I don't know anyone who can afford a Ferrari or Bugatti here. Of course I just don't have rich friends. The engine in the Mustang Super Snake, and GT500 is the same 5.0Lt Coyote that is in the base Mustang GT. The upgraded models have a LOT of other upgrades in breaks, suspension and the tuned superchargers. But you could order a standard GT with a Roush supercharger that was factory warrantied for about $25K (on top of the price of the car). Which would bring the car up to ~750HP and cost about $65K total. Unbelievable value for the power they put out. A friend of mine has one (that he got used for a STEAL because it had it's cats removed and was therefor no longer emissions legal) that runs an 8 second 1/4 on the drag strip. It will put most supercars to shame, but looks like nothing out of the ordinary when it doesn't have it's drag wheels on.

When my ‘95 Mustang was dying a slow death and taking my wallet with it, I replaced it with a 2007 black on black on black Mustang convertible. Nothing too fancy, just the 3.8 list engine bug it had the Pony package so the fog lights, bullet wheels and upgraded sound system. God I loved that car on sunny days, and without the weight of the roof it could really move, and it handled corners like it was on rails, even with stock Pirelli tires. My point is if you can get an exotic because of price or availability and you come in June and are not in Arizona or Texas where it gets too hot for it, consider a convertible, preferably a Mustang or Camaro SS convertible. You won’t regret it as both have more than enough engine and even driving slowly they make you feel cool.

What’s interesting is that the muscle cars that survived to today like the Mustang, Trans Am, Camaro, Challenger (except for the Charger) were all considered Pony Cars when they were first developed. They were designed to be smaller and lighter than muscle cars. Pony cars were designed to race on a road track where as muscle cars were heavier and had larger engines and weren’t meant to race on any track that wasn’t a drag strip or oval.

Im just saying you don’t have to go the WHOLE Roush treatment. When I got my new 435 hp Mustang GT Premium in 2015, it was SO GOOD! I just felt like it needed just a smidge more power… like maybe 475, and it wouldve been perfect. That car died in a house fire, in Jan 2017, so with the insurance money I got another new Mustang, this time with the Roush supercharger. Just the ‘charger, and Roush axle-back exhaust, on an otherwise dead stock Mustang GT Premium California Special. Grand total, incl taxes and shipping, a 670hp Mustang for $62k. And I am SO GLAD I did it!
Id have gotten a GT350, with 526hp, but dealers had prices jacked up over $80k. Plus I like a little more comfort and driver amenities. No thanks. A full on Roush Mustang is probably a bit more expensive than the BMW, and the wait time is often well over a year, as things stand.
But for around $10k, or so, on top of the cost of a used or new Mustang GT, you can buy (and have the dealer install) 330ish hp!

Mustangs are so common in America that they're a lot of kids' first car. My first car was a new 1989 Mustang LX 2.3L 4-cyl. Total shit car at the time. Had nothing but problems with the car. Everything from small things like power window/lock switches going bad, to engine and transmission problems. The little 2.3L 4-cyl engine was also massively underpowered. I think it only made like 92 HP. Terrible engine choice for Ford back then. Fortunately for the new 1994 models, they made the base engine a V6. But there's always been a 5.0L V8 available in the base models as well. Now the Shelby's and GT350/500 models have even bigger engines.

As for me I had a 1967 Shelby GT350, and a 1968 Shelby GT500 but had to sell those in 2008 when the stock market crashed as well as the housing market along with the jobs. Had to sell to pay my bills and help my family with theirs too.

My first car in 1999 was a mint 1979 Firebird Formula. My dad got a loan to get it and I made the loan payments. No handouts in this family. I think I had the coolest car in high school. There was only one vehicle at school that was cooler than mine and it was a Hummer H1. The kid’s dad owned Carmike Cinemas. I had some of the best times in my life in that car.

