I love the tactical background that both of you give to us while casting. I played starcraft 1 casually but I would miss so much information and possible consequences without your intel on tactics and game situation. Thanks to both of you!
I think this is something they have to do in order to prevent Tasteless from lagging out and desync with the video. That`s why they try different resolutions.
Tastosis is the best thing that ever happened to the human race, I love watching anything they cast, and i love the content they put out on their individual channels. You get everything from the history and evolution of the game and esports in general, to the highest level competition from players all around the world, and every cool tournament in between. These guys make it exciting to be a fan of Starcraft . Thank you so much for everything that you guys do!
Been watching you for a few months now. You've got me back into Starcraft 2 and ....now Starcraft 1....wild. I feel this is what needed to happen a long time ago.
Godlike play from Sharp in this set. I feel like he’s been somewhat underrated by both Tastosis and the other ASL pros this season. He looked deadly already in the Wildcards. He’s a real dark horse for the title, although I feel Mini, Soulkey and Sn0w are probably all too strong.
Good lord. Game 3 was sooo good. That was THE best TvP so far this season, and with 4 protoss being this deep into this terran-heavy tournament, it says a lot.
This match actually shows very clearly why "prep" tournaments like ASL\GSL are superior to the "weekend" tournaments - Sharp was clearly well prepared specifically for this opponent, on those maps. We wouldn't have had such beautiful games if these were played late on a second day, on a random map vs a random opponent!
but ramshackle messy games are fun too? This doesn't show that prep tournaments are superior, it shows that they are great for a certain kind of enjoyment.
@@Strauss-Hmm, ok, "weekend" games can be fun to watch, too - but the point was that preparation and focus on few games allows to show more skill and variety. When you're not prepared to specific opponents/map, and have to play a lot of maps, you bound to choose more "all-around" builds, try to be ready for anything and fatigue will be a major factor. So, yes, both can be enjoyed, but "prep" tournaments are superior in showing more skillful and complex (not necessarily messy!) games.
Holy shit this was an unbelievably amazing performace by the winner!!! Crispy clean play, amazing strategies, mindgames, maneuvering, just a total treat to watch!
I had NO IDEA that's what those numbers meant below the player names. I thought it was some kind of seeding thing. So, thanks to whoever was stalking Tasteless at 1:05:20 for letting us all know.
So happy for Sharp! He outplayed best, and the series could've been 3-0. Amazing openers, decision making, and macro. Perfect way to counter Best's one-dimensional style. Awesome that he learnt from his practice with Snow, encouraging him to broaden his style! Fantastic, and absolutely gracious in victory. What a great time to be a Sharp fan!
Re: the command center placement in game 2, where Tasteless was talking about seeming so obvious. The best definition of the word genius I ever heard was something along the lines of: "something someone does for the first time, but when it's done or observed, it just feels so obvious."
I quite like the afreecatv overlay. It has almost all the relevant data for the game but still takes up very little space. The sponsor and tournament name are in the top left, mostly for advertising purposes (but they are hidden for much of the game), then the round, match, set, and map are below that, then the full names, handles, and match scores of both players, then their races, spawn positions, and colors next to the game time. The only thing missing is the time and place, which should be in the description imo (time of day, time zone, date, and city, and ideally also the building where it was played).
25:30 3 vultures in stasis, 5 tanks leftover. Replay at 32:15 2 vultures in stasis, 2 tanks leftover. I know both live games and replays can desync, but I don't recall it happening on such a small scale. I assume the replay was incorrect in this case, but it makes me wonder how often these smaller not-so-noticeable desyncs happen in games cast from replays.
Spoilers below: Damn Sharp is looking /solid/. The fwd bunker into CC sneak on Blitz Y is really interesting, I guess that's meta now lol. Very weird throw after, ig he felt overconfident after all the control he had and just a-moved everything without caring? Citadel was cool too, fun to see such a greedy macro game. Feels like that greed bled over into Apocalypse where instead of going for the 5fact timing he expanded
I used to always think Best was overrated. I think he has improved a lot. But he lacks something. He’s a macro player but that’s pretty much it. Like he is missing that little extra something to make it out of the ro8. He’s not a player like Bisu or Snow who are always playing mind games and forcing the other player to play their game and double guess their strategy. As they said he’s programmed to just attack with a bunch of units to try to break a very strong position. He’s good at that but a lot of times he doesn’t have the intel and gets recked. Still pretty exciting match. Sharp is looking strong as hell.
