Why would you even test the TUF is you didn't update the drivers? literally no point and makes all the comparisons irrelevant. Poor review buddy. Genuine waste of everyone's time.
I have to disagree with the things you said about noise. For me personally the noise is always the most important part after performance and I always try to run my components as quietly as possible without running in the temp limit as I usually render stuff over night with my PC in the same room. Also saying that the GPU noise is irrelevant because you wont be able to hear the gpu in the system because other components are louder anyways doesnt make sense to me. It would be interesting if you couldve shown us some data so the viewers could see how much quieter the card actually is. But ofc its highly unlikely that the gap would be high enough to justify this ridiculous price in any way. Other than that I agree with the things you said and poined out, I especially like that the videos are focused on creative applications which is really useful and something I havent seen on UA-cam so far ;)
Same here, wanted it for quiet htpc/gaming rig, but ended up with PNY 4090 because of the price ... and that cars wad WAY more silent than my old MSI 3080.
Nah, the real reason why Noctua is doing the 4080 is because the 4090 has some hardware issues (melting connectors for example) and Noctua needs to keep thier reputation in order for them to keep their prices up. Now you might ask, Nvidia needs to keep their reputation too, they are bigger then Noctua isnt it? Well, they actually blame users for the melting connectors issues, so... yeah.
The Noctua is specifically aiming for higher cooling power or low noise at the same temperature. There they succeed. If this isn't your interest, this isn't for you.
I think the ambient temperature might make a bigger difference here. I'm trying to say, at higher ambient temperatures the noise level might be exponentially higher for other cards. No numbers were given for the noise tests? I mean, it might not matter to you but it matters to people who wants to buy it? From where I am the ambient is usually >33 Degree Celsius. Higher ambient temperature might also cause the card to perform differently with the tests carried out. Also not mentioning the longevity of the cards running at higher temperatures throughout the life of the card. But does it justify the price? Need to see the numbers.
This interesting and very informative review is great, but I have to disagree on the noise thing. At the moment, the loudest thing in my case if my current RTX 2060 graphics card is idling, is the hard drive. Yes, the rattling old-fashioned device holding terabytes of pictures and videos. When I start gaming, the graphics card is by far the loudest device out there. The case fans are almost silent, so is the power supply fan. For me at least, noise production is one of the more important aspects of a graphics card. So for me, this Noctua card can be of great benefit. If I want to pay the steep extra price for it is the next question...
Hey man, I've working in the cleaning and maintenance of PC's formally since 2017. Since lockdowns and cryptomining, I've receiving a lot of GPUs with LOOSE screws, specially in the die area... Like 1 full turn loose. You should check that on all your graphic cards actually... Around 3/5 cards I get to clean come like that these days and even in new ones (specially new ones :/)
The only benefit I can see is if you want a smaller form factor build, but 400 more is way out there I would take the 4090 option all day long given the choice.
won't make sense in a SFF or mATX build as well, most case sizes mentioned are at most 4 expansion slots and the card is 4.3 slots thick - thicker than nicki minaj
This actually makes LESS sense cause of it's massive size. I currently have a 4080 FE in a formd T1 which is the smallest compatible case available and I get phenomenal cooling performance alongside my undervolted 7700x in the middle of summer heat. This card is just stupid for the 4080
For anything Audio the Noctua still has purpose. I’ve owned the Tuf card, it’s like hearing a fighter jet take off. Impossible to record with and mine also developed coil wine. What these review don’t show or explain is how noisey they become as they wear in. Still a very informative review.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Asus/Noctua had issues with getting Nvidia to let them use AD102 chips to make a 4090 version of this for whatever reason, it would be the only logical explanation why this cooler was only released on a 4080
@@theTechNotice Fans of higher-end CPU coolers would need to run at 1000 to 1200 rpm max, same goes for case fans, PSUs usually run almost silent, if not completely when overspec'd. GPU fans are usually smaller and run faster than CPU- or case fans and are therefore louder. 1500 to 2000 rpm would be normal for GPUs.
