This might sound like a stupid question but how do I know what led setting to choose from when setting up the app and then secondly do I calibrate to the PPFD map with the light at 100%?
Can you please tell me how to calculate PPE? All luminaire manufacturers specify PPE on their lamps. Is there any rule of thumb for the measurement? Should I measure PPFD by squares of the whole area and then calculate the average value, which then should be divided by the power consumption? At what height to measure? What is the optimal total area for a 320W LED lamp?

Shane, is your phone app "consistent" with the spectrum differences of light fixtures? Compare 6500k with 4000k with 3000k for instance...Thanks for your testing efforts!!!✌️
Hello, I've got one major problems with LED grow lights, they all have those nasty spike in the blue spectrum centered around 450nm. Additionally, they give off very small amounts where the blue, green (cyan) interface meets, and quickly rises up with green, red, then tapers down at the far-red spectrum. I don't know why that's happening? I don't know if your recommend CMH bulbs over LED's, but any information will help in trems of why different bulbs gives off different intensity as spectrum changes from 380-780nm.
For Philips, if you use CMH. It works but I know some doing hybrid of cmh between 2 LED.. good results if you are up north and need extra heat from the bulb plus the CMH spectrum from Philips was proven best when they all came out (via GrowersHouse CMH bulb test)
Thank you for all the work you have done to educate us. I have a question though. What source type do I select in PPFD Meter app for a full spectrum led? I'm using a Spider Farmer SF-4000, the one that has the light control knobs. Thank You Again!
Wondering if you can help me. When calibrating the ppfd meter app, what should I put in? Spiderfarmer se3000 FULL SPECTRUM & DIMMABLE: Full spectrum (380-410nm, 660-665nm, 730nm,3200-4200K,4800-5000K. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks for making great videos!
In short, I'd say 3500K w/10% 660nm Red. I was just checking out the specs on this light from their Amazon site(where there's a PAR Map for this fixture in a 3'x3', or 90cm x 90cm sized tent, at 8" and 10" above the canopy. 12" would be better from looking at the map, IMO. I couldn't find out how many Diodes of each color, for an average, but a review from someone who's used several brand name lights, said this wasn't as "Cool White" as some others, but more of a "Warm White"(and 25% more yield, as it's better for flowering, they said). I'd try the 3500K setting, with 10% 660nm Red(unless you can determine which percent of the Diodes are 660nm Red, I'd estimate 10%). Most PAR Meters only detect between 400nm-700nm. Shane has a very new, very expensive Apogee Meter that detects UV and IR(Infrared), but most are the same Spectrum range as Lumens are detected, 400nm-700nm. The added UVA(680-700) and IR(730nm) are minimal enough not to change the PAR much at all, but do seem to definitely help with growth. Not sure if that helped at all..? Sounds like a great light, and perfect for a 3'x3' grow tent!👍💯✌️
Hey man so.. I picked up the uni-t. When I put it up against my phone sensor and I've also used it up against a new Samsung Galaxy, the readings from the phones are both around the same.. but when I hook up the uni-t, it reads way off. Have you ever had to calibrate it or heard of anyone having to do calibration....? Do you think that I should get a new meter?
Just Got it ... Love it !! Does it need to be Calibrated in the App? I find when I am using it with my MAXSISUN MF1000 that it is reading about 150 PPFD lower than the Map provided with the Light. I had to calibrate the App up about 10% and it read correctly. Question is, does this then hold true when testing other lights at different Kelivns?
Hey hey, you are in good state. If you have reached your %10 by comparing couple of different(low/high) spots then you should be good to go. This, simply means that, you are getting a relative reflex from your setup (Phone + lights) according to a top class PAR Meter. Unfortunetly, if you change the environment like the color of the light, things will change slightly but you will be still in a good range.. Still, to be more accurate better to do the calibration again.
@@ppfdapp7208 thx. I only have one light with a manufacturer par map. My other 2 none. But, once calibrated, I am getting very consistent readings around the grid with the light that does provide a map. The App is pretty much spot on to the map with the +10% calibration (BTW I do have the UNI T)

Not sure if that helped at all..? Sounds like a great light, and perfect for a 3'x3' grow tent!👍💯✌️
It depends on your led spectrum but if you have more redd it will definently not be 98% accuracy since the app only adds 10% for 660nm
Also if there was a one off price option I would pay that even if it was like 100 bucks or somthin