Here’s my list from who I want most to win to least: 1: Sn0w (long overdue) 2: Soulkey (start a streak) 3: Bisu 4: Hero 5: Mini 6: Sharp 7: Best 8: Rush

I sometimes wonder about the range of (the detection of) a scan: cloaked units CAN escape the area that was scanned, right?? Because i THINK in WC3 it was different in the way that if a cloaked unit is detected (maybe just with dust?), it would stay detected for a few seconds, no matter if it ran away.(right?)
Mini seems like the only toss capable of winning championships. Best, Bisu, and snow seem have these uncanny psychological barriers of self-sabotage. Actually the last ASL, mini was acting like he already won before the finals even started. He was way to overconfident and fucked himself. He also put light in his group as his veto in the season after he won asl and got eliminated by him. So mini can self-sabotage as well.
I would say Sharp dominated Best in this series, only game he lost he made a pretty big blunder moving his army to far out in the open and leaving it completely clumped up. Best put up a good fight but Sharp just looked better in every game.
What a change including some Goliaths makes to the engagements since all of the obs get rekt as the army moves forward. Terran is really evolving this season despite most of the Terrans being eliminated.
It is so interesting to see the current meta coming from another era of BW! I was not following Starcraft from about 2007 to last year, this is actually the first ASL I watch, and I used to play a lot, and watch a lot of pro games back in the day - and it's crazy how it all changed! E.g. this same function - clearing obs during push - was done almost exclusively by building tons of turrets. My fav player was NaDa - he would bring a ton of SCVs with his army (no goliaths, just tanks + vultures), and build a lot of turrets everywhere. It is still done now, but to a much lesser extent as Protoss players are better these days, more mobile and engage constantly. Old push felt more like a slow lava flow, creeping towards the center of the map and to the P base, while today's push is like an avalanche, fast and decisive.
It would be nice if you didn't give away who wins with the "thumbnails". I haven't seen group D yet and in the 1st RO8 it says "sharp vs"... Can you please write something like, RO 8 Match 1,2,3... Otherwise good comment :)
replay tech is so sh*t it's not even funny. There were limitations due to which they were created that way, but with Remastered Blizzard could have made a proper replay feature - it's not hard with current hardware to write actions and positions of each unit separately, not recreate it in-engine every time. Here's hope that Blizzard will do another patch and actually fix some things for BW!
@Tastosis @Artosis @Tasteless Is there anyway you can can add an hour of blank video time onto these R0 8/4 matches? Without this, the outcome of the match gets spoiled for everyone on youtube if we have to pause, because if we can see that there is only 30 min is left in the video, and 1 player is up 2 - 1, we KNOW that the match is going to end 3-1, with no chance for 5th round game.
It messes with ad revenue so its never gonna happen. UA-cam just sees an hour of time not being watched by any viewers and marks it against you, it doesn't know it is just to save from spoilers.
***Spoiler*** I really hate how Best plays PvT, but I love how he plays PvZ. Strange. Also, immaculate play from Sharp, he could definitely make the finals (where he'll get stomped by Soulkey)
Because his PvT is 1 dimension. I want sharp vs snow finals. Soulkey doesn't deserve to be in finals unless he beats hero to get there, his ZvZ is 20%, that's not deserving of championships - that's luck.
The reason for the off-center bunker could be that in that situation the arc made of dragoons has to wrap towards the terran entrance, which exposes one of the goons for easier tank shots. If the bunker is centre, the dragoon arc will be nicely flat, and no dragoon is strongly at risk.
25:30 vs 32:15 The replay actually desynced. You can tell because there's 1 less frozen vulture in the replay than real game. If this happens a lot, might explain why the moments shown in the recap tend to be weirder game moments. Anything after desync is technically invalid because it's not exact duplication, reason why you see zealot attack a turret in the replay, never actually happened.
I'm so bummed by this series. Best looked so convincing against Light and Rush, but once again he kind of flubbed it. His 3 base shove in game 1 just reeked of overconfidence and from that point on he just looked tilted. That being said Sharp looked so damn.... sharp. @@EB-bl6cc 100% agree. That`s exactly why i`m kind of mad at him. When you see someone with potential and he just refuses to use it, it just sucks
I might have a new favorite player finally!
Bisu vs Snow why??????
Yeah, it's a shame one of them has to lose in Ro8. On the other hand, Protoss is over-represented in Ro8, so this may help even things out a bit.
Wow I can't believe Flash won
Same can’t believe it.
This looked like flash because it wasn't mini, bisu or snow. It was the 1D toss-ape.
