The creation of the 1LR-GUE V10 was led by Lexus' chief engine designer, Okamoto Takamitsu. The engine starts life at Toyota's Myochi plant, where the engine block is made from molten aluminum. The block is then sent to Toyota's Honsha factory, the same facility that used to house Toyota's F1 engine operations. Here, the block gets milled, drilled, and polished, emerging as a precise engine block. In a sealed room, Takumis hone every sharp edge using precision polishing tools. After this, a highly skilled Takumi pre-assembles the finished engine blocks to check for precise fitment. Disassembled, they travel as a unit to Yamaha's Iwata city plant. It is at this plant that four highly skilled Yamaha Takumis fully assemble the V10. This process takes 2.5 days for one engine. Before the engine gets installed in an LFA, it undergoes a half day of exhaustive testing. Source: mega factories episode by National Geographic

@ there is nothing all bad about the LFA and you’re incorrect because because the GTR is actually not superior the LFA did beat the Nissan GTR at one point ( NUR edition had a faster lap time on the NUR ring ) also if the GTR was actually superior, it would be worth more than the LFA, which will never be. All three true icons. If I was forced to choose , it'd be the Lexus ; not the fastest being n/a , but for that honey coated V10 sound , especially on start-up......PS: Over a mill for the Lexus with 550 brake , nah !!!
No doubt in my mind, the LFA would be my choice by a huge stretch. Second the GT-R Nismo and sorry, I like Subarus but as said, it'll come in third on my list. The LFA is just the best looking car as well.
Those are three absolutely great cars. I started getting really interested in cars in the 90s when I started to earn enough money to be able to buy a car. I couldn't afford a 22B but I could afford an Impreza Turbo, which is what I bought. I went on to buy a blob eye STI after that. I've had quicker cars since (e.g. M5 and my current car, an M4) but I had the most fun in my Imprezas. Modern cars are way too fast to be able to drive near the limit on a public road. That's one of the main reason why the Impreza was so much fun. It could move and was up for anything but I didn't have to risk a prison sentence to have fun in it. Sadly, I've never driven a GT-R (I still think of them as Skylines) but the R35 is an amazing car. My boss used to have one but he didn't drive it to its potential so it was just a waste. The LFA isn't a performance car like the other two but it's beautiful and sounds absolutely incredible.
Enjoyed reading the article and this video is the icing on the cake. Have only been lucky enough to the drive the GTR and the guys words really captured how I felt about the car. Well done more please
Thank you for creating this film, EVO. I and other viewers alike are able to vicariously experience these three, 'Halo Cars,' thanks to your passion for driving, capturing, and sharing them. Cheers.
If we are talking about a legendary car, a trend setter, a standard for which many car manufacturers tried to duplicate...then the Honda NSX needs to be somewhere on this list....without a doubt the NSX was a true legend, developed by a legendary driver Mr. Senna...Give this car its respect 🙏
I've seen a special feature of these 3 cars from Japan. As a Japanese car guy, I am proud that these three cars, which can be said to be the most treasure, have given tremendous stimulation to the world♪
LFA to me because: FR layout CF chassis V10 engine Toyota budget to orchestrate the fine details to intentionally lose money in the process 22B is a hotted up Impreza GTR has pedigree with Turbo/AWD to handle, but turbo is an easy way to make power and AWD is a crutch
LFA is next level, top tier perfection. 22b, prior generations of nissan gtr, mitsubishi evo, toyota supra, are all equally fantastic. However, the lfa is above everything else because yamaha essentially designed a high revving motorcycle engine for a car.
22B all day long. Much like the 65/66 Shelby G.T. 350 it's not quick nor fast nor brakes nor handles better than the more modern cars but I don't care. A Hakosuka GT-R could be included in this group of three cars. If it was it would be my choice for dream car. And of course while I'm dreaming the Toyota 2000GT!
I know you have the top gear fans who will say the lfa is the best and the fast and furious fangirls will say the gtr but for me growing up in the uk the 22b was so Fkin sick!!
