Crazy that when Michèle Mouton starts destroying records, they try their best to oppress her, and no man has to deal with what she just faced, still, she prevails. 💪🔥 What a legend.
Not really crazy at all if you think about it. Michèle came out of nowhere and when you're a male driver that is used to their colleagues being other male drivers it came as a shock to them. Especially when they started getting their ass beat by her. It's easy to see why a lot of men let their pride and ego get the better of them. It's by no means an excuse, but I would say it's unfortunately to be expected that they underestimated her time and time again. (plus the Quatro had it's fair share of haters)
Nobody tries to oppose, that's nonsensical. Woman have been competing in Auto racing in America since at least the 70s in Indycar. If they are good enough they are more than welcome play. The reality is they just domt often stack up to the male competition.
Sounds a bit like Wendell Scott, or Janet Guthrie. The GOB club doesn't like 'outsiders'. When Gurthrie was leading at Ontario, James Hylton passed her AND the pace car, before the green dropped, and instead of NASCAR giving him a black flag for passing under yellow, they credited him as leading so she would not be credited. Or Sebring when Liane Engeman was passed and the dude passing cut across her nose before he was clear, then blamed her for his wreck. Some dudes are just whining little b's.
my dad used to compete in the early to mid 70s in mainly porsches and corvettes, he was damn good. i still have his pikes peak driving team hat! we never got to make it out there to do a run together before he passed . im going to go one day to see if i can touch his record ....my grandmother who drove only mustangs since she got hers in 65 drove the most the way up and all the way back down after my grandad started wiggin out....he was an insane genious car builder but not much a driver...LoL
Though it may not have ever been a contender for the overall record, hands down, my facorite Pikes Peak race car was the late, great Old Smokey F1. Whats not to love about a Cummins-powered 1949 Ford F1 pickup that could smash the mountain and take the diesel record away from purpose-built tube frame race cars?
Cool stuff! I worked at Larry Carne’s speed shop in the late 70’s and was at the summit of PP when Bobby Unser won his race. A motorcycle also came across the finish and got his rear wheel over the side of the mountain but managed to get back on the track and finish his race. Dragging his rear wheel over the side also took out the finish line when he clipped the sign’s cable. A few of us grabbed part of the sign and held it up for an exhausting few minutes until everything got sorted out.

@seanprice7645Agreed, Henri Toivonen is/was that guy
@@kingcarrot6355nah, it's gotta be Ari Vatanen
This was a very well done video! Born and raised in Colorado Springs. This video has more memories for me than most. I met Loeb that year and have that car/poster autographed. My Wife about left me when she met Loeb, lol. Any how, I met Monster that year too and saw that car as well. Every year they have a couple days of celebration for he event downtown in Colorado Springs. We would always go.
The Unser's were the most important family in the history of the Hill Climb, period.
I now live in Texas though. Man do I miss Colorado Springs.
yooo hes back!!!!!!!!!
the goat is back, thank you my guy
I love your videos man, great vibe and excellent storytelling
First off love the video i'm so glad I found it, secondly how could to not name drop one of the most iconic rally cars ever? The Audi Quattro! Definitely my favorite rally car to ever race
Easily one of my favourite channels!!
Thank you so much for the work you do, keep em coming!
Great insight to the peak for those of us who have only experienced it in games. Well put together, thanks!
Crazy that when Michèle Mouton starts destroying records, they try their best to oppress her, and no man has to deal with what she just faced, still, she prevails. 💪🔥
What a legend.
It was the same here, in Europe. All afraid of losing their balls when Michele was on the way to win the WRC!
Nobody tries to oppose, that's nonsensical. Woman have been competing in Auto racing in America since at least the 70s in Indycar. If they are good enough they are more than welcome play. The reality is they just domt often stack up to the male competition.
@@loutsont2985 no they're not 🤣
Sounds a bit like Wendell Scott, or Janet Guthrie.
"bro i got an idea for a race"
"Lets hear it"
"So theres this mountain"
Thanks! What a great documentary. Bravo.
Wake up babe. New hunter video just dropped
The one time I was lucky enough to see the hill climb on tv, I fell in love with the rig class. That stuff is insane
this is genuinely my favorite video to fall asleep to.
I love that thing.Such a cool machine.
Amazing video. I just drove up Pikes Peak for the first time a couple days ago. It really put these drivers into perspective.
When the world needed him most
A graph that lowers as a good thing. Thank you
What a awesome documentary
This video deserves way more views and likes, masterpiece of a video.
FINALLY CULTUS GOT SOME RECOGNITION WOOOO!!!
Defo. The twin engine cars were way way more successful than the world seems to think
0:13 That's why we will build a city on Olympus Mons.
That would be really cool. A city literally in the sky
