  • Want to add a little modification to your exhaust without breaking the bank? Here's a $20 option you can complete in about 20 minutes. It's not on par with an aftermarket, but it does upgrade the "sewing machine" that came from the factory.

    Great tip, just drilled 7 holes and I'll probably need to close 1 or 2, simply amazing the sound

    And here I was shopping for a cheap chineese slip on exhaust.... the biggest reason for me not drilling the exhaust was that there was no going back after doing it. I'm a little bit mad at myself for not thinking of using a tapper. Also thanks for your service.

      I was actually thinking the same. Cut just after the sensor and weld on a link pipe and then get a cheap slim exhaust on there. 👌🏾

    So are you just making a hole through the first layer? Not going into the second layer when drilling?

    • @colocruiser3239

      Exactly. If you do happen to go through, it's not the end of the world, but try not to.

    My ten cents! I would weld a nut in the exhaust, spray some high temp paint and remove the bolt for louder exhaust and put it back for the regular one.

      @@colocruiser3239 I will do this modification soon and post a video. I do not weld as well, but I'll find some welder to do it for me. I guess that will be pretty easy and cheap. The idea is to make a one inch hole, weld a big nut over the hole and in case I want the exhaust working silently I have just to screw the bolt and that's all. The bolt will be a one inch wide and one inch long.

    Just put a few holes in my and I love the sound. This was big time helpful thanks! Quick question though did you spray the high heat paint on just the outside or did you spray it in the holes too? Especially if you left the holes unplugged

    • @colocruiser3239
      @colocruiser3239  4 роки тому +1

      Spray the paint into the hole, a little. I would also suggest you spray the inside of the heat shield to avoid having the heat coming from the holes created "dots" on the outside of the shield.

    I love the sound of 3 holes. Can i put the hole facing downward to avoid dots on heat shield? Will it not touch something inside?

    • @colocruiser3239
      @colocruiser3239  4 роки тому +1

      I'm not so sure about that. If nothing else, just spray the inide of the heat shield with a ceramic paint. That should prevent the heat transfer from forming those dots.

    My question is if these drill mods make any difference in the 'jumpy' throttle in low gears or if it mitigates the substantial engine braking at speed?

    • @colocruiser3239
      @colocruiser3239  4 роки тому +1

      The engine braking didn't suffer at all and I didn't notice any difference in the throttle response. The holes are behind all of the sensors on the exhaust so it would reason to believe neither of those things should be impacted. And, if nothing else, just put a bolt in them to close the holes up and carry on.
      On another note...I did trade this bike in about a month ago and had no issues/questions from the dealer in the process.

    • @dadoleyna
      @dadoleyna 4 роки тому

      @@colocruiser3239 Thanks for the reply. I had expected you to say that the throttle response at low speeds was unaffected. I was cautiously hopeful that having more room to vent the exhaust gas might drop the back-pressure and mitigate the harsh engine braking. Then again, any increase in air flow is going to run the bike even leaner and hotter.......

      @@dadoleyna look into buying "the Booster Plug" well worth the money. Cut engine braking down alot and throttle is a lot smoother.

    Great Video thanks for posting it, do you have to worry about drilling into the baffle when you are drilling the holes, or did you remove it before drilling? Thanks

      You are correct. I picked up a 3M carbon vinyl and wrapped all the metal covers. I had it on the bike for about 2 years before I traded it in and it was still looking great at the time.

      Just make sure you don't drill into the catalytic converter and you should be fine. Honestly, not sure the placement of the holes will make a noticeable difference.

    • @colocruiser3239
      @colocruiser3239  4 роки тому +2

      I bought the set at a Lowe's. As for depth, you'll feel it when you drill. There's basically two layers of metal you'll drill through, two thin layers. Once you're through those you hit a cavity where the catalytic converter sits.
