Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried, you will always be remembered as my two favorite comedic actors both in live-action and animated movies.
I did like both of them, and still like their
movies and most characters, and other
than hearing Iago sing in Return of Jafar
(sorry G G, but it's like scratching a
chalkboard) most of his lines were
pretty funny in the whole trilogy-
direct to video sequels, or not)
While Robin Williams was almost
impossible to imitate, Homer
Simpson's voice actor made a valiant
effort. Honestly what annoyed me
most with 'Jafar's Return' was the very
poor animation in comparison to the
first one and 'King of Thieves '
@@tonyb0904 The very idea of putting Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried together in the same film is so weird, because they could not be anymore different😳.
Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried are my boats favorite actors they will be missed 😇🙏💕

RIP, Gilbert Gottfried and Robin Williams. They played the funniest characters in animated film history.
It’s sooo sad that they’re gone😔
Iago and genie got even lore funny moments inthe aladdin the animated series
Rip Gilbert gottfried and Robin Williams Genie and Iago forever LOL
@@chheinrich8486 the Genie is way funnier in the movie.

"Is that my voice? Is that MY VOICE?!
... oh well..."
I loved Yzma Kitty. Knowing this line was improvised makes it funnier!
I also loved ertha kitt as yzma kitty as well so well done so lol
Knowing it was not in the script makes me laugh harder now! 😂😂😂
I didn’t know that at all. So funny to know
Knowing such a line was improvised, I get the feeling that she was going for something specific with the voice, but it wound up coming out entirely different from what she planned.
Rest in piece Eartha Kitt, Robin Williams, and Gilbert Gottfried :(
Eartha Kitt had a long and varied career, and like so many others deserves to be remembered. Rest In Peace, funny voice kitty.
Truly a legend
I heard that she had a memorable fling with the heir of a moist towelette tycoon.
Aww she died? That sucks
Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried were hilarious, decent human beings.
We miss both of them a lot.
6:53 Gilbert Gottfried making Robin Williams laugh is a testament to his comedic talents! Way to go, Gilbert!
You both made me laugh a lot, RIP Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried.
IKR?! I never thought I’d hear such a miraculous thing! Considering Robin Williams was the king of comedy! So yeah, Gilbert Gottfried making him laugh is quite the accomplishment! 😉👍
All of the comedy legends said Gilbert was the single funniest comedian they had ever met from George Carlin to Chris Rock and even Norm Mcdonald
I think most of us here are just sad we lost Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried because they’re so funny and helped make “Aladdin” so iconic.😭
It also doesn’t surprise me “The Emperor’s New Groove” had a lot of improv.😆
John Goodman made an excellent straight man to David Spade.
Emperor's new groove didn't even have a finished script, lol. They just made everything up as they went along.
Probably the earliest example of improv in animation was the tea party scene in Alice In Wonderland. About 75% of the scene was adlibbed by Ed Wynn & Jerry Colonna
And Disney's Atlantis. Don Novello, who played Vinny, improved all his lines, didn't even read the original script.
That's right! I remember that fact. That was when the Mqd Hatter was destroying the White Rabbit's pocket watch. Caused everyone in the room to just laugh uncontrollably.
Clean cup, clean cup! Move down!!
@@AWlpsSHOW36 Including what may be my favorite line in the whole movie: "Mustard?!? Don't let's be silly!" (Of course, I realize it's not nearly as funny out of context.)
@@osmanyousif7849 Another little-known example. Disney agreed to let Phil Harris go off-script and play Baloo the way he felt the character should be, the Baloo we see onscreen is very different than what was originally written in the script. He improved the line "You gotta keep circling or I'll knock your roof in again", and it totally changed the character
When 'The Rescuers' came out, there was a publicity article that mentioned that Miss Bianca's hat was based on the one that Eva Gabor was wearing when she came in for a recording session. I imagine that this sort of thing happens far more often than we realize. Not an 'unscripted moment', of course, but an alteration to the final product based on a real-life production moment.
That happened a lot whenever Mark Hamill would play as The Joker in Batman the Animated Series. Joker's gestures and facial animations were based on Hamill's as he was performing the lines.
My favorite ad-lib is in Disney's 2019 Frozen Ii when Olaf is looking for his friends saying, Anna? "Elsa? Sven? ... Samantha? Olaf starts laughing and says, "I don't even know a Samantha!" ☃🤣😂
Tim Allen modified his “sad, strange little man” line from _Toy Story_ in _The Santa Clause 2._ I’m not sure if that was scripted or not, but it seems fitting.
Other way around. Santa Clause 2 came out in 2006.
@@CrookiNari I know.
