I love that Detroit diesel sticker. Had hats and stuff with that on it around as a kid, my dad sold parts for penske in grand rapids area in the 80s and early 90s
Not only is that badass if that's a crew cab four-wheel drive dually old square body Chevy, I love the aggressive old style tires and the Detroit under the hood. What an awesome build......

Now add a Jake, and when the neighbors keep you up until 3am with a wild party, you can retaliate at 3:30 by running past their place on the governor one direction, and hit the Jake going the other way.
Back in the early 80's I worked for Detroit Diesel. We had a corporate magazine that came out with a guy that had done this exact thing back then. He had a 5 speed with an overdrive from a 2 ton truck behind his 6V53T. There was a picture of him pulling a long camper with a jeep hooked to the camper and a boat hooked to the jeep. He was going up a pretty steep hill with no problem.
When I went to diesel school in 1985, we worked on a lot of Detroits, they are by far the best sounding diesels I have ever seen. I would LOVE to have a square body with a Detroit diesel.
I have a 78 ford f350 that the original owner removed the gas engine and installed a 4-53T with an Alison 545 transmission. He had a forklift business in Modesto California and wanted something small with a lot of umph. I don't know If I'm ever going to get back to it but it was a pretty cool truck
That engine must be pretty fresh to start that easily on a cool fall day. It was turning so slow it didn’t sound like there was one more revolution left in the battery. I recognize the hot water adapter pipe for the radiator. I have the exact same thing in a ‘75 LN-800! That is one hell of a motor. All the power you need in a dump truck.
No DPF/smog stuff to try to delete and tune out, she's off the grid! Oh, and no "limp mode" when one of the many sensors quit, so one can drive just far enough to the nearest dealer where ya can throw money at them. Yes, beautiful!
I love this truck , what a BEAST ,i love the square body chevy trucks I have this same engine in a 1973 jeep wagoneer ,, the thing is a TANK with 35 inch tires and 455 gears it'll climb a mountain although my 6V-53 is the twin turbo silver series all my stuff is hidden under the hood
I remember back in the 60's you could special order a GM truck with a 3-53 Detroit Diesel. Up until '64 there was a Toro Flow V6 diesel. Also an option for propane power.
Can you get some more videos on that truck? Very awesome truck would like to learn more about it see more videos on it. Maybe a video explaining the build?
23 stroke chevy.Oh bvut the 427 and 454 2 stroke they had back then. All, mechanical oil injection pumps. i had a 69 caddy coupe deville 2 stroke 472 and ran nothing but pennzoil synesthetic TCW3, both fill and premix! i was at 50:1. A 472 was like a big sled motor1 Sounded a lot like my first sled with a CCW 4401 Now i got a modern 8v92 silver 2 stroke ans small block gasser v8 2 stroke which are on XD-100 BRP. My rotary on amsoil dominator synthetic 2 stroke oil!
I had a 6V53 run away in the shop even with vise grips on the rack! Came in with "won't idle" and found later someone tampered with the governor's air gap mechanism by putting a wheel bearing roller in place to make it run. This in going back 35 yrs. I immediately pulled the E- stop plate, still climbing, screaming! Then threw my winter coat in the intake, now its filling the 18 bay shop with so much smoke you couldn't see 2 ft.What fin!lly stopped it? The shop forman emptied a CO2 fire extinguisher into the intake.I won the asshole of the week that day. Someone made a joke saying "man you should open a home for runaway Detroits!."
HaHaHa!!!! LOVEEEEE that sound!!! Im not even a diesel guy but there is just something about the sound of a Detroit!! Can pick it out with eyes closed!

Did they make an Aluminum block 3-53 for marine applications ?
This truck has so much balls, it’s bulging from the hood.

Yea that’s funny s**t there!!!

You would be better off using the 6v92 for that haul.

Only thing I think could make it better would be a hood scoop to hide the turbo out the hood
Lmao with the “real trucks” comments. You could never buy this truck with that engine from the factory.
One of the best swaps I’ve seen. These should’ve came with that engine.
And Jake heads!

All shes missing is a color matched cowl hood to hide the turbo😉
About to comment this but figured I'd check the comments first.
A mild cowl hood, nothing extreme, just something to hide it
