I think a good rule of thumb is fat grip face balanced putter, thin grip toe hang putter. I just believe you loose a lot of feel and balance with the fatter lighter grips regardless of counter balance modifications. Or to each their own.
Changed my ping putting grip for a superstore 2 grip had that for about a year. Just😢 purchased the ping pp58 mid size grip and had by best putting round in a long g time .
More recently I have seen much longer grips are being used by some. Perhaps to act as a counterbalance to raise the balance point and feel. Also the weight of certain grips can be quite heavy and this also changes the feel of a putter dramatically. But I don't really know why some golfers like these or if they have any advantage.
Longer grips have become increasingly popular for “Arm-lock” style putting. When the golfer runs there arm along the length of the grip as to prevent it from being active in the stroke. Aside from the arm lock style, a big draw for a longer grip is weight distribution.
I am trying to decide 2Thumb OG Lite Black Putter Grip 31, or SuperStroke Traxion Tour XL+Plus™ Golf Putter Grip, White/Red/Gray (Tour XL 2.0) I have ping putter. thanks for any feedback
Hey man, this was just the video I was looking for. I just bought an odyssey blade putter with stroke lab which came with their oversized grip and I just can’t roll the ball on line with it. I see you’ve changed to a thinner grip on yours, does it interfere with the counterbalance? Did you leave the weight inside the shaft? Thanks
Personally, I’ve found it gives me better feel over the club and with Odyssey Putters the balance has felt great for me. I’ve always used Odyssey’s and I kept all weights standard with grip changes.
Scratch Golf Tips thank you for your reply. Only today I put on an Iomic pistol grip and I find it so much easier to to roll it on the line. Feel is so much better too. Your video really helped me decided to switch
Very Interesting on the stable hands with fat style. My Scotty phantom 11 came with pistorol grip. I may change out with the Scotty jumbo foam. My hands do not feel stable sometimes. How many rounds should the orig pistorol grip last? Great review!!!
I teach golf for a living. The thin grip vs thick grip is PERFECTLY explained in this video. Very well done
Thank you very much!
With my Scotty X5 2022…..I switch the pistol grip to a Lamkin straight ( weight approx the same ) but a real positive difference.

I have been going through some grip changes. Great video and very informative.
Happy you enjoyed it, good luck with the grip changes!

I really like the real leather grip master mid grips. Most premium grip I’ve ever used cost the same as the SuperStroke grips.
This is exactly what I was looking for
Great, hope you learned something! Thanks for watching.