I always thought that Yzma's line when she got turned into the kitten sounded a bit like breaking the 4th wall. Now it makes sense. Hard to pin down an exact scene that was my favorite or the funniest.
I’m just guessing, but Eddie Murphy’s line as Donkey in Shrek, “I’m comin’ Elizabeth!” , was probably ad-libbed …and priceless for older listeners as there’s little chance any kid got that joke….(or adult under 45) 😏
I was probably in either 10th or 11th grade when that movie came out and a "friend" (honestly, she turned out to be a terrible friend) knew I was going to catch that reference because I had actually gotten into watching Sanford and Son on TV Land. Sure enough, I caught it and burst out laughing.
I don't remember that, is that from the first Shrek? :)
@@grimTales1 Shrek 2….just when they were about to pass out in the barn after the potion…
@@anjenue4894 Thanks!
It makes you wonder if his "Waffles line" was ad-libbed too. And of course I bet he improvised playing Mushu in Mulan.
RIP Gilbert Gottfried & Robin Williams.. The both of you made our childhoods so much fun
RIP
RIP to masters of the craft: Robin Williams, Gilbert Gottfried, and David Ogden Stiers. All tremendous actors that left us far too soon.
I’m with you there
I clicked as soon as i saw Glibert Gottfried in the thumbnail! his and Robin Williams performances as Iago and the Genie are the absolute greatest and most hilarious moments in animation history, may both Gilbert and Robin rest in peace!
And i'm glad other voice actors were mentioned on this list especially other deceased ones like Earth Kitt!
R.I.P Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried, 2 of the funniest men ever
Rip
With 2 of the funniest voices ever.
Unlike film where unscripted moments hardly change making your movie, animated films make you completely animate or reanimate something due to the completely random line said. Hints why Aladdin is one of my favorite animated movies ever. It has just enough humor and adventure to make it stand out. And now the 2 funniest of that movie are sharing there history together over the clouds
Here's a few you didn't include:
. "Teenages they think they own everything"- Samuel E. Wright as Sebastian from The Little Mermaid
. Michael Pena's lines as Grubber in My Little Pony: The Movie (2017)
."I didn't even eat carrots" Michael J. Fox in Atlantis The Lost Empire (2001)
.Nearly everything Hades says- James Woods in Hercules (1997)
I remember those!!!
One correction: it’s “Teenagers, they think they know everything.”
James Woods' tryout for the role was the best. Everyone else was going for booming and grandiose but James did Hades like a vacuum cleaner salesman.
@@mmeers89 And it works so well because Hades is basically the greek version of the devil who has a long storied history of trying to get people to hand over their souls for false promises. You know... like an ordinary salesman.
No wonder why I liked Grubber in the 2017 film
R.I.P Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried
RIP
What a surprise that an underrated Dreamworks movie made #1 over all of the best of the best from both Dreamworks AND Disney.
Kudos to “The Road to El Dorado.”
Full props.
I know right?!!
Absolute classic. I can never get enough of El Dorado nor Prince of Egypt for that matter!
My favorite quote is that meme-able one: Miguel: "Both?" Tulio: "Both?" (together) "Both." Miguel: "Both is good."
Rest in Peace
Gilbert Gottfried 😔
Road to El Dorado is such an underrated gem.
I know right?!
"The emperor's new groove" an underrated flick? Not for me. It is one of my favorite Disney films and can't get enough of it. I think I have watched it about 15 times by now.
Its one of my favorites too. I've seen it multiple times as well.
Same here! Definitely in my top 5 movies.
It's pretty much a cult film Disney never intended to make, because they left the production team alone. Like there was almost no studio oversight and the company has never been quite sure how to deal with it, because it is a massive departure from their typical formula. So its underrated in terms of the fact that Disney doesn't go out of their way to advertise it (though they acknowledge it far more than The Black Cauldron)
Yeah, I was surprised to hear them say that. I thought everyone loved The Emperor's New Groove. (I just thought of David Spade's "bring It on" right before they went over the waterfall and I will sleep smiling. ☺️)
@@hydellas678 I watched that movie countless times as a child.
I still remember when Robin Williams passed...in Italy they were doing a marathon of some of his movies as a tribute to him. It's ashame he was suffering with Lewy Body Dementia :/. Also RIP to Gilbert Gottfried too, he was hilarious, and his voice made a lot of people laugh, and his performance at Iago still makes me laugh till this day.
It'd be nice if dementia didn't exist, but here we are.
I have to say Aladdin (1992) is the best on the list with Robin and Gilbert and it's so cool that they kept Iago's rant that Gilbert made up because it made Robin laugh. To be honest, it makes me laugh too.