Honestly I'd argue that if you have a good 360mm+ AIO for your CPU, the GPU under load is for sure the loudest component in your system. I was disappointed that you didn't have any dB benchmarks comparing the cards. How MUCH quieter is it? Would be interesting to benchmark it against the new AIO 4080s that came out since this video released
yeah I have a 3080ti and the stock fans on it are absolute jets and honestly makes high end gaming annoying, CPU fan is noctua NH-D15 which is why I'm considering getting this 4080 so it's just a quiet
It's a very smart marketing move. If you release Noctua 4090 right away as the only option, you'll have some sales, of course, but not much. 4090 is expensive. If you release 4080 first, you get some sales, you boost buyers' interest, you heat up the market, and then at the peak of selling 4080 and at the peak of people demanding 4090, you release Noctua 4090 (maybe with 3 fans to look more aggressive), and you win! You get sales of both 4080 and 4090. Double profit. I'm pretty sure Noctua already has 4090 prototype and only waits for the most proficient time.
of course the gpu is always the loudest, they always have absolutely terrible cooling, the noctua is the only silent one. and you can easily replace the fans if needed. not a marketing item, just noctua style. for me noise is the primary feature, always.

I think most people, including me have no idea how overbuildt the 4080 cooler is, i think its 3 times bigger as my 2080 😅
9:35 I guess I'm the exception to this statement. I recently built a new PC. I'm using open back headphones, which means I don't block out much noise from my PC. The i5 13600 cpu is air cooled with a Noctua NH-D15S, and I can't really hear the fans until they get past 60%+ speed, which is pretty much never. My GPU is a PNY 4070ti, known for very low noise levels compared to similar air cooled cards, which was the main reason I got it. However, when I'm gaming the only thing I actually hear are the fans on my GPU ramping up and down. Basically, my system overall is more or less quiet except for the GPU when it's under load. My previous card was a 1080 hybrid card, so I guess I have been spoiled by low noise levels. So in my case it makes a lot of sense to get something like the Noctua card, unless I go for another hybrid card again.
Interesting vid, as usual. Question. The 4080 noctua edition lenght is 310mm, and that is quite short and a longer card can be a NO GO in some watercooled atx cases (I know that). So, regardless of the price, does an aircooled 4090 shorter than 310mm exists ?
Having bought the Zotac 4090 AMP Extreme Airo, it is among the best cards when it comes to coil whine, it is whisper quiet. Cooling is also excellent but my god the fans are terrible. Asus cards on the other hand are almost always whisper quiet when it comes to fans but they have terrible coil whine. For me, if we could have this noctua cooler on the zotac cards, it would absolutely be the best of both worlds.
After a lot of research i bought Gigabyte rtx 4090 Gaming Oc, undervolted it and I literally cant even tell that the card is on, besides the rgb that is, 350+ fps at 1440p while gaming and literally 0% sounds, 0% coil whine and GPU temps at 49C and hotspot at 52C. SO HAPPY WITH THE SPECIFIC PURCHASE :)

I don't know how your build your systems, but in mine, the GPU under load is usually the loudest part of mine. My power supply, HX1200's fan never comes on. My PA120 heat sink fans cooling a 5950x, Silent Wings 4 and T30 run at 850rpm when under full load, inaudible from 1m away. The case fans run at 500rpm for the 180mm fans, also inaudible, even late at night. Keeps the CPU and GPU at +46c degrees delta, when stress tested. You don't have much choice in what fans can go on the GPU, you can only control their RPM with MSI afterburner. So if they are quiet, then even better
I wonder if the cold plate is large enough to cover the 4090 die. Would be interesting to see how the noctua cooler, fans and shroud fare on the 4090. No it's not at all practical to buy both a 4080 and a 4090 to do this, but the idea is something I had thought about with the noctua 3080, which legitimately could make a marked improvement in cooling which possibly could result in higher overall clock speeds.
This'd make more sense if the FE models of the RTX 40XX series weren't already overkill cooling solution to begin with. Add the higher price of this on top & it becomes a rather unattractive option for already horribly priced GPUs.
