Absolutely love the slow increase of Blood Angels being added to background over the course of each episode 😂
By episode 40 we should have James in a full Dante kit. Keep going lads 👏🩸

super big idea suggestion,, if you happen to using protein shakes or supplements they have nice big scoops, shove some double sided tape on it and it makes a great model holder. and you also get a little handle that you can brace your hand against.. its also really useful for turning around or holding up to the light. maybe cos I work in a gym and we have lots of scoops left over, I will say its been crazy useful and cheap. I found the shot glasses I found in Canada were too thin and broke too easily.. Hope this helps :)

Great episode as always. Just wanted to say that i really felt the lighting mistake. First two year i painted i had one of those table lamps that was in height of my face so i always used to lean forward to see my model under the light, after about 1 year i started to get these massive strain in the back of my head/where the neck connects to the head and this could last up to 2-4 days. Bought a light with a flexible arm so it could shine from above where i paint i have never had this issue again.

Never been that big on painting, it’s been more of a means to an end but listening to this podcast has motivated me to try and enjoy each stage more and improve my painting. I bought the new terminators and will follow your advice on painting them individually. I also bought a pack of refreshers to make up my own mind.

Mistake 1 describes me perfectly. I hunch over anyway but the low lamp is 💯 the culprit.
Also really appreciate the spray paint tips. Currently a quarter of the way through priming a horde army and oversprayed because of a gap in coverage of one small area. Look forward to applying Joe's advice going forward.

  • @cabe_bedlam

Something not mentioned in the airbrush section is just start using it to do priming and basecoats. They are a reasonable place to learn within a low-risk environment. You're going to cover the whole thing anyway, so why not try things with the plastic first? Then zenithal helps you think about volumes in 3d, etc. Plus you now have a primed mini!
I'm now progressing out from my initial Sparmax with a .3 needle and now trying a Harder and Steenbeck with a .2. The basics like thinning paint, distance and trigger control are all carrying over just fine.

That question near the end about lacking motivation. In my experience waiting for motivation to come to you means you get very little done. Especially so in a creative endeavor.
Actively seek out inspiration and motivation. Sitting on your butt playing a video game because you arent inspired to paint, well no wonder, you arent trying to get inspired. Paint even when you are not motivated. It still feels good to get models done that way. I see this with some local guys who buy models over and over, and eventually turn them back in for store credit in various stages of sprue/build/primer but no paint. They constantly claim "no motivation" and they still buy stuff and build it but eventually dump it at a huge loss both monetarily and loss of opportunity to become better at painting.

Back from getting married, celebrating a birthday and setting up a new home painting studio! Got a decent number of episodes to catch up on which is nice! My thanks to James for the posture reminder and for raising desk lamps up on a box. Perfectly timed for the new desk setup. I've got mixed feelings about the GD categories. I like that the boxed games are getting their own categories. As Joe said warbands like Underworlds and Warcry have arguably nicer unit sculpts than AoS (ignoring the big models of course). However Duel and Diorama used to be so impressive on their own that I think we will see fewer entries now that they are competing for the same trophies. Time will tell when we get the rulepack though. Question for you guys. Would you ever change the trophy system for GD? Is a top 3 of each category adequately celebrating the sheer number of amazing entries GD now gets?
Ta muchly. See you in the comments for the next one! PS. Another vote here for Refreshers being S-Tier as they get bonus points for being vegan.

Why are people making blackcurrant drinks to strong is it down to colour similar to new painters having their paint to thick and solid thinking they'll have an easier amount of time painting.
Are you guys getting sponsored by sweet and drink companies? Also what's the best model you've ever painted for yourself?
You once did two quotes for me one of three figures and the second was just two figures but both quotes of the same figures differed by the second quote which you quoted a higher price for the same colour on the dark Angels Primaris marines.
