+tech noir Yeah i agree with you, as awesome of a guy he is and his technicality is off the charts unlike any other guitarists, he hasnt got a particular connection to it like as if he's breathing his emotions in it
+tech noir Most people would say if you're playing an instrument, you are putting emotion and soul into it, regardless. It's an art form. So yes, he does have soul in his playing, as it IS unavoidable to do so. Though I admit at times, with some of his solos, it felt like he structured them in a way where mentally he knew it fit well together... and not by how he FELT it fit best together. An example would be... Like when you're composing a solo in the Key of E Minor. He would maybe play the 12th fret of the E string in a particular spot because it's the correct note for that spot and it's guaranteed to fit in the key in a proper song composition. Whereas some guitarists would take the 10th fret of E and bend it to 12, then maybe tap 15 at the top of the bend because it FELT right to them. Not because it was correct on paper. So in that sense, it does seem like he was more mathematical than emotional with his playing.
After 20 years shredding I realise how you make the guitar sound like the human voice /manipulation of frequencies is vital, hence why Poland and Friedman are two of the best guitarists ever and the others are pretty generic.
I met Dave E. at NAMM a couple of years ago as Megadeth is my number one band. I was very disappointed and let down. Actually crushed by his attitude at his signing!!! He sounds cool but he is not cool =(
Yeah, I guess!! But it is my favorite band and I waited years for that time to come!! The last couple times I saw him I had no interest in meeting him. But maybe I will next time if I ever get that opportunity again =) Thanks JD Music!
Broderick made a huge mistake. It's not like extreme metal is paying much these days. He is a shitty player. All technique and no content, yet he leaves mustaine and a big paycheck for a new band that will not last more than a couple years at best?? Stupid
Jesus....man, Junior looks so old. Not meant to be an insult. I have tons of respect for him. Just saying... Also, I think I speak for all Megadeth fans (please, correct me if I'm wrong) when I say "good riddance, Shawn Drover". I don't want to completely disrespect a musician like that, so that isn't as harsh as it sounds. I just mean that he was never right for Megadeth. That band is a band that can only thrive when it has truly creative musicians. When you listen to Shawn's beats, there is very little that you can point at and say "wow...I haven't heard that before". He did his job, but he is no Nick Menza (or any other renowned drummer, for that matter). I have high hopes for this new lineup, though what I've heard so far hasn't really blown me away. Honestly, I think Dave Mustaine is the heart and soul of the band. He ends up deciding whether or not a Megadeth album is going to be huge, or not. I liked Endgame, I LOVED 13, I hated Supercollider, and what I've heard of this next album doesn't appear to be something Megadeth fans can get really excited about. I've spent a lot of time doing things like reading "Mustaine" (Dave's biography), and following the history of the band. The fact is, Megadeth also thrives when Dave has that musical fire. It depresses me to say this, but he appears to be losing that fire. It's inevitable. No king reigns forever, but that doesn't make it any less sad when the reign comes to an end.
+The Metal One I really digged Menzas energy in his playing, but he's a total jerk. So you can't really work with him. I feel the same about SC and I hope for some cool tracks on the new album.
The Metal One I can't say that for sure, cause i haven't seen on of them playing live. They are hard to compare, but gar coming from jazz is very unique and adds a lot to the songs feeling of the early albums. I'm happy that there are both megadeth-eras. I think it also comes down to which album was the entry-album to megadeth. Mine was CtE which i really love. English is not my mothertongue so i listened to it without understanding most of the lyrics. I only discovered them years later when my english improved a lot. Guitarist wise i first thought Marty was the best they had, but when i got better as a player myself...its Chris Poland. I could never play the crazy influences hes into.

Whereas some guitarists would take the 10th fret of E and bend it to 12, then maybe tap 15 at the top of the bend because it FELT right to them. Not because it was correct on paper. So in that sense, it does seem like he was more mathematical than emotional with his playing.
Damn ! he has aged so much
After 20 years shredding I realise how you make the guitar sound like the human voice /manipulation of frequencies is vital, hence why Poland and Friedman are two of the best guitarists ever and the others are pretty generic.
Dave is a Christian......Lutheran pastor i do believe
I met Dave E. at NAMM a couple of years ago as Megadeth is my number one band. I was very disappointed and let down. Actually crushed by his attitude at his signing!!! He sounds cool but he is not cool =(
You should never have expectations meeting your heroes. He was probably tired and exhausted.
Yeah, I guess!! But it is my favorite band and I waited years for that time to come!! The last couple times I saw him I had no interest in meeting him. But maybe I will next time if I ever get that opportunity again =) Thanks JD Music!
Are there any other musicians that you've met and can you tell me how they treated you?
David Ellefson definetly has bold spots now. That sucks :(
Never liked Chris Broderick's guitar playing for Megadeth.
Dave should grow his hair a foot longer.
Broderick made a huge mistake. It's not like extreme metal is paying much these days. He is a shitty player. All technique and no content, yet he leaves mustaine and a big paycheck for a new band that will not last more than a couple years at best?? Stupid
He didn't get paid that much. That's why he left.
Matthew Berdyck He at least had too make a couple grand a show right
Alan Lloyd awesome player when he was is megadeth
The Eidolon era is happening all over again my brothers....
+The Metal One
I really digged Menzas energy in his playing, but he's a total jerk. So you can't really work with him. I feel the same about SC and I hope for some cool tracks on the new album.
onpsxmember Agreed.
It's a real shame Menza is such a douche. He's definitely the best drummer Megadeth ever had, though Gar was a close second.
The Metal One
I can't say that for sure, cause i haven't seen on of them playing live.
Shawn drover did good on some songs like kingmaker and a couple others on that album. But overall, most people didn't like him
Kiko sucks Marty's the best
Marty is among the very best ever.
Kiko's very good. My fav is Chris Poland.
No one will top marty, but Kiko most definitely doesn't suck.
poland was the best
It's almost like Ellefson feels obligated to offset the twatwaffle that is megadave mustaine in his demeanor .
Chris was the most un-inspiring lead guitar player Megadeth has ever had.
He was really good though, but yeah it felt very unenthusiastic, he played what he had to and thats all
💙💙💙💙💙 Hmmhhh,,,,,,,,, KIKO IZ THE BEST GUITARIST AFTER MARTY IN MEGADETH,,,,,, OTHERS. NO SOULS,,,,,, SUCKS,,,,,, BORING,,,,,STUFFS,,,,,,,
Kiko is a great player, but I don't like his tone at all
It's different in Angra
In my opinion dystopia kinda sucks
Better than SC though
Please, Kiko isnt even close to Marty Friedman. Friedmans solos are the best solos Megadeth will ever have.
Tornado Of Souls!
This interviewer talks TOO MUCH !!!!! Shut up
