I love the Comanche. I used to own in a group, a 1966 260B that was based at Biggin Hill, England. Tail number G-AVGA. We flew it all over Europe. It was such an accomplished tourer -155kts, 60 litres per hour, comfortable and spacious. One of the first owners flew it to Australia in an air race in 1969. When we had it 1997 and sold in 2005, it was all the old steam gauges - no GPS, just VOR’s.
You wouldn't happen to know who currently owns AVGA? It's a beautiful 260B I'd love to find out more about. I'm UK based but have a 260B in France that I am slowly restoring! If you want some UK Comanche buddies we should connect!
@@smokingspitfire1197 I sold the Comanche in June 2005 to Gordon Moir. If you look on the Ginfo website it has all the details. I do miss my 260B, but I could never afford the running costs nowadays. So on the day I took the exam I turned towards Temple, but no! The examiner had me hold on the Georgetown marker. He then told me to head for Waco. I was at 2000 feet and unable to receive Waco. @@tyronevanwyk3652 Not small at all, just a trick of the Camera. That was fun to watch. I just flew my Mooney from Northern California to Austin Exec a few days ago and departed KEDC just last night to head back to California. Fueled up at that same Henricksen self serve pump! It’s a small world in the aviation community.
The comanche and twin comanche have the larger 600 x 6 nose wheel / tire and so it usually hits the runway first......creating the wheelbarrow situation. A little more speed and flair helps.
Nice upgrade on the panel. I have been flying my 250 for 10years and I have been contemplating having a G3X installed. Could you share who the avionics shop / installer was. I’m located in North Texas. Comanche is a fine x country plane.
This video brought back memories of your old videos sticking around the greater Austin area. I love the cross country series, but I also miss the flights to Fredericksburg for barbecue and Brenham for a burger.
I imagine that thing on the PFD you were talking about was the FPV/FPA, or as many call it, the little green airplane. Very useful, one great use is put the top of the tail on the horizon, most are setup to give you exactly 3 degree descent, which will give you a near perfect glideslope tracking.
Josh, I remember seeing a Piper Aztec at Monmouth N.J. Airport in the early sixties, It was, I believe ,one of the first low wing aircraft with a retractable landing gear with a fixed gear rating which saved on insurance, I never saw a Comanche, but I see by Mr. Balls comments that it was produced a bit later. . Great VLOG, Cheers, Rik
I own a 24-250 Comanche. I've done one video and made an excuse that the smaller windscreen makes it less ideal and detracts. Great to see what someone that knows their way around storytelling can do and prove to me it really is just an excuse. Thanks!! Were those cameras plugged into external packs?
Great video! I was just wondering what tug you were using to pull the plane out of the hangar at 5:10. Looked super easy compared to my old electric tug!
I love glass cockpits. But before getting it for the Comanche I would have tried to get proper shoulder harnesses. Anyway, cool video, great video, thank you.
