Oils are great! The key difference with acyclic washes is that as long as you have varnished first, you can remove the oils, but it's not an option with acrylic
So many high end painters use oils, marco frisoni, juan sanz(elminiturista), Just to mention two. And probely best of all Kirill Kanaev uses oils mostly
I can’t tell you how much the tip about ditching the included wet pallet paper helped me, I only wish I had heard in 2 years ago from you instead on stumbling on it by accident. Keep up the great show guys!
You’ve chatted about using the fluorescent paints for lenses and flames etc. I recently learnt if you add say a small amount of fluo red to say a red contrast paint it greatly increases the paint intensity. Really helps with flatter GW paints.
Amazing podcast as always! Do you have any tutorials covering the 50/50 mix of your shade and highlight and then the application of glazing that you covered around 40/44mins in?
Generally, I find Oils are great for pin washing a model (the low surface tension and capillary action is *chefskiss* - never really wanted to do the whole "Soak the entire model and then clean 90% up" thing

That base rim take is wild. 99% of the time the rim should be painted black, painting it a solid color only detracts from the mini. The nicer the mini is painted the worse a painted base rim looks..that said love the show! Keep it up boys
A little late to the party but GW celebrate Sanguinala at Christmas, they have previously done articles detailing the traditions which are similar to pagan midwinter solstice and done little cut out Sanguinius decorations for your tree.
When saying "replace your wet pallet paper with baking paper" it's probably worth stating that there are various types of baking paper, a notable amount of readily available baking papers are "grease proof" which is not ideal as it doesn't let moisture through.
Dismember December. Paint either Khorne or just only melee units in general. Also Khorne are red like Santa and Angron dies and is reborn days later like jeebus
Agreed that Tamiya paints are awesome! But biggest gripe is always trying to get ahold of the thinner that’s why I use IPA 91% and it works the same way!!
Hi Guys, Great show as always, please keep these coming ❤❤❤ I have a small video request... When your talking about a pictured miniature can you leave it on screen whilst you talk about it? I'm finding that I need to rewind and pause it on the image to put the conversation to context
Jain-uary for the Eldar Fell-bruary for the Fellowship of the Ring, Soulblight Gravelords (fell bats), or Space Wolves (Bjorn the Fell Handed) M-archmage, Marcheotech, March-o Flagellants April-thecary, Apr-ocalypse, Chapter April-ved June-ith for the sisters, June-gle Fighters for the Catachan, June-crawler? Jul-dicators for the Stormcast or Jul-ggernaut for Khorne, July-maris, July-on Aug-ggradon for the Seraphon, Aug-ron for the World Eaters, Solar Aug-xilia, Aug-ustus Custodes (can work for any variation of “Adeptus”) Seraphim Sep-tember, September-zerkers (can use for any month ending in “ber”), but I like the T’au Sept-ember the most. Orktober is already done. So have your Orks recreate the battle of Oct-tarius. Something about an Octo-pus for the Idoneth. Sisters Nov-itiates, Amalia Nov-ember, No Nuln November (Nuln Oil) Deceiv-ber (Necrons, Skaven), Deff-ember (Orks again), (say these with a soft c): Dec Guard, Dec-watch, Dec-rattle, Dec Korps, Dec-wing, Dec-marks
I'm struggling a bit with the 50% shadow/50% highlight concept - if I'm painting ivory/bone my highlight would be white and my shadows would be brown - do I just skip using the midtone ivory color all together? For instance, I'd mix Zandri Dust 50% with Screaming Skull 50% and not use Ushabti Bone as my mid?
Can you leave a link to the baking paper Joe gets on Amazon? I struggle with baking paper that has too much wax on it. Haven't been able to find the right one.
Only greaseproof baking papers have wax, said wax stops moisture penetrating the paper (not good for wet pallets), non greaseproof papers have a layer of silicates.
Would the half way base coat still be as applicable to painting black armour? Watched cult of paint’s airbrush vid on the Harder and Steele channel and he then goes back over w the shadows
a base rim is not a frame. it is the link to your home terrain. you are making a game peice. if you're just doing an art peice, i guess. the correct base rim colour is only black if you are a deeply boring person. If you must have a rule, you should be using the base colour of your basing. this scervices the same aim as the black rim, without sepertating your model from the tabletop that matches it. you have made your basing match your tabletop. After all, you're not a psychopath... are you? :^)
I couldnt understand the point of the calgar blue highlight with ultramarines, that previous layer always seems to be covered up by the thrid highlight layer. i had a suspicion that it was acting more as a base layer, and youve just confirmed that, and it finally makes sense to me. I do regret trying to paint in the eavy metal style, the guy in the shop warned me, im 6 months into the hobbie and im still working on my 2nd space marine, its looking phemonal, but its required so of my time that it almost cost me my relationship.
Thank u 4 showing my gift I had a great time up Stockport and looking forward to coming up again for another class keep up the gd work guys
Thank you so much! Hopefully see you on another class in the new year!

Oil pin-wash and rattle can Winsor Newton matte varnish for the win!
Wish there was more episodes ! Doesnt even need a topic
Black base rims for presentation... brown for tabletop gaming to blend into my home table mat :D
Great show, really look forward to this show now when it drops. Makes me want to push more to improve.
Base rims should be any color as long as the whole army matches

im really enjoying these podcasts guys! please keep it up
My suggestion for the calendar is "Febroodary" for Genestealer Cults.
Long live the Broodlord!
Loving Joe's hat!! Question for another week maybe? Music/Podcast/Netflix/Audiobook/Silence! Which is best while painting?

Would you guys ever be up to do a 24h paint challange? Would love to see you guys blast trough a new box!
Me: damn wish I could paint as good as that mini on the left in the thumbnail

Noctolith November would be perfect!
Adeptus Sororaugust? I'm a bit late to the party but not to late for August.
Another great hobby podcast the Britts are taking over !

For people who love the greenskins you could do Orkust and Orktober

Is there a particular brand of baking paper to get?
Tell James you can get empty Xmas tree baubles that you can put whatever you want in them
