why cant you mention the global conspiracy theory called covid??? anyone who can think for themselves and not allow the box in your living room which is the real virus to sway your thinking will know that this is a global SCAM!!!
My thoughts: 2010: Kinda forgettable, not that bad, could be worse. 2011: What a shocking end that was. Heartbreaking at first, but then you realize what happened to the winner of that race (R.I.P.), you start to feel happy that he won (at least I did). 2012: Once again, a shocking end. Definitely heartbreaking, but considering that the driver that wrecked on the final lap would get redemption a few years later, I'd still say I feel kinda bad for him in this race. 2013: One of the best races I've ever seen, such a shame it ended under caution. 2014: The first ever Indy 500 (and Indycar race in general) that I ever watched live, and good lord, what a race it was. Still gives me chills watching the last 6 laps every single time I see them. 2015: I've never personally cared for the winner of this race, but it was still a very exciting race to the end. 2016: A pretty nice upset, not the best race ever, but still decent. 2017: I love this race, especially considering what happened to the winner five years prior. Seeing him get his redemption was so satisfying. 2018: I'd say the most boring Indy 500 I've seen so far, the winner was pretty cool, but the race kinda sucked. 2019: Yet again, another fantastic finish. Two of the best current Indycar drivers duking it out (just like in 2012 and 2014-2015) for the biggest win of the season. Was an absolutely sensational race.
the yellow at the end in 2013 was probably attentional. ok that dario has said he didn’t but i still think that he did it on purpose to get his bud tk a win there

As an old guy (68) I tend to think back to the "golden years" of the 60s as the best of IMS, but in watching this, I may have to revise my thinking. Great job David. The curse that cannot be mentioned, will end and even in August, our love will remain THE Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

Gio Trapani i think he might of been a 3 time winner for sure bc he would of been racing for andretti and there prob the 2nd most competitive team in the indycar series. also prob another championship. but so sad he passed away. but i think both his sons are future drivers:)
I could picture if Wheldon hadn’t died, he could drive for Penske and be teammates with Helio Castroneves and Will Power. Wheldon would’ve won in that 7 for Andretti Autosport than NASCAR’s all time driver bust Danica Patrick. And Wheldon would have more Indianapolis 500 wins and Rolex 24 wins.
2015 was crazy. Hinchcliffe defying death, Crash-o-rama, And Juan Pablo Montoya showing a display of why hes one of greatest racing drivers of his generation. Going from being dead last to winning the 500.

One of the most well put together historical context videos I have ever seen on UA-cam. Probably the best in regards to motorsports. Thank you for this.
Best 33 minutes of my life! The 2011 Indianapolis 500 was the first Indy 500 race I’ve ever watched. Sadly I didn’t see the finish live because I was going out. R.I.P Dan Wheldon I finally got to see my all-time favorite driver Will Power win three Indy 500 in 2018! (Only on TV lol) Thankfully, I made my own Indy 500 playlist!
This is great narrating and documenting. David, you have one of, if not thee best narrating voices in the UA-cam auto racing community. Continue to stay safe and looking forward to the next one.
David, as usual your channel produces some of the best auto racing content on You Tube. I give you the vote for the very best due to ur undying passion for the Indianapolis 500. That being said my vote for the VERY BEST decade would be that of the 1960's, "The Decade of Change". The diversity of car builds, engine types, the draw for so many multidiscipline drivers ie; NASCAR, F1, dirt Champ Car, Sprints and asphalt Indy Car entries along with the early decade dominance of the venerable roadsters then giving way to the rear engine cars (really mid-engine but sometimes, in that era, called "Funny Cars.") I really admire your total adherence to Indy Car over all other series of Auto Sport. Please, from a long time fan of your content, an overview of 1960's and 1970's Indianapolis 500 decades would bring sheer joy not only to myself but, I would wager a guess, to the many, many of your fans who are long time devotees of the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Please keep up your great work but also remember the evolution of N/A, Turbo Charged, Turbine, 4 and 8 cylinder engines along with the radical improvements in aerodynamics leading major breathtaking leaps of lap speeds from one year to the next. I would really be honored if you would read this comment, maybe even respond to my thoughts. Stay in good health and know I will keep watching your channel!!!

What an awesome video!!! Thank You for putting in the work and making such a detailed, well paced, and downright HIGH QUALITY Breakdown of such an awesome era of racing!
This video is awesome. Grew up watching Nascar and would listen to the 500 on the radio whenever I was in the car on Memorial Day weekend. I went to my first 500 in 2015 and fell in love with Indycar and the 500 after that.
The quality of Indycar is just so good now. Can't stop watching it. I was previously more into IMSA but last two years Indycar has far and away become my favorite as they are truly executing so well now IMO. Can't stop simracing Indycar either as the cars are just so awesome. :)
agreed. It is a series where you have to be good on all types of tracks to win championships. Look at the 2021 season: We have had 7 different winners in 8 races and 4 of those drivers won their 1st race (Palou, O'ward, Veekay and Ericsson). Castroneves winning his record tying 4th 500. Dixon still being one of the best drivers on the planet and Colton Herta is a young stud of a driver. Also add to that the list of drivers who have NOT won a race - Newgarden, Power, Pagenaud, Rossi, Rahal, Hunter-Reay, Hinchcliffe, Bourdais and Sato. That is a further 9 drivers that are more than capable of winning a race every week. That is 16 drivers that can legit win a race every single week. That does not even include other drivers that could just find ways to win. It is extremely competitive.
Just now getting around to watching this, very well done! Even though this is the only decade I've fully lived through as a fan, it was a pleasure to be able to relive all of those memories and to be reminded of a few moments I had forgotten. Happy to keep pledging my Patreon support in these uncertain times. Hope you're staying safe and keep up the good work!

this is amazing content David, theres so much history to not just the 500 but Indycar itself, the Wheldon tragedy being one that you mentioned that I wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts on the whole Las Vegas part, Indycars first and second split (the first one I think many forget besides the part where CART was created)

The stranglehold of the Penske-Ganassi-Andretti trinity was still strong though. To have the best chance at winning the race you have to be in either of those teams. This was the reason why Alonso wanted the Andretti seat so bad, since it increased his chances for success (and the coveted Triple Crown along with it) until Honda told him to f*ck off.