The LFA may not be the fastest or best handling super car (even of its time). But that car has so much character, and that sounds, and its sleek looks. I love it. But the 22B would be the one I would love to drive regularly.
Excellent video. So many people must be kicking themselves for not buying an LFA when they were 'cheap.' Major props to Mr Toyota for signing it off though😎
There is a reason I still have my 4 door Impreza turbo after 25 years. I’d rather spent money to keep this on the road then buying a new and more digital car. Oldschool forever !
I lived in Tokyo between 2000 and 2010. During that time i owned several awesome '90's JDM legends including a GCF WRX, Evo VI and an STi RA (which I still own). When i sold my Evo, i test drove a 22B and then the RA, both were aweome but the 22B even then was 3 times the price of the RA and I couldnt justify the cost given performance wise they were so close. To say I regret that decision now would be somewhat of an understatement.
I was lucky enough to do a super car track day with multiple cars at Donnington. Driving the Aston Martin Vantage and a Ferrari F430 wasn't much different to driving my own car fast, was in a 330D M Sport BMW with 413lb/ft torque at the time. Held the steering wheel in those cars the same as mine. But when I started to drive the GT-R, I realised it was not a car you can drive normally, I had to grip that wheel hard as it sucked up the horizon under acceleration! It bludgeoned it's way through corners and as James said in the video, I didn't get it either until that day. You had to drive it by the scruff of it's neck. Afterwards I thought to myself that if I ever wanted a brutally capable point to point car, to get me somewhere in a hurry no matter the conditions, I'd get a GT-R.
I could be misremembering but back in the day a lot of reviewers rated the 22B as a bit of a miss compared to say RB5. Perhaps modern rubber and exposure to 20 years of less engaging stuff in the meantime has changed that. Bloody awesome either way.
I thoroughly enjoyed 10 years of consecutive motoring owning three different Impreza Turbo variants (I was on the list to get a 22B Type UK but wasn't one of the lucky 15 to be drawn from that list) and have owned and savoured an R35 since 2009, she's getting on a bit now... The closest I got to an LFA was having a good look around a black one in the car park of Litchfield motors who had just imported one for one of their top clients who ran an F1 team at the time...
What a trio for comparison!! Throw in the NSX-R and this would be my dream Japanese garage

So unfortunately, your opinion isn’t a good one.
Great vid Evo. I'd love to see a 90s JDM special. This was the golden era. Impreza, Evo, 200sx, Supra, NSX, GTR, Rx7.... Come on, please do this. I'd even lend you my S14a stage 1a 200sx... 270 bhp, 1265kg, rwd with handling upgrades by Nismo.. Very similar stats to the 22b... Except rwd. massive smiles per mile too 😁😁😁
Evo still bringing us the best cars reviews and shots after all these years. Thank You!!
I have a built sti swapped 99 Impreza the amount of fun I have in that car blows majority of other cars away. Building this car has taught me how important lightweight is to have fun in any car. All modern cars are absolute tanks these days.
Incredible to have all three cars together, great video as always, enjoyed every minute.
Evo 6.5 TME would be my pick, honourable mention Integra Type R.
22b bigger history but evo bigger smile when driven
@@mikuelmellieha7943 How does the 22B have bigger history? TME Evo 6 and 22B were released both to celebrate Subaru and Mitsubishi's Rally championships. Just curious
@MahadShahzad08 based on motorsport media ....the evo drives better but prices start at $40,000 for a 6.5 ....however the 22b is just a two door sti but is valued at $100,000
@@mikuelmellieha7943 Makes no sense but market is market
@@mikuelmellieha7943 mate, I don’t know where you can buy a 22B for 100 K. Please send me the ads! I’ll buy them all …..
LFA. for me. I owned 2 Scoobys, and was lucky enough to drive a 22B and an RB5. For me, the 4 door chassis in RB5 made it better than 22B.
@@richardashman4822 the rb5 was such a stealth motor 😇
LFA is in my dream garage, alongside an R34 GTR but I certainly wouldn't say no to an R35.
