I disagree... games were so sloppy I couldn't believe this was professional Starcraft. Action played really bad and didn't know how to close games that had been already won.
@@theunderback I need to kind of agree. Ending of game 2 was sloppy in a sense that Action dismantled Best and then threw away his lead entirely because he got cocky. Ending of match 3 was weird too. He microed guardians with minimal effort and just threw random stuff at the base without any rhyme or reason. Nevertheless I really enjoyed all of these matches.
An absolutely INSANE series of Starcraft: Brood War ! ! ! Games 2 and 3 are a *must watch* for sure. This game is not easy.. but the tenacity to survive and the spell usage.. Wow, GGs !

This series is a narrative arc about (1) the Protoss completely overrun on Aiur, (2) retreating and holding Shakuras with the help of the Dark templar, (3) returning to to establish that foothold on Aiur from the Legacy of the Void cinematic, and (4) fighting alongside the Dark Templar to retake Aiur.
@@burst33 I don't understand. Game 2 I'm referring to how the dark archon (a creation of the dark templar in the lore) was instrumental in his defense. Game 3 I'm referring to how he didn't make extensive use of dark templar or dark archons but used mostly high templar and archons just like in the LotV cinematic. It's also similar to the LotV cinematic because he ended up defending one last bastion like when that pylon warped in during the cinematic, which allowed the Protoss to achieve their win condition.

Shakuras was added for flavor because that's what happened in the original lore and I probably should have dropped it. But I think we can all agree that this is the fault of Korean mapmakers that didn't predict this series when they made HBR in 2009.
I am sure there are some OSL and ASL games that were just as epic... from the golden age of Kespa. However, even though I am fan of SC since 2006 I cannot remember anymore a game series that rilavls that one. Absolutely insane...

The late part of game 3 was insane with all the drops, guardians, reavers and incredible psi storms. Definitely one of the most entertaining sequences in ASL in recent memory.
This BO5 were best games in the tournament so far! Super impressive and great commentary from Tastosis, especially in the last game, they had me cracking up.
Best played really well but every game Action lost he threw. You could just see his mental was in the toilet 1/3rd of the way through game 3 when hes killing his own lings trying to kill eggs. He wasnt supply blocked. he was 32/37 and he killed two of his own lings on the eggs

@@ethansaltmere Easy to say from the comfort of your armchair, but making these decisions under extreme pressure and time constraints isn't easy, especially when you have very little practice in these situations because like 1 in 200-300 games might get to that point. I'm not sure I've ever seen a queen against protoss in an ASL game, these late game scenarios just don't really happen in tournaments. Not surprising that he didn't have all the answers, just like how Best didn't make a scout despite that being the obvious counter to guardians.

Queen has been used many times in Protoss games - indeed the famous asl winner ‘Queen’ literally got his name by using queens to brooding templars vs bisu back in the pro days. It’s incredibly powerful and still regularly used but here was completely forgotten in a huge blunder

SPOILERS: wow what a series. i actually thought Action played better than Best and got himself in many winning positions. game 2 Action had an enormous advantage. he was up like 30 supply around the 15 minute mark after Best lost ~40 probes to 2 lurkers. game 3 Action also was clearly in the lead though not quite as much as game 2. there's an interesting behavior that I've noticed with pros is that when they get a big enough advantage like in game 2, the move always seems to be to aggressively just end the game and the vast majority of the time they do so successfully. after the game 2 devastating drop, you never see a pro just take a 4th and take a slower approach in an unlosable position. maybe there's some pride and even peer pressure. had Action just taken a 4th he would have crushed Best with certainty, but im sure all the other pros would have wondered why he didn't just end the game. this tendency of pros to go hyper aggressive when massively ahead gave Best the chance to win through solid defense and some huge maelstroms. game 3 i think Action's impatience and micro cost him at the end. after he killed Best's main he was up like 70-80 supply with a solid bank. he was running out of resources but he was too inefficient with his gas units attacking 6' o clock. had he microed his guardians a little better or slowed down and gone for a more long term plan of not wasting so many units, perhaps with the use of queens, i think Action would have won. while that kind of ZvP scenario isn't very common, it's a situation that every zerg and protoss player have experienced and these pros have played it out many times...that situation where protoss is holding the last base with a million templar/reavers/cannons. Best didn't have any sairs and no money, if Action would have microed his guardians very carefully, one at a time, then Best would run out of storms and lose. great match though, i'm shocked Best is moving on and I don't think the match score of 3-1 really tells the story of how close the games were.
Mutas still pop out whenever Tasteless mentions them, lol. That maelstrom on lurker eggs was actually pretty neat, because Zerg cannot force them to cancel and run away from the storm.
Great serie! Not only Best defense was amazing but Action's relentless agression made those game incredible to watch !!! I'm a bit sad to see action leave the tournament, it could have been the final. A real battle of two starcraft heroes here

Dark Archon is such an underused unit. Aside from maelstrom, feedback is a godsent for defilers - given how crucial science vessels and irradiate are for defiler defense, feedback with its 50 energy cost is even better.

It's pretty epic, but i also recommend ASL S5 3rd Place Match game 5 between Mini and Hero. Debatable which ones is more epic.

1:57:45 there are no hero Dark Archon in the map editor :) same thing applies for the Valkyrie, and probably a few more units!

Dark Archon is such an underused unit. Aside from maelstrom, feedback is a godsent for defilers - given how crucial science vessels and irradiate are for defiler defense, feedback with its 50 energy cost is even better.
