  • Short, completely non technical tutorial on de-ristricting the Vulcan S 650 including basic info on removing the throttle stop.
    Throttle stop was recorded before I decided to do a proper tutorial so apologies for the lack of info in regards to that.
    For the record, I have since found out that there s a hex key/allen key under the left side panel that is removed with your bike key that you can use to remove the seat and access the tools.

    This is a great Vid. Simple, clear and fun. Thanks and well done guys.
    It so inspired me, I've now applied to your Facebook group... and I haven't even bought the bike yet!! (Hope to in the next month or so)
    Just one 'nit picky' point. The 'electrical tape' you refer to, and use, is actually air conditioning duct tape.
    It's notoriously 'not sticky' and falls to bits/flakes off. Real electrical tape is that thinner roll stretchy stuff that comes in lotsa pretty colours.
    As this bare plug end is a vital part of the (remaining) electrical system, I would use the good tape, and maybe even squirt a 'plug' of household silicon in there, and then securely tape over that to keep water out. The 'plug' could be gently flicked out with a small screw driver if the bike ever needed to be 'Re-Lammed'. From past (bad) experience, you don't want water/moisture getting into a bike's electrical system... Neva Eva!
    Anyway thanks again for a cool and very useful vid.
    Cheers Mark - Adelaide, Australia

    There is also an allen key under the left side keyed panel, which you can use to remove the seat to get to the other tools. So you dont actually have to carry an extra allen key around with you.

    Thank you very much for the video. Here in Spain the Vulcan S is restricted identically the same as in Australia so this video fits my needs greatly. I will unrestrict mine when I get used to the bike and get more confidence is riding. Here in Spain the Highway police are very familiar with bikers and what tricks we use so I rather not get in trouble at the beginning.

    Question... I had a friend try to follow these instructions on my vulcan 650 s 2016 last night but he had trouble removing the throttle restrictor. I did some further reading on a forum that said once you remove it you can't put it back. Is this correct? I'd like to be able to add it back to resell it as a legitimate legal LAMS bike if I take it out. Anyone had any experience with this?

    after some mile drive my front brake start griping my front wheel and it jammed my wheel after few steps.
    My mechanic tried to clean the brake piston and greasing it but still this issue raising to me.
    whenever i experience this issue, i bleed the front caliper from nozzle to reduce the pressure so it made my wheel free to drive again.
    it happens every after 10 to 15 miles. nowadays, i am keeping 10nos ring key in my pocket for releasing the pressure of front brake.
    Please suggest what should i do to make it okay.

    • @IRQ1Conflict
      @IRQ1Conflict 7 років тому +2

      Nope. Nor should there be. If someone wants to learn to ride a bike they should have full power on tap when needed. I shudder to think what could happen at speed and a new rider needs a little throttle to get out of harms way and it just isn't there because "safety". A new rider shouldn't be on a super sport or litre bike to be sure but neutering a 50HP bike is not wise. Not wise at all. It isn't the power that new riders need to be wary of, it's the brakes and controls. The truth is, if your new rider is going to be irresponsible on a full powered bike he/she is going to be irresponsible on a neutered bike. One that can get you into trouble but doesn't have what it takes to get you out. Focus (pun intended) on real concerns like target fixation.

    Hey thanks for the video ! Awesome. I am about to pull the trigger on a 2019 Vulcan S Cafe. Do you / somebody know if the procedure to unrestrict is still the same ? @hawat1 5 років тому

      Hello, I got the bike now and can confirm that the un-restrict procedure for the 2019 model is exactly the same as shown in the video. Removal of the plug increases the engine output from 48 HP to 61 HP and removal of the throttle stop give you more acceleration and top speed. Still breaking in the bike so I am not reving it too high atm.

      @@badapple65 I am in Australia. Of course the HP restriction would be done by the ECU. Its just reading if two contacts are closed or open (plug installed or removed) and regulates fuel injection accordingly. I think the bikes are not restricted in the U.S. Only reason why the bikes are restricted in Australia is the learners license scheme (LAMS) which restricts the power / weight ratio for riders with learners licenses.

    Thinking of getting a used 2017 Vulcan S. Do you think it would be comfortable for a 6'1" rider?

    • @ericmac1976
      @ericmac1976 6 років тому

      Thomas R. Smith as long as you get the extended set up. Mid reach to me as i am 6 ft is a bit.knee bent maybe if i would have got the controls extended may have felt a bit bigger

    • @MonstaFreak13
      @MonstaFreak13 6 років тому +1

      the standard bar with the standard seat are fine but i definitely recommend getting the extended reach shifter rod so you can put the foot controls as far forward as you can.. if you buy it from an ergo-fit participating dealer then just go with the extended reach set up all around. im 6'3" and got my bike used from a vertically challenged owner which had the reduced reach setup. i still rode it for a couple weeks til the parts came in and it felt like my rebel 250 lol.. the extended reach seat was $220 so i went with a barely used standard fit seat from ebay, standard bars, and extended shift rod.. amazing difference

      I just got one about a month ago. I'm 6'2" so I know your struggle. The bike feels great stock with no adjustments. Although I do plan to extend it out all the way later on just because it may make it even more comfortable.

    just to be sure your bike was limted due to licence restrictions before you changed it?

    • @AliS-tw4bu
      @AliS-tw4bu  7 років тому +1

      menachem nathanson in Australia learners and provisional (newly licenced) riders are not allowed to ride anything more than 660cc with a power to weight ratio restriction (150kw per tonne). all Vulcan S imported to Australia come with these restrictions to enable the dealer the ability to sell to all riders. it is my understanding though that in countries where no licence restrictions apply, the bike does not come with these power restrictions in place.

      unfortunately you cant do this trick on your Vulcan. Newer Vulcan only can derestrict through computer so you should go to your mechanic

    • @badapple65
      @badapple65 5 років тому

      Double Espresso_ oooh! Mechanic needs to “Flash” the computer then. I think that’s the term I’ve heard. I wonder though if the throttle restriction part is computerized too? I’ll have to have a look to see if there’s a simple physical bolt to remove. I’m guessing probably not if now computer regulated.

      Mine is from 2017 and it looked exactly like that. Not sure that helps but I'd be surprised if they had made such changes short term, seeing as the bike came in production in 2015.

    • @AliS-tw4bu
      @AliS-tw4bu  7 років тому

      Marc D T do you have any accesories like gear indicator or power adaptor? some people are noticing that the accesories are connected where the loop wire would be. Depending on how the connection was done they may have maintained the restriction or not bothered to keep it. not sure how you would find out.

    Hi Alison
    From the video, you remove the cap with the wire on it, but then tape it up to stop it from being wet.
    Wouldn't it be better just to "cut" the wire as it is seemingly connecting the diagonal points ?
    Or at least insulate the connectors and put the cover back on ...

    • @AliS-tw4bu
      @AliS-tw4bu  7 років тому +1

      Of course that would be better but I wanted to make it quick to both find and reconnect for resale purposes.
