    I bought a fixie and started racing alleycats about 4 or 5 years ago after watching line of sight. An alleycat was my first bicycle race and I soon got into mountain biking, cyclocross, and gravel racing and soon fell out of it and fell in love with bike touring and going on crazy adventures in the mountains. This summer I rode my cinelli gravel bike across america from New York to California and down the coast, taking the road less traveled and the most adventurous way possible. A video of me skitching a car going thru Minnesota went viral on tic toc! I am so grateful that I found your videos Lucas and I want you know how greatly you have impacted my life. If it wasn't for your videos I don't know if ever would have gone on adventures like this. You inspire me to inspire other to get on a bike and get sketcky!!!! Thank you!!!!

      I read an article touched on oxygen flow to big muscles vs small and the effects of high cadence. If you can go x speed at 60 that could actually make more sense than 80. Im no pro but speed comes from big rings easier than rpms.

    This is great! 51 years old and I’m still riding in all weather and traffic. I still think that people r losing survival skills and r so codependent. Riding in heavy traffic really improves reflexes and sense of awareness. Cyclist see everything around them and see things happen before they happen. Where as a person that’s been driving all their life only sees what’in front of them. And plus when I ride I always feel like I’m being chased!!!

    Last year I wished for bike paths, but I came to the realization that I hate them because people ride their bikes on them so slow, they are almost falling asleep (Bucharest has 2, maybe 3 proper legal bike paths and things aren't going to change any time sooner) and, even though you are technically safer, you can't ride that fast because you may hit some pedestrian that is crossing the street or someone that is trying to overtake and won't look back to check if it's clear. The road is the best teacher and you can go as fast as you can and I love that adrenaline rush! Looking forward for your videos, I have so much to learn from you and I am truly grateful that you are doing this.

    Finding your videos last year made me ride around the city in 2020 instead of my usual cornfield squares. It’s was a year of novel experiences, had a blast, and I have a lot more confidence around cars from 2020 than I did since I picked up a bike. Rural traffic isn’t the same, and doesn’t build attention skills. I haven’t grabbed a car but your videos have inspired my adventures.

    I've been loving what you do since pre youtube.. I remember watching your alleycat videos, SF and NYC and others, when I was laid out with a broken back after a failed bike jump (landing) luckily i recovered fully and got back at it. That was a long time ago but watching your stuff made such an impact on me. I didn't know very many riders, even roadies that really love urban riding. It is the best way to experience a new city. the poetry and flow and ever changing environment is like some hyper reality video game. Damn right Dopamine!! Watching the videos and rocking out the Def Leapord (or whichever song goes with the video) is a fix in itself. I was into your videos anyway but they were especially great keeping my psyche up during my recovery. And those videos really showed me what is possible, and how finding your own ride is art. Both doing it and experiencing it. I'm so grateful that you share these beautiful fluid moments with the world. :)

    Great talk! I really needed this. This got me to think back to what got me started riding and compare to today.
    I found that over the years as I progressed in distance and speed it became more of a goal to reach the level of other
    fast riders and for that it became more like work than something I enjoy. Because of this i got bored and would skip
    much of a year even whole years at a time.
    Just a little bio for fun.
    In the beginning I started by biking to/from work. 32 miles round trip. I would ride with my backpack full of clothes, stuff to clean up with and food. It was something I looked forward to get me to work and the ride home what another thing I would look forward to. Also I loved the route. It was all hills along 25A of the north shore of Long Island. In the beginning I dreaded the hills. It eventually became what I really enjoy and prefer. I love hammering over hills! It is such a dopamine rush to get home only 15 minutes after then if I drove my car (35min by car 50min by bike.) It was a dopamine rush when I hammered past someone that had spend a half years pay on their bike and gear while I was wearing a regular tshirt bike shorts and a heavy backpack. I loved how I would pass cars in rush hour traffic. I loved how the hills seemed to get smaller over time as I seemingly effortlessly would power over them and with the extra speed going over the top would equate to faster speed over the next. Part of the route I take is an area where its known to local bikers called the Seven Sisters. They are constant hills with no shoulder and high rush hour traffic. So part of the fun is to make it over as many hills as possible before the next car catches you. I no longer work at that job so I will have to come up with other routes but I really need to get off my ass and get back to this.
    It's not as interesting as Lucas's rides but it's what I enjoy!
    One of these days I have to make it to Manhattan for a ride!
    Thanks Lucas! Live fast die last brother!

    • @lucasbrunelle
      @lucasbrunelle  3 роки тому +1

      First off - ride with what's best for you. Clipless pedals have two advantages, one is that you can jump the bike higher with them and two is that you can pull up more on your pedal stroke to be more efficient. But I know many riders fast as hell who don't have clipless pedals

    Translation: The "Zone".
    For me, there's nothing like flying down a congested street and picking out lanes 40 feet in front of you. You're almost riding ahead of your body & bike. By the time you physically arrive where you're looking, you're already looking 40 feet ahead of you for the next cut.
