    It was a great hobby of mine in the '60's and 70's, and again in the 90's. I just don't have the steady hands and good sight to pull it off now. I also can't wrap my mind around the price increases. Tamiya Kits were always the best, though. Far better than the old Monogram ones, which were intent on going through every variation of the PZKW IV chassis.

      It's true. Tamiya does have great kits. But I have seen much better scale figures from mini art. Maybe in the future I'll show some of them, because they are absolutely astonishing. You can see the expression on the faces of people. Tamiya does like a little bit on that department. And some of the older Tamiya kits are a handful, when it comes to putting them together, especially the the barrels in the cans. I wanted to show the farm animals as well however, I could not get them from our supplier. They were out of stock :-)

    Great video buddy. Some of the new Tamiya figures are fantastic, some of 5he best on 5he market ! Miniart masterbox and Dragon are good to but I find 3specially with miniarts figures they have to be cleaned up and filled in places. Tamiya figures seem to just fall together as do their kits. Mind you I have had to do the odd bit of cleaning up. I do love the Master box figures as they have so many great themes . Hope you are well ? Stay safe buddy

    • @Mysmallhobby
      @Mysmallhobby  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Hamburgerhill162 :) that's a long name :-) Thanks for the question. If you are building a diorama and you're using 1:35 scale vehicles, than anything in the same scale is appropriate. Think of the scale as how many times smaller the item is compared to real life size. So if a tank is in 1:35 scale that means that it is 35x times smaller then in real life. Thus rule rule applies to the figures as well and anything marked with 1:35. Besides this is the most popular scale for model builders, because there's an abundance of vehicles especially armor and figures. But you'll be hard-pressed to find any planes in that scale. So if you wish to be more diverse, you should go for 1:48 scale. This is a much smaller scale, but you can use planes tanks and figures.

    Dec. 28m, 2018----Thanks for the video. I have many of the kits you have, but not all. Getting back into modeling, but going for 1/35th scale zombie/apocalypse dioramas. Now I like the weapon sets as many people own and shoot the actual rifles in them and eventually will be using one of the flamethrowers against a group of zombies. The repair kits will work great in any diorama from WW 2 to today. I also have Italeri's repair shop kits. However, bought and was disappointed in the Kubelwagen kit w/engine. The bottom part of the engine and its supports are molded as part of the lower frame, with another piece being added to the top of the bottom piece. I honestly expected a separate engine that I hoped to make a silicone mold of, then cast copies in resin for use in some diecast VW bugs and buses I bought in the last year or so. Also, check figure height sizes between Tamiya & Italeri. I did after seeing an article about this on a modeling web site. The German infantry figure from Italeri LOOMS over the Tamiya G.I. Got my 1/35th scale ruler out and Tamiya's G.I. measures basically 5' 8" tall, while Italeri's are 6' tall. Haven't checked Minicraft or Miniarts figure heights yet. Checked Google and both countries average heights were 5' 8" to 5' 10". A kind of strange to mix these 2 manufacturers figures in a diorama...which is something I wanted anyway because not everyone is the same height. Only thing I forgot was to check weapon sizes. Is an M-1 Garand by Tamiya going to be the same size as Italeri's?Another problem with today's/yesterdays figures is lack of a brain. They ALL seem to be wearing a mandatory helmet whether in combat or kickin' back between fighting each other. PITA to add hair/skull to a figure via putty, shaping it, etc. Was working on modifying some of them to look like civilians, then plan on making silicone molds of them. And yes, bought some resin heads to speed up the process. And as for motorcycles, the only modern one available is by Tamiya and used by the JSDF. And too few Japanese/Korean figures whether WW 2 or modern....and the Japanese seem to be shown as ALWAYS running. Didn't those people ever kick back to have a brew or eat a bowl of rice? Got both sets of fuel drums, but want to buy a 3D printer next year. Have literally downloaded 500 to 800 free programs for things such as plates, frying pans, modern furniture, etc. Things that could be used in any diorama from WW 2 to today and something that's not really available, though Miniart does have bottles and some other things to use in a diorama.

    • @Mysmallhobby
      @Mysmallhobby  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for the comment :) A large part of scale modelling is using your imagination and being resourceful. :) I have yet to build a diorama myself, but I do intend to build one in the future. As far as the differences in figure height, it's hard to make mass production a figures different heights. So if you mix and match figures from different manufacturers, you might get a more realistic setting. :) As far as JAP soldiers are concerned it true :) I have not seen many figures at rest :)

      July 17, 2019----Go to Ebay, which is where I've basically gotten ALL my figures, including horses and wagons. Italeri & Miniart for example, have German soldiers walking beside or laying in a wagon which is pulled by several horses. Don't forget that Germany's army was NOT that mechanized when it came to troop movement. They relied mainly a lot on horses, bicycles and just plain walking. This is where they screwed the pooch in not being able to move a mass number of troops from point A to B quick enough. Look what the U.S. during the Battle of the Bulge. There's Tamiya's Wehrmacht figures (2 each) mounted on horses and again, 2 figures w/2 bicycles. Also, Tamiya has a field kitchen, pulled by 2 horses.

      July 17, 2019---THE hardest thing so far doing my dioramas are women....or I should say, lack of them. There are a couple dozen maybe more resin ones, but most start at $8, to $18. As to plastic ones, they're stuck in the 40's/50's styles of dress. I have several boxes of Zombie Hunter, The Skull Clan, Pinup Girls and girls dressed up as maids with short dresses, etc. Modifying them takes a lot of work.
