    Thank you so much for this video! I have found it extremely helpful, 6 days post injury -ortho has deemed a grade 2 MCL sprain. Will have MRI to confirm nothing more serious, as bearing weight is still difficult…that’s another week away!!! I still have some mild swelling - but completed the Phase 0 exercises - wearing my brace. Will be returning!

    I tore my bilateral ACL and mcl two months ago in a ski accident. My left side is worse than the right side. I am choosing not to do a CL repair surgery. Do you think I can have a normal active life without both torn ACL.? I am a very active 60 year old. I enjoy bike riding lots of hiking and much more.. Great video by the way thank you.

    Hello Dr, myself I have MCL grade 2 injury, ACL partial loss at mid, and PCL buckling, (wel that's MRI report says). So should I be adding up ACL and PCL strengthening exercises as well

      Sorry to hear about your injury. Usually Acl and pcl injuries are diagnosed predominantly on clinical exam to see if these two ligaments are functional or not. Although MRI helps us, still functional assessment is important. If you can I would recommend seeing a sports medicine doctor to get their opinion about your knee injury to find out what’s going on.

      Thank you soo much Dr. for taking time to reply for my msg, I am going to a sports medicine specialised physiotherapist. In the mid of my journey from injury to recovery I was feeling a bit low, and doubtfull about my come back, hence was checking few videos, Lucy I found yours. I more than happy to hear that I should consider the functioning ability assessed by the physiotherapist even though MRI report says so. Wow great seriously great thank you again. Good days bye

    Hello Doc. While jumping I had a innerward bend in my knee. From the pain and symptoms it seems it's MCL sprain grade 1. It's been a week, I can walk, I limp sometimes in between and have a problem in straightening my leg or bending at it's full. I'm having my Army interview next week. What am I supposed to do? I need to perform jumps and runs there.

      I am concerned you could have a acl injury or could have subluxation of knee cap. I recommend seeing a physician for a thorough evaluation

      I've been trying your exercises and it's really getting me to work. Also the medications and home remedies are working. From yesterday night I can straighten my knee without any pain. It's now matter of squatting.

    Hello I strained my MCL 6 days ago but I don’t know how. I believe it’s a grade 1 since I am able to bear weight on the leg and can do slow full ROM squats with balance assistance. Initially, I felt a pulling sensation when I would bend my knee but it went away around the 5th day. Should I start at phase 1 and continue until the end of phase 2?

    • @srikanthnithyanandammd
      @srikanthnithyanandammd  12 днів тому

      Given the absence of a clear mechanism for the injury and the symptoms you're describing, it might be something other than a straightforward MCL strain - sometimes conditions like pes anserine bursitis can present similarly with the symptoms you've mentioned. It would be wise to start with phase 1 of your rehabilitation to safely gauge how your body responds. However, it's also very important to get a professional evaluation to ensure that you've correctly identified the issue and that everything is indeed okay. A doctor or a physical therapist can provide you with a precise diagnosis and guide you on the best course of action for your specific situation.

      @ thank you for the reply. I tried phase 1 exercises yesterday and once I reached the 2nd exercise, around the 14th rep my knee began feeling off. The sensation of a pull in the inner part of my left knee returned. When I hyperextend (when standing) it doesn’t feel normal.

    Hello sir ,
    I had an accident 5 weeks back and got my MCL injured ( Grade 2 on MRI ) and complete MPFL tear but on clinical examination kneecap was not dislocated according to my orthopedic surgeon so surgery was not recommended for complete tear of MPFL . From last 5 weeks I’ve been using hinged knee brace continuously but had no exercise. I was on rest and now I can’t fully extend or flex my knee which is making it difficult for me to walk . Please make it clear for me from which exercises do I’ve to start and for how many days should I continue it ? Should I wear my knee brace during exercises or not ? And until when should I leave wearing a knee brace ?

    • @srikanthnithyanandammd
      @srikanthnithyanandammd  Місяць тому +1

      Most of the time, the course of treatment depends on the clinical examination. If you've experienced a patellar dislocation, there's a chance you might also have a slight MCL sprain. However, the primary focus should be on healing the patellar dislocation. In cases involving an MPFL injury, I typically advise two weeks of immobilization to allow the ligament to heal properly. After this period, it's beneficial to begin slowly increasing the knee's range of motion. If it's been five weeks and you're still unable to completely extend or flex your knee, I highly recommend consulting a therapist. This situation calls for specialized, one-on-one rehabilitation to prevent the development of knee stiffness, which could lead to long-term issues. I hope this advice is beneficial.

    Is it wise to use? BFR bands. I just purchased Kaatsu brand. And I have been using it for the past three weeks now. I am not sure if I’m doing the right thing. My doctor is not very good at answering these questions. I would appreciate your input on.BFR Trainings for ACL/MCL injuries. Unfortunately I thought both my MCL and ACL in both knees.

    Hi Dr. , thank you so much for video. It is extremely helpful. I got knees sprained one month ago, I didn’t pay attention at all, just did normal activities. Two weeks ago, it gotten worse, and I felt my knee was locked and soft when I was walking. Yesterday the MRI reported I had grade 1-2 MCL injury, also small joint effusion. Do you think I should do exercises start from phase 0 or 1? Now I can extend my knee, but can’t bring back, only half way. In addition, should I use ice or heat to reduce my swollen knee. ? At this moment, I can’t get physiotherapy doctor right away . Thank you very much

    • @srikanthnithyanandammd
      @srikanthnithyanandammd  8 місяців тому +1

      Please start with phase 0. Mcl is extra articulate and should not cause effusion. I suspect that there might be something else that would be causing swelling. How old are you? How is the cartilage on the mri

    • @kevinzhu6395
      @kevinzhu6395 8 місяців тому

      Thank you so much for replying. In MRI, Cartilage is normal , only small fluid collection deep to the pes anserine tendons. I am 53 years old.

    • @srikanthnithyanandammd
      @srikanthnithyanandammd  8 місяців тому +1

      @@kevinzhu6395 most likely this is pes anserine bursitis. Sometime you see the fluids around the MCL in MRI but based on clinical context, chances you are having pes anserine bursitis. I would recommend icing, relative rest, start with phase 0 and slowly progress. Pes anserine tendon also share some of the MCL function and therefore MCL rehab is sufficient. keep me posted on the progress.

      if there is swelling inside the knee, then I would be worried about cartilage and meniscus in your knee. your doctor might recommend any MRI to evaluate this further.

    Hello!
    I've injured my MCL about a month ago, but I don't really know to which extent as there are long wait times for MRIs in my area right now.
    I am able to walk without taking large steps, keeping my knee locked and going slowly, but anything else than that and it wobbles a lot. I've not had proper physiotherapy at this point either.
    Should I start from day 0 or do you recommend I go a bit more into the second section?
    I can straighten my knee completely and bring it back, but I do still have pain on the medial side often...

      Unfortunately, an MRI alone is not sufficient to determine the appropriate treatment. It is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional who can provide an accurate diagnosis and recommend a suitable treatment plan.
