Thanks for watching. Hope you got something out of it. Never too late. A lot of us didn't get our PPL until mid 40's to 60's. Your local EAA chapter is probably a good place to get active. Usually good people that can help you with your goals and they have good events you can help support (Young Eagles!). We have an event at C56 this weekend. Best Wishes!
Thanks for participating in the Young Eagles event Saturday May 15! Chapter 260 had about 60 kids get their first flights and I know you gave a lot of them!
Thanks so much but really it was my pleasure. One of the kids I flew was ~10 year old girl and her mom was in the back seat. I had her put her hands on the controls. To hear her excitement and her say "Mom, look at me I'm flying!", well that was priceless. Something I'll never forget and maybe a spark for her to pursue aviation someday. Sharing this and paying it forward is so rewarding. I strongly encourage all pilots to get involved in EAA and fly Young Eagles! Chapter 260 did an amazing job on this event. Professional, safe, and fun!
Beautiful plane, nice flight, great video! Thanks for sharing. I had a Mooney 252 for travel a few years ago and fly a J3 Cub now for pure joy. Beginning to consider another travel plane and the Comanche is really attractive.
Glad you liked it. Mooneys are nice travelers. the Comanche is a bit slower but you gain some more room inside. If you plan to fill the seats the 250/260s are better. The 180 fits my mission for well now. Thanks for your comment and wish you well with your decision.
Thanks Dan. Thanks for the invite. I was super impressed with the EAA Ch 260 meeting and people and to be there for the announcement of the scholarship recipient. Love their work promoting aviation.
Yes it is. Good eye! It was installed with the autopilot system because it needs it. I am spoiled in that I use the electric trim when cruising but when I shut off the AP I revert back to using the trim handle. Thanks for your comment.
@@BlessedtoFly awesome. So I just recently purchased a Comanche 180 and have been slowly bringing it up to speed. Can you tell me where you got it? I need that in my life :)
@@travelingchef3242 I think any avionics shop should be able to help you out or point you in the right direction. Mine was installed by a previous owner way back in 1993. It was part of the STEC 60-2 installation.
Thanks for sharing your video. What year is your 180? I like the center radio stack. I am considering a Comanche as my next plane and would love to see a video on why you selected a 180 vs a 250.
Welcome aboard and thanks for your comment. Short answers: 8192P is a '64. Center stacks started in "61. I bought mine before I had a license and learned to fly in it. It was perfect for my mission and all I could/should try to handle as a new pilot. 750 hours into flying it, yes I could scale up but I still love it. I'd be spending more on a faster plane to use more gas and get there 15 minutes earlier on a 300 mile flight.
Hello, Sometimes I think 75% of pilots don't eve know what a Comanche is. Did you read those books that that lawyer, I think his name was Frank Kingston Smith, wrote back in the 60's perhaps? FYI when you have a tailwind during taxi push forward on the yoke. Also, I noticed that it appeared a lot more right rudder was needed during acceleration, rotation and initial climb. Have a great day.
I did not know about Frank Smith. Will check it out. Thanks. Max Conrad has been someone I like reading about. More people need to know about what he did! He flew a Tri-Pacer across the north Atlantic! That's insane. Noted on the taxi and take off work. Appreciate your comments.
Hi sir. Love your video! I am new to aviation. I do wonder if your avionics are enough for IFR fly rule, and if so, how much was needed to upgrade such system.
Yes, it is fully equipped. I got my IFR cert with it before we put the gps in. The equipment it had installed in the early 1990s (before I bought it) was dual KX155 Nav Com radios,, two CDIs one with glide slope, DME, ADF, attitude indicator, turn coordinator, heated pitot, alternate static, etc. Everything required by part 91.205. The autopilot and gps are not required but very helpful! The EAA and AOPA websites are good places to start learning more. Your local airport may have an EAA chapter were you can talk to pilots too. sign up for an Eagle flight on the EAA website if you’d like to go for a ride sometime. Thanks for your question and best wishes.
Good luck. Nothing is cheap nowadays. Insurance is a challenge too. Seek out a good instructor that fits your mission and find some mentors to chat with regularly. the aviation community is very helpful and friendly.
Yes, it has electric trim. Autopilot controls it or I have a thumb switch on the yoke but I use the manual handle before landing to make sure it is neutral and ready to land.
Love seeing other comanches, I have a 61 250. I don't have 4 CDIs though 😂 Edit: Oh, that last one looks like an RMI. Also I like B-GUMPS. Boostpump, Gas, Undercarriage, Mixture, Prop, Straps&flaps. Straps being seatbelts.
yes, 3 CDIs. Had 2 for the kx155s then added a third for the gps. 250 is an awesome machine. Was drooling over a few of them at Oshkosh. thanks for watching!
The State of Illinois is looking to make Bult Field a cargo airport. IDIT has put out a RFQ for developers that can design, build, and operate a cargo airport. Applications accepted until July 2025 with semifinalists selected Fall 2025.
I’m usually pretty sarcastic with my humor but didn’t want to lead with that with someone I didn’t know yet. thanks and check out the new video. There is at least one altimeter setting in there for you!
Good video. I’m south of you in Bloomington. I’m going to be 60 soon and I am not a PPL but hopefully will be in the future.

Very cool and smooth flight. Nice Comanche 180. Thanks for sharing your flight.
Glad you enjoyed it

Is that an added electric trim tab? I saw your trim move but not manually??
Yes it is. Good eye! It was installed with the autopilot system because it needs it. I am spoiled in that I use the electric trim when cruising but when I shut off the AP I revert back to using the trim handle. Thanks for your comment.

one more thought… If at all possible buy a plane with the equipment you need in it. Upgrading avionics gets pretty expensive.
@@BlessedtoFly Wow thank you for your reply! I will definitely check these out. Currently looking for a cheap Cessna 150 to start flying.