The Ford engine term "coyote" dates back to the 60's. The engine was called "coyote" by Indy car racers. At the time NASCAR racers also used the term "coyote" as a lil sticker that was often used by Ford NASCAR teams. At the time, Chrysler Corp. was running Plymouth Roadrunners in NASCAR. The had licenced "roadrunner" from Warner Brothers who owned the roadrunner cartoons. The Ford NASCAR teams used a lil sticker that had Wiley Coyote grabbing the roadrunner by the neck, which said " beep beep your a** " As you can see the term "coyote" engine (which is actually the code name used for all V8 internally by Ford) has long out lived the Plymouth roadrunner. In a sense"Wiley Coyote" still lives on the automotive world.

Yes, I think the reason for not seeing some of these cars is due to the UK street sizes. These cars need open roads wide corners to perform. Not saying a car enthusiasts might have one but they wouldn’t hardly be able to get it out and drive it on UK streets. That’s why most cars are small in Europe.

Years ago, I was going to DC in my Japanese made car with my SO. On a one way lane road, a corvette was tailgating me. You see, I never take my SO somewhere and it was the first time so I was driving conservatively. Until the road opened up to two lanes, the corvette passed me and my SO then made a comment. Few minutes later, I see all these debris on the road and the corvette on the side of the road, pulled over. As I am passing it, I noticed the tag, its still has the paper tags. The corvette literally fell apart, didn't get into any accident. Thats the quality of American cars.

Depending on where you guys plan on coming, there may be some exotic rental places like in Las Vegas or Los Angeles, but most American rental fleets will likely only offer base trim variants if any at all of the mustang, challenger or Camaro only featuring Turbo 4 or 6 cylinder variants.

European media outlets have long since scoffed at American muscle saying they can't corner, but that's because they'd put a BMW M3 or a C63 AMG against a gut bomb base model 4 cylinder Mustang or the very lowest spec V8. AKA they often _cheated_ to make overpriced Eurotrash look good. In reality they were just jealous you couldn't get over 200HP in Europe without spending $50,000+ when a Mustang GT was a paltry $24k. You didn't even have to buy the overpriced kitted out Saleens or Shelbys where half the upcharge was seats and stupid body kit. Simply add some upgraded shocks, brakes and tires for $3k and you're corning head to head with that M3 that's twice the price. Drop in a $3k supercharger and you'll curb stomp that M3 all over the track.
The beauty of the "muscle" car wasn't just thumpin big obnoxious V8s, but it was about _AFFORDABLE_ performance for the everyday man. Sadly with today's Bidenomics no one can afford shit anymore.
And all this is when I'm a 3x Mercedes owner. Luxury is where America sucks.

That's awesome ya'll are coming! June will be proper hot though so bring shorts! :D And yes, renting those should be no problem, but I would check rental agencies for availability. Being British is not the obstacle, most rental companies don't have those cars in their fleets. Mustang GT should be available in some fleets and other muscle cars. They don't have the super high end things typically like Shelby, Demon, or Hellcats.