RIP to both Robin and Gilbert, who will always be remembered as two of the world's greatest comedians of all time.
I like the honorable mentions of Encanto, Beauty and the Beast, Osmosis Jones and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Treasure Planet deserves its sequel. Disney, we need to see Willem Dafoe as a pirate
"Ya know... I'm something of a pirate myself."
They did have a sequel in mind, which would also lead to a tv series
It really doesn't it was not very good at all.
@@Wolfbane8 Disney killed it with barely any marketing
El Dorado and Emperor’s New Groove are two of my all time favorites. The improv was fabulous in both, and really lends to the humor and “believability” (inasmuch as animation can be believable) in each film. I love finding out that Eartha Kitt improved that voice! Makes it even funnier. :)
And of course Williams and Gottfried. But they are so great it almost goes without saying. And many others here have already said. RIP, you funny men. We miss ya.
honestly some of these made the scenes even better
Rest in peace, Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried. You two will always be remembered. And I bet you two are glad to be reunited and are probably drinking a couple cold ones up there.
I still cannot believe that Gilbert Gottfried passed away.
Me neither 😥
Me neither! He may have been 67, but it was still way too soon, IMO! I’m gonna miss him! 😔🦜🧞♂️🍘
He had dirt on Hillary Clinton
I hate it, too, but to be fair, it's not like he wrecked his Harley during Bike Week-- he was 67 and did a lot of drugs back in the day. He'll be missed, but like Saget, not a huge, earthshaking surprise.
@@MegaKat Saget had his head bashed in, so I'm not sure that's a great example to use.
Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried made this movie without them there is no way it would be as popular as it is
agreed. I think thats why people were so up in arms about Disney making a live action version. it didn't have the actors, nor the charm that made the animation so iconic and memorable.
My personal favorite is "There'll be fire and sword if it's not set right." Emma Thompson ad libbed the line in an argument between Queen Elinor and Merida in Brave. Which I think is great because it informs very early on, the real reason her character was so dissatisfied with her daughter shenannigans. She also helped with a lot of Captain Amelia awesomeness in Treasure Planet.
Hard to believe that two of the funniest actors in one of my favorite Disney movie of all time are gone, both taken from us too soon.
RIP Robin Williams & Gilbert Gottfried, you both will be forever missed.
The sword fight between Miguel and Tulio was almost entirely ad libbed lol I saw a BTS video where the directors were laughing so hard at Kenneth Branagh's use of the word "loquacious". It was really a moment that reflected his Shakespearean training
Jeremy Suarez was a very talented comedic kid actor.
-The Eartha Kitty situation was funny.
-Gilbert saying he lived with a family of parrots for a year
I had no idea the Live Bait scene was improvised! It cracks me up every time.
If Eartha Kitt wasn't acting when she was saying "Is that my voice? [cough] Is that _my_ voice?" was she listening to her modified cat voice in real time, or something?
For some reason I can see Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston in El Dorado.
That would be awesome
I would watch it
At least a Halloween dress up or cosplay, guys 🙏🏻
YES!!!
Tom Huddleston is perfect for the cunning yet embarrassing Tulio... Not sure if Chris Hemsworth can make the cut with te innocent Naïve Himbo Miguel. Looks, he is perfect but tr vibe you get from Hemsworth is not exactly innocent and naive...
To Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried, thank you very much for the Disney memories. Rest in peace.
I second that
In Toy Story, the Mrs. Nesbitt scene when he goes mental still cracks me up! Classic & pure genius! LOL!
Patrick Warburton filed a lawsuit against Disney when they tried to copyright his "Mission Impossible" theme song.
Did it work?
Disney is as insidious as Wal-Mart and McDonald's- they are all trying to rule the world.
@@barbarahecht4617 In Disney's case, I truly believe they are actively trying to take over the world. No joke.
(Spits out drink) WHAT?!!!!!
Where's Megamind on this? There was so much improv in that one! Off the top of my head, the vengeance and how to serve it dialog and "You were right. I was... less right." were improvised.
Here’s the good suggestion: Top 10 Best Iago Moments in the Aladdin franchise.
That would be great. Especially with his lines in the original like the opening scene & of course the various rants 😂
I’d love that
The scene in Aladdin when Jasmine's father shoves a cookie into Iago's mouth, Iago says "Jerk" under his breath. At the time of recording, Gilbert Godfrey had just been chastised about how he delivered a previous line by the director. As the director was walking away from Gilbert, he called the director jerk under his breath not realizing his microphone was still on and recording. It wasn't until the premiere of the movie that Gilbert realized the animators snuck the jerk line in.
Priceless.