Brilliant video and commentary for these brilliant cars. Loved the last scene.
22B is too good to be true, such a masterpiece
Well done EVO, this is more like it!! So much better than your ECOTY films of recent times...
LFA is still my N1 car ever. Such an understated achievement. Perfect.
See they can't make electric cars that capture your soul like these.
We need the LFA back again
Excellent. More please.
Lovely video. I have been in a LFA and it is incredible. Would like to have seen a NSX-R in this line up. Also an icon.
Incredible video, evo at its best
All three true icons. If I was forced to choose , it'd be the Lexus ; not the fastest being n/a , but for that honey coated V10 sound , especially on start-up......PS: Over a mill for the Lexus with 550 brake , nah !!!
There are people paying over 1m for a R34 GTR Nur. The LFA is a much better driving car than a R34. Definitely worth the 1m if you can afford it.
Lexus will just keep appreciating
I loved looking down the bonnet at my Impreza scoop, and the sound and the huge rear wing 😍
I love that this video is just these guys swooning over these legends.
Long form video for the win!
As a Japanese car guy, I am proud that these three cars, which can be said to be the most treasure, have given tremendous stimulation to the world♪
LFA to me because:
FR layout
CF chassis
V10 engine
Toyota budget to orchestrate the fine details to intentionally lose money in the process
22B is a hotted up Impreza
GTR has pedigree with Turbo/AWD to handle, but turbo is an easy way to make power and AWD is a crutch
Why are comments turned off the newest video?
LFA is next level, top tier perfection. 22b, prior generations of nissan gtr, mitsubishi evo, toyota supra, are all equally fantastic. However, the lfa is above everything else because yamaha essentially designed a high revving motorcycle engine for a car.
amazing shots and beautiful cars
22B all day long. Much like the 65/66 Shelby G.T. 350 it's not quick nor fast nor brakes nor handles better than the more modern cars but I don't care. A Hakosuka GT-R could be included in this group of three cars. If it was it would be my choice for dream car. And of course while I'm dreaming the Toyota 2000GT!
I know you have the top gear fans who will say the lfa is the best and the fast and furious fangirls will say the gtr but for me growing up in the uk the 22b was so Fkin sick!!
Glorious JDM ❤❤❤❤❤
Such a pity they don’t make em like this anymore 😢😢😢
The LFA may not be the fastest or best handling super car (even of its time). But that car has so much character, and that sounds, and its sleek looks. I love it. But the 22B would be the one I would love to drive regularly.
Perfect channel for cars lovers like me 😊
Keep it up EVO team ...
Waiting to see more videos
Great video
Really like the younger commentator, can feel his appreciation for the cars.
JDM Greats in one shoot-out! Perhaps the 90s Supra, Fairlady 300 ZX could squeeze in there too?
Excellent video. So many people must be kicking themselves for not buying an LFA when they were 'cheap.' Major props to Mr Toyota for signing it off though😎
Great vid, more YT content pls, compliments the mag really well. Enjoying podcast too!
I enjoyed watching the video, three of the best Japanese Performance Cars 😊
Excellent selection. All on my dream garage list.
Good stuff, keep the videos coming!
There is a reason I still have my 4 door Impreza turbo after 25 years. I’d rather spent money to keep this on the road then buying a new and more digital car. Oldschool forever !
Those cars would never be repeated
why are the comments disabled on the alpine video?
22B is my favorite but I'm a little bias because I am a huge subaru guy.
Special documentary ❤ Would love to see best of other countries, in the next few years…
I could be misremembering but back in the day a lot of reviewers rated the 22B as a bit of a miss compared to say RB5. Perhaps modern rubber and exposure to 20 years of less engaging stuff in the meantime has changed that. Bloody awesome either way.
Great video!
Lets see if Lexus release the replacement of LFA....but i dont think it will have masterpiece/sound lika LFA
The closest I got to an LFA was having a good look around a black one in the car park of Litchfield motors who had just imported one for one of their top clients who ran an F1 team at the time...
putting front plate on a LFA should be a crime