Sense is there it's shorter. I have Corsair 680X case and I had to return Asus Strix RTX4080; because it would not fit in my case.. No point in making cards or coolers longer when SLI in not the point anymore and usually there is space vertically.
I also have the Corsair Crystal 680X case, were you able to mount the Noctua 4080 GPU vertically in the seat already present in the case or is it too thick ? Kindly let me know. Thank you
Check if your 4080 has a vapor chamber. It is not at all dependent on price. But it makes your system stable and quiet. My much cheaper Gigabyte Eagle OC has one and the fans are so quiet gaming. Some high end branded MSI and also that TUF card have NO VAPOR CHAMBER!
This review was a total miss. The whole point is a whisper quiet cooling system. I'd gladly pay the premium for the silent operation under max load. I'm a VFX artist who works from home. To be able to work with no headphones, no active noise cancelation, with the system running at 100% is a godsend. Especially running 10-20 hour renders on the GPU, with no noticable noise. The loudest thing in my flat when redering is my breathing. I don't mind overpaying for the cooling, if the system is quiet. And that's the whole point of the GPU. Plus, it's so much more simpler, and not to mention cheaper, than running water cooling.
My system is so quiet that it would definitely benifit from a noctua gpu. But it's not worth the extra cost imho because most current ada gpus are still reasonably quiet. I'd still get a 4090 over this tho
What, in what world is the gpu not the loudest component of your build? Unless youre building with an ATX psu, the gpu will literally always be the loudest component.
It's a specialty card for those who need quiet builds (e.g. computer is right next to you in the bedroom and running some processing overnight). This review just seems to dismiss its main purpose and then compares it on a bunch of other stuff.
They need to cut the profit between three brands, not between two which is the usual. That's why it's too expensive. Noctua does amazing fans, but it doesn't make sense on a GPU.
unrelated since i'm too poor for this GPU's existance to matter to me at all but IMO it is a shame we never got an ARC A770 16GB review from you, it is still selling for $350 and nobody has done a "creator" focused review but there is plenty 3060 coverage from creators perspectives :(
Even the Galax RTX 4080 ST I'm getting, is much cheaper than Noctua's 4080 in NZ. Plus the Galax has 3 fans & looks much better than the Noctua. I would not even want to put this GPU in my PC, as the colours are a huge turn off lol :P Galax 4080 ST: $2199NZD($1367.11USD) Noctua 4080: $2799NZD($1740.13USD)
this GPU can change to any fan when fan fail, nothing special, but is kinda useful feature, if someone create a 3d printing mounting for any other card to change standard cpu available fan, yes to substitute this noctual variant
And I assume you could invert the fan direction for exhaust - sometimes in SFF cases this is preferable to intake, to avoid a hotbox case slowcooking the CPU/PSU.

The card is only 30% more expensive than the competition. The Noctua fans are 500% more expensive than Arctic fans which perform about equally, so the card is kind of cheap.
It's a vanity card purchase, why do you buy it? Because a person can at that price, it allows them to show off their GPU Flex. As was said in the video, at the Noctua 4080 price, you can buy 4090 card, that's what I would do, instead of buying a way overpriced 4080 card, even if it's a Noctua edition.
The GPU is absolutely the loudest component in any system, what are you smoking my guy? The price is absurd when you can deshroud but it's made to capitalise on the people who were too afraid to do basic deshrouding.
Makes no sense if it is not on the top-of-the-line 4090. And then, only for emotional, non-technical reasons. And that was obvious even without Laurie's video.
