As an 80's baby and 90's child I absolutely love the art in these books. I've just ordered this with intentions of getting onslaught and the other 'reborn' omnis. Top stuff 👍

@@TheComicBookTrove in fact I've literally just pre-ordered onslaught Omni as well.
I got into the collecting game late so I'm trying to make up for lost ground.
      Happy reading friend 👍

Liefelds crosshatching was online with Jim, Marc, and Finch, If you thought it was over the top then, just look at how Marc does it now with Batman. Not sure as to who started it but it continued through those artists and Marc has really taken it to another level. It's art and as we all know art is subjective. I love that style of hatching it's what got me into drawing. Maybe it's because they all worked together at some stage of their careers, that influences where bound to happen. Great review. Much appreciated.

I think all of those guys had an element of excess in their art styles at that time in particular, but that's part of the charm of it. Liefeld always seemed the most over the top to me, but I enjoy all of the art in this book as I'm a sucker for that classic extreme 90s style

@@TheComicBookTrove They definitely did have excess but that was the Marvel way. Stan Lee in How to Draw Marvel speaks of how Superhero's should look and that was the blueprint. A doco on Todd Macfarland shows just how much he changed the way Marvel looked at drawing, he also changed the way toys were made. It's a great watch and one that shows just how Todd was a major influence in the way comic art and toys are done today.

Dr. Doom was the unsung hero of Heroes Reborn. He was the big-baddie in two of the books, the central character of the final-issue crossover, and everything about him was awesome! I read part of this when it was released to the newsstand, the rest of it when the omni was first printed a few years ago...And I was shocked to realize that I didn't mind Rob Liefeld's art, but I absolutely hated Whilce Portacio's work. At least as it appeared in this book...

It's a testament to how good a character Doom is that you can find yourself rooting for him in some stories even knowing he's one of the most villainous characters around!

14yr old me couldn't understand why anyone would hate Liefeld until I started reading Heroes Reborn. Three panel pages, no backgrounds other than rubble, and direct competition from superior fill-in artists such as Ian Churchill and Brett Booth.

I lived through this nonsense and wasted my hard earned teens bucks on a full run of Ironman, for Hulks story, and FF, for Jim Lee art. Didn’t touch the awfully drawn Liefeld books. Maybe it’s fun as a retro read now, but it was disappointing. And it really messed up David’s Hulk run, which was my main title. Comics have always been experimental, but this felt like I was promised greatness and instead they were bad stories, with good ideas and bombastic art. That sounds like early Image comics, ha!

Onslaught/Heroes Reborn absolutely did mess up Peter David's Hulk run, no doubt about that, that run never quite got back on track after the interruption by these stories. Still, I find Heroes Reborn an entertaining read for the most part and more fun than the bloated setup for it that was Onslaught