First the voices of Cinderella and Snow White passed away now Iago,No😭😭😭
We so need to have just the recordings of Robin Williams as genie on a separate DVD or something like that for an anniversary edition for Aladdin. I swear to God they need to do this, I will give most of my money for that
Also Kevin kline and Kenneth b need to do a movie together asap]
One of my favorite ad-libbed lines from Robin William's Genie happens right after Genie saves Aladdin from drowning "Aw Al I'm getting kinda fond of ya kid... I would've given you mouth-to-mouth but I don't find you that attractive" 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Actually Robin Williams put something in his will that basically put a gag order on Disney for... I can't remember the exact amount of years but it's a really, really long time basically to prevent Disney from profiting from his death and can't use the twenty or more hours of his time as the Genie that wasn't used for the original movie.
I guess he realized that Disney probably would have done this right away and they would have made a load of money from it.
Too bad they can't circumvent it and just put it on the net for free just for the fans.
@@Arwyn76 yeah. Hopefully they won't just decide to fuck him over in death
It's refreshing to see that Robin Williams' Genie isn't number one on this list. So I'm glad you guys actually didn't pander and conform to popular opinion this time like you usually do. In fact, it's always nice to see a Mojo list like this that doesn't have the most obvious and predictable choice claiming the top spot. But again, just because things like Williams' vocal performance as The Genie are the most popular and beloved doesn't mean they have to be number one on lists like this all the time. And thanks for putting the underrated Disney masterpiece that is Treasure Planet on this list. You also included that same unscripted moment from the movie in your Another Top 10 Disney Scenes You Didn't Know Were Improvised list.
RIP to our beloved Robin and Gilbert. Will never forget the smiles and laughter you brought to my life :D I love Hula so much it's a song on my phone :D it never fails to make me laugh :) thank you Nathan Lane :D

RIP Robin
1:03 One of the most famous insults of all time was ad libbed😂🤣
One of the reasons why western animation can have lots of improvisation and anime doesn't is the way each is made. In the west, the actors record their lines very early in the process. Afterward, the animators can use the improved lines (and even copy the actors' movements, facial expressions and clothing [in some cases] if they have a camera rolling in the recording booth) in the final product. Voice work is one of the final steps in anime, so the actors have to match lip flaps, leaving very little room for improvisation.
This is why so many actors can forget they made a western-animated film. It can literally be years between the recording sessions and a film's release.
That line from Buzz to Woody has always cracked me up since I was a little kid. "You are a sad, strange little man."
This has to be the first list in a looooong time that I didn't already know, Well done!
200: HEY! I love Brother Bear. I honestly don’t care how many times I hear underrated. I know you can’t say masterpiece to every movie but I love it including Treasure Planet
I think its a testament to great improv actors that not locking them in a box breathes life into these characters that otherwise would be missing. Obviously not all actors are great or even comfortable with improv, but those that are will give a better performance when given the freedom to do so.
Recording lines just work all too well when there's more than one person in the studio.
rest in peace you fine feathered bastard
RIP
Rip Gilbert Gottfried😭💔, you will be missed😔.
thank you so much for mentioning El Dorado. the Miguel and Tulleo duo is my favorite :)
See, I’ve always thought Road To El Dorado had some of the best dialogue ever used in an animated film, glad someone else agrees.
But let’s face it, Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline in a DIRECT homage to Bob Hope’s “The Road To Bali” was ALWAYS going to be comedy gold.
Man! I had no clue that Fiona’s burp was improvised! Major props to Cameron Diaz for not breaking character! 😲😲😲👸👹
Emperors new groove & treasure planet are still some of the best Disney animated films ever made.
Knowing that Gilbert Gottfried recently passed makes it hard to watch the Iago sequence. RIP, Gilbert, and Robin Williams too, may you both be "yukking it up", wherever you two are.

I felt sorry that gibert had passed way I still miss robin williams voice but I still can watch his movies.
Damn! Tom Hanks and Tim Allen’s improv in the first TS movie is truly exceptional! Even if Woody and Buzz’s personalities were drastically different, compared to the sequels, at least they were absolutely hilarious and we all have the legendary actors to thank for it! 🤠👨🚀
The Road to El Dorado might be underrated but I’m happy it’s number one on this list. Honestly, who wouldn’t love a movie with songs by Elton John?
Robin Williams ad libbed a majority of his lines in Aladdin.
gilbert gottfried and Robin Williams were both good comedians
I agree
'Treasure Planet' appearing in the list made me scream! My absolute childhood movie!
My grands love Brother Bear, and my daughter's favorite movie has always been Treasure Planet. And she's almost 28!