2:15 - you claim that the Amp Extreme Aero has the highest clockspeed under load, yet you show only advertised clockspeeds? Why? 8:40 - "is the noctua better"? well without comparing the RPM and noise that is a meaningless statement - just crank up the fans to 100% and it is "better". But what counts is how noisy it is for a given cooling performance, or for the extreme - how high it can ramp up and cool at max capacity. The "is it quieter" is the same thing - useless. You need both. Also no, in general the GPU is the loudest part - if not than you did something SERIOUSLY wrong. Case-fans are plenty and only need to provide a bit of nearly unrestricted airflow. And the CPU in general needs far less power and has a better placement for cooling. And then the price - that really is regional. Here it is ~1230€ for the lowest 4080s, 1330€ for the noctua version, and most 4080s are in the range of 1300€. So not much of a difference
There are AIO style 4080 to by now. After seeing the pricing of the assus noctua 4080 here in Norway i was dissapointed and i went to No, that`s way to pricy. And after assus latest BIG FUCKUP on the am5 side... I`m staying away from Any assus product 🙄
so basically you used TUF as your control group even knowing the driver versions were mismatched - and thenyou go about justifying eventual deltas in results based on this, when convenient... I think you should have just saved yourself the embarassment and retest before even making this video... just a constructive feedback; in the end I agree the Noctua card isn't worth the price bump since it gets into 4090 price territory, which provides much better performance. And the idea of a 4090 Noctua, perhaps with 3 coolers (ok it would be huge), would actually make way more sense, as you said :)
Uhh, I just have to laugh at these cards now, Look i have an intel nuc extreme 12th gen, and the card is like bigger than my whole computer, If the computers are not getting smaller then tech isnt getting much better IMO.

If they’re going to price it like a 4090 may as well include a 4090 in the benchmarks 🤷♂️
For me the Noctua is for a small form factor case. I want to build a small 10L case and most 4080 3 fan cards won't fit but this would fit perfectly!
Thank you
I don’t understand why they don’t make a 4090 version to really use its potential. Hopefully there will be a 5090 variant.
I finished building may first PC video editing thank you for your advised i learned allot from you .
Yes, there are 4080 Liquidcooled card out there! Colorful 4080 neptune & Gigabyte 4080 xtreme waterforce
I'd buy it becuase it will fit my Torrent Compact without removing the front 180mm fans.
My wife has an RX 580 and I have a RTX 2060 what would be the best budget cpu's to pair with thease right now we are both using I7-3770's.
12th gen intel will go fine I am running a rx480 nitro with a i5 12600 and it works well.
I got a Strix 4090 OC, only £400 more, and the Strix is also very very quiet
Can you compare the noise/perf between the 2?
Only £400 more?
That's a 1/3 of the total price.
This can of beer is $3 but this one here is colder and costs $4 lol madness.
@@DailyCorvid Eh? Yes, its a 4090. vs 4080.
My system is so quiet that it would definitely benifit from a noctua gpu. But it's not worth the extra cost imho because most current ada gpus are still reasonably quiet. I'd still get a 4090 over this tho
the GPU is the loudest by far.. in any system.. wth do u have in ur system that is louder then the gpu??
What, in what world is the gpu not the loudest component of your build?
Unless youre building with an ATX psu, the gpu will literally always be the loudest component.
Whats about Coilwhine? Thx
It's a specialty card for those who need quiet builds (e.g. computer is right next to you in the bedroom and running some processing overnight). This review just seems to dismiss its main purpose and then compares it on a bunch of other stuff.
For some who are using a small case, smaller card that cools efficiently is a big plus
Thanks Tech Notice. I have just cancelled the order with this price I would buy a MSI Suprim X RTX 4090. Nice video !! Subscrided !!
I'd like to see a 4070 ti version.
For 1200$
Is ddr5 worth it over ddr4 already?
10:05 there are factory watercooled 4080's : aorus and colorful igame
I would not even want to put this GPU in my PC, as the colours are a huge turn off lol :P
Galax 4080 ST: $2199NZD($1367.11USD)
Noctua 4080: $2799NZD($1740.13USD)
I think the main selling point of the Noctua is the length of the card. Besides the FE its the only cart under 310mm
this GPU can change to any fan when fan fail, nothing special, but is kinda useful feature, if someone create a 3d printing mounting for any other card to change standard cpu available fan, yes to substitute this noctual variant
And I assume you could invert the fan direction for exhaust - sometimes in SFF cases this is preferable to intake, to avoid a hotbox case slowcooking the CPU/PSU.
"It just doesn't make sense!"