Actually guys, you DO see these all the time. I live near the 3rd largest city in a pretty small state (Tennessee). I know of 6 GT500 mustangs off the top of my head. You can’t drive down the road without seeing a mustang GT, it’s impossible. That’s because it’s kind of known as a college girls car.
I’m 51, so I’ve been around a day or two. When I started driving in 88’ all of us had either muscle cars or low rider mini trucks. I’m a bit more country so I had a 74’ Camaro Z28. There were convertible 67 firebird, 3 x 1st gen Camaros, maybe ~ 15 5.0 mustangs. ~ 20 3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds.
As far as renting them, yes you can rent and drive anything. From small and cheap all the way to Lambos and more. It’s up to where you’re shopping and how much money you want to spend. If you want, you can go to race tracks and “rent” and train in race cars. Things like the Petty racing experience where you can turn laps in a NASCAR at 150 mph. There’s road racing schools where you can do that, I think the Bondurant school is one. There’s also drag racing schools or rally schools. If you want to do any of that, you’re going to need to schedule it in advance.
If Mustangs are all you have…I’m sorry! Stay off the roads where they are, no matter what. Mustangs are know for one thing. That’s getting all “Mustangy”. They are really good, good at wrecking! The new Mustangs are better, but still well know for it.
The Dodge cars are popular, because they’re cheap. But, they are NOT reliable, and do not last at all. The resell value is worse than the Mustang is too. Ironically, back in the early 70’s, my Grandmother had a Demon lol. Dodge / Plymouth / Chrysler cars always handle middle of the road to bad. Partly because of the suspension, but mostly because of their weight. They are always heavier than the Chevy or Ford competitors. That’s why they had to make more power, which pushed the engine harder, which made them not last as long.
The Chevy Camaros are the way to go. People will have a lot to say about that, but it’s true. From handling, to braking, to traction, to power, to potential power, and parts available, the Camaro is the best.
The C8 Corvette is in an entirely different league. It is a legit super car, and can out run the prancing pony or the pissed off bull.
What I say next is not just because I’m a Chevy guy. It’s true and the Ford and Dodge guys will tell you the same. Dollar for dollar, a Chevy is easier and cheaper to get more power out of. It’s NOT because Chevy makes better engines! It’s because Chevy embraced, and was embraced by, the aftermarket community earlier and in a bigger way. There are WAY more options on hop up parts, more companies make them, and therefore the parts cost less. It was true in the 60’s and it’s still that way today. Back in the 60’s - 90’s, the SBC (Small Block Chevy) or the BBC, no not that, (Big Block Chevy), you could find the parts anywhere no matter what. They were the go to engines if you were building something. Now days it’s the “LS”. That’s an engine line GM (Chevy, GMC, Cadillac) used in almost anything the engine would fit in. From trucks, SUVs to cars. That’s why there’s so many of them and why the parts are cheap and everywhere. My dad used to say, if you ever break down while driving a SBC, just walk down the road, you’ll find the part laying somewhere lol. He’s still pretty much right about that. The LS has been swapped into everything, all types of cars, boats, even airplanes. To give you an example of what one can do with an LS… people will buy one from the junkyard for ~ $1000. They usually want the 5.3 or 6.0 liter engines, but the smallest 4.8 can still do this. So take that engine, swap the cam, put on better heads, new larger injectors, take the pistons out and gap the rings so the incoming new boost won’t break a piston from ring pinch, then buy the cheap Chinese turbos, and finally reprogram the computer and fine tune. This is NO work on the bottom end mind you, it’s stock and worn bearings, rods, pistons, all stock! The 5.3 in stock for is ~ 350hp depending on the variant, the 6.0 is ~ 400hp, the 4.8 is ~ 300. Anyway, they have taken those and got the following results….4.8 ~ 1,300hp, 5.3 ~ 1,500, and the 6.0 ~ 1,650. This is on race fuel mind you. This is pushing them to the edge. But, again all stock and worn bottom end. They all say it would do it reliably with better parts. The stock form can be reliably be pushed to ~1,000hp and then daily driven and weekly raced. I’m not just making it up, these cases are documented and available on UA-cam to see if you want. There’s even events called LS Fest. It’s any and all things LS based or swapped. So you’ll see plenty of GM products, but you’ll see Toyotas, Nissans, Jags, Italian super cars , and yes VWs, old delivery vans, you name it.

Being born in 1960, I was around before the Mustang or Camaro even existed. I was also around before Hot Wheels toy cars existed. Damn, I'm old, but I digress. The original ''muscle car'' was a mid size body with a large, full size body engine installed. The first one that ever existed was a 1962 Pontiac Gran Prix with a Catalina engine under the hood. When the Mustang and Camaro came about, the moniker, "pony car'' (given the fact that the Mustang came out first) was what they fell under. With all the changes that have taken place over the last half century plus, the term ''muscle car'' has taken on new meaning.

    This may run the risk of coming across wrong, but keep in mind this is just my personal preference;
I myself have always though that American muscle cars are cooler than German cars. Never been a huge fan of Porsche, Mercedes, or - in particular - BMW. Not really anything wrong with them as long as they're properly taken care of (like anything else). I am capable of appreciating Porsche, but Mercedes annoys me and I genuinely dislike BMW. Driven a few Beemers, and I was just as unhappy in those as I was inside of a Camry when I was renting one not too long ago lol
