While Spartan women had political sway and a higher status and education than women in other Greek city-states, I don’t believe her “nod” was a nod of permission. The messenger had already made several threats and as King, Leonidas knew he could not let them slide or he would lose the respect of his soldiers and people. The look back that he gave her was one of, “I’m about to start a war.”. Her nod (a nod upward and not downward as downward is synonymous with giving permission) was her recognizing and saying, “Sparta is with you.” It was a nod of acknowledgment and reassurance. Not permission.

Messenger: "Choose your next words carefully - they may be your last as king."
    Leonidas: "You sure about that"

Well he did die for it. So it basically was his last words as it led to his death.

I kind of like how the sound effect of a big cat's snarl accompanying the King's sword being unsheathed - has anyone noticed that?

I've noticed that since the first time I watched this film. And I'm pretty sure that's specifically meant to be a lion's snarl, seeing as Leonidas's name means "Born Of Lion's Stock".

It’s actually more common than you would think. Recently, when Blade enters the scene in the new Deadpool movie, it’s accompanied by a roar as well

I don't think the Spartans were the only ones who threw Persian messengers down wells back then.

True but messengers should also watch their tongues or they become a hashtag.

Apparently this was the at the end of heaps of takes, and butler asked if he could try something different. The crew actually laughed but they used it anyway...

      Butler: "Was that too much?"
Snyder: "Yes, but we're using it."

Lmao... I forgot he called Athenians "Boy Lovers". Meanwhile the actual Spartans made them look like they were exclusively into cougars by comparison. 😂

and yet Themistocles killed the king of Persia. Leonidas couldn't. He missed. I love Leonidas but he should have been more careful than being so full of himself. Now his son gonna grow up without a father. He should have waited for the spartan army

Persians should have done their research 😂

The Persian war machine boasted over 300 thousand men (largely made up of forced slaves from other conquered lands) and was the largest empire the world (recorded at least) had seen up to that point. Sparta fielded about 7000 men total. The Persian messenger felt untouchable and superior as he served a God King. Leonidas killing him was such a bold move and he likely knew he would die.

Not sure if you all know , but Xerxes is mentioned in the old testament The Book of Ester , in which hes portrayed as a good and kindly king...which most of history says otherwise...as a read ( there is also a decent movie version ) its fairly entertaining...and this recommendation is from a completely non-religious person