-Tshirt please :) Would wear proudly.
I like that!
@@theTechNotice YT Merch collector! I have loads of really unique things I badger the creators I follow to make.
I actually have a pair of boxers with Linus Tech Tips face on LOL never wear them but a decent value collector piece.
Never thought I would pay for another mans boxers, but here we are :D Meme pants.
I disagree. The GPU IS the loudest part in my system...and this thing is my wet dream to solve that.
Same here. I own Asus 4070 TUF and when I work it's a quiet card (because most of the time the fans will not spin) but when I am gaming the fans will ramp up and I hear then very clearly. The longer I am gaming the more I hear them. This version would may have fix it.
the main reason getting the noctua 4080 because of its dimensions
Gpu is always the loudest component in yoru system lol.
Noise and enabling itx builds. You want compact you pay for it. Price doesn't make sense to most pc builders.
this card will be easier to overclock, consistently and without issue than probably anything else on the market currently.
these will be sough after when Blackwell releases and sells for a normal price 1600 is stupid pricing, $ Noctua premium is not worth 40% extra lol
I'd rather buy a 4090 on sale...IF I HAD THE MONEY!
When gaming, GPU IS THE LOUDEST COMPONENT.
ASUS is on my banned list until their behavior improves - due to their BIOS destroying some AMD chips.
Just thinking, this or 3 fan RTX
Waste of money. 4090
Great video dude!
Wow $200 each for a A12x25, fan prices have really gone up.
Lol
Hi Sir, I'm watching ur videos now and then, it's just excellent no words. Last Sunday, I created 4k video of 5 minutes on Core2Duo E7500, 2.93Gh, 4GB Ram, Intel BoxBoard using WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe. Intel is Intel. 👍👌🙏🇮🇳
10:03 Inno3d has a 4080 with a waterblock on it... Frostbite :)
This just make me wonder why GPU manufacturers are not making GPUs with replaceable cooling fan system. Like what CPU fans are. These stock gpu fans are just too noisy
I'm that guy that says, well if i just spend a little more, i can get a 4080. BUT, if i spend a couple hundred more, i can get a 4090. Well now here i am with a 4090
You got 150K now!
I hope you don't go "popular" and totally change the format.
This channel is so cool, but I like it the way it is lol please do not do a Linus!
Do Linus how? :)
@@theTechNotice He used to be sooo much better, but now his channel is 99% for babies to watch, nothing useful in it!
He still does the WAN show though, that is the only remaining piece of the OG Linus show. It's still awesome, but I don't watch his channel stuff now.
To be fair to Linus, he does well but it would be like if you were sponsored $500k to do a 45 min fidget spinner video :D
It's for people who want a silent air-cooled GPU
Sorry but the GPU is the loudest component in a PC. And not all gamer use headsets to cancel noise out.
Zotac has always been cheap and dirty quality control. EVGA was the best. Gigabyte has all vapor chambers, Eagle onward is that way for much cheaper
im gonna buy it anyway because its quiet...i hate my pc when the fan sound like jet
Just buy two noctua fans and add them to a regular 4080 (or 4090).
Should have had 2x140mm or 3x120mm fans
2 x 140 for low noise
@@fofofulleroor 2x200mm for the 4090 for even less noise
Guess what... It doesn't make sense. Like you and others in the comments said, this cooler would be great on a 4090.
Noctua is also like 3 cm shorter
There are AIO style 4080 to by now. After seeing the pricing of the assus noctua 4080 here in Norway i was dissapointed and i went to No, that`s way to pricy. And after assus latest BIG FUCKUP on the am5 side... I`m staying away from Any assus product 🙄
Thanks for the discount on Windows 11 😎
Great Video again
400 bucks for 2 Noctua coolers? Asus has done it again haha
erm.. yeah
With noctua you pay for quality and longevity
so basically you used TUF as your control group even knowing the driver versions were mismatched - and thenyou go about justifying eventual deltas in results based on this, when convenient...
At this point I'd only buy it if Noctua provides the warranty, not Asus. Any Asus is tainted.
