  • On April 4, 2010, I went through the most traumatic experience of my entire life. I fell off of a 30 ft cliff in St. George, Utah, and nearly died. I shattered my whole entire face and had to get it reconstructed. I've only ever shared this story with close friends and family, so opening up about all of this is pretty weird for me! I share all of the details I can remember about the accident and talk about how my life has been impacted by it. This is Part 1. Part 2 will be all about the after-effects and my life now!

As a believer, I believe there is no such thing as coincidences. The fact that your uncle could be at the receiving hospital with you is pretty awesome and amazing. And to be able to orchestrate everything that happened to get your face reconstructed also is not a coincidence. God is good. Very happy that you were here and able to share your life with your wife and your beautiful babies.

i can’t believe i, as a subscriber for awhile of your family and channel, have never seen this video before. this puts so much more into perspective of your life for me . the person you are today, your personality, your outlook on life, your absolute appreciation of the little things that come through the screen, the reason you are who you are and the wayy you seem so much more mature than other guys your age, the way you’re so playful and joyous with your wife and child. i thought you were just another beautiful family making content when i first subbed but then over time i realized it’s so much more than just 3 beautiful on the outside people. you are truly a family unit through and through, you are each other’s support system and you are kind and loving towards not just each other and your child but the rest of your extended family and your friends and fans. seeing this story makes me realize why bad things happen to some people sometimes. you had to go through a very painful, very ugly experience to grow and wisen up and be grateful and appreciate the beauty in life in all the little and big moments. there’s not a better young family i can think of to be rooting for in this day and age we’re in thank you derik and sarah! i hope you have many many happy, fulfilling years ahead of you! don’t ever EVER forget that you are special and you are good and that god def had a bigger purpose for you in life! many many thanks going up for your miracle that you are able to here with us all now ! in twice your age and yet i learn so much from you both about kindness and joy and patience and remembering to be child like in the little things sometimes as you are with jack and i’m sure will be with sunny marie as well!

Thanks for sharing your wonder so open and clear! I felt close to you, cause I had a very heavy accident 3 1/2 years ago. I was 65 years, when it happened. A car came crashing into the front of ours. The young woman, who was driving, had overtaken some other cars, even though there was a white line on the street and therefore forbidden to do so. When the car was around 20 meters away from us, I felt in my body that the car would overtake again. I shouted to my friend, she should stop - and then my brain was shut down for some minutes, so I didn't hear the crash. I came back noticing that my arm was broken, my nose was bleeding. I ooened the door, climbed out and shouted: I'm still alive! Then I shout for my friend, who had been driving, Brigitte, are you alive??? I sat down on the gras, realized, how lucky we were: the street was an allee and our car had been thrown between two of them right in the middle! I was still calling for my friend, until someone tipped lightly on my shoulder and said: "She's alive, too. She's still in the car, but police is coming to get her out. It all will be okay". That releaved me. Then some people came rushing to me, cutting my trousers of and helping me - I didn't realize it anymore. I was flown by helicopter to the hospital like you - a much shorter trip for me, but didn't notice it. I had deep cuts from the safetybelts, on the left my ader was cut, so I lost a lot of blood like you, my nose was smashed, my rips and my sternum were broken and my arm. The operated on my directly, otherwise I would have died of the bloodloss. On the next day I felt pain in my belly, told it to the doctors and was operatedagain: a sepsis has started, as I had inner wounds and smashs.
My sister saw me on the second day and thought, I wouldn't make it. My daughter answer: Well ,Mum is strong! She'll make it!
After 4 month in hospital I could go home, still having 2 big wounds on the left side of my belly, which I had to wash every day.
These 4 months were really hard and the time after that, too. I still have pain in my back and in my belly and I'm mentaly not fully well.
The hardest thing is that I have to fight for my rights with my!!! insurance company, though they can take the money back from the crasher.
But most of all I'm glad to be alive, to see my kis and grandkids grow, to be able to sing in 2 choires, to do some hobbies, meet family and friends and to tell people that in all of the pain, tears, fears and really hard times I felt God holding me and carrying me through!!!
Sure, my story is much different and as you've been a kid at that time, you might have learned to live with the consquences better than me. But we both had many engels protecting us and leading us through - and still do. I wish you all the best, you're a wonderful young man blessed with a loving wife and sweet babies/children. So stay healthy all of you, God is blessing you, Ela from Moers, Germany 🤨🤗🤗🤗

My dad was in a horrific accident and I remember those awful hallucinations. While he was in ICU he thought there were robbers that looked like the hamburgler coming down on ropes from the ceiling in the corner. He kept insisting I get under the bed and hide. Finally I figured the only way to calm him was to “shoot” the burglars so I grabbed my invisible gun and pretended to shoot them all. I was really getting into it, hopping around like a charley’s angel and looked up at some point to see a hoard of hospital staff standing at the windows facing into the room looking on with a mixture of laughter and horror. Not my finest day, but it did settle his mind.

Gosh I wish you were with me for mine! My mom stayed every night but I had an emergency tracheotomy preformed bc I went into cardiac arrest for 20 minutes. (I was 17 at the time but, 22 now!) and I couldn’t talk. Had crazy hallucinations that the nurses were trying to kill me and I couldn’t tell anyone. (I also couldn’t move bc I kept ripping out everything and trying to take my trach out so I was tied down) also had one where my dad had a tiny head (imagine the guy from beatlejuice lol) and told me I should have died. Was so convinced that he wanted me dead that when I finally got the chance to write it I told my mom lol. She actually called him and said it because of how scared I was! Can’t believe it!

    • @fairyqueen56
      @fairyqueen56 9 місяців тому

I think in some ways he does have a small amount of brain damage. Derik is thirty. He isn't mature as a thirty-year-old should be. Derick is in nearly a constant state of childhood play. He is in a State of fright when Sarah leaves him with Jack and Sunny for several days. He can not manage to care for them on his own, needing help. Other thirty-year-old men could. Jack usually ends up with some minor boo-boo because Detik can't watch two kids. Or if Sunny is nappy Derik may be playing video games or editing videos. In other words not watching Jack close enough. Sarah has three kids and a house to take care of. Derik is the third kid. Derik is always getting hurt, requiring ER visits and or surgeries. Derik prefers to play with the kids to establishing a routine with them. Sarah has set a routine. Derik with run with Sunny outside instead of putting her down for a nap as Sarah requests.
All things considered his behavior speaks to me of brain damage.

She broke her arm in 2 places, ended up with 3 skull fractures and had a brain bleed. But if it wasn’t for her accident, I never would have known about her brain malformation. She never showed any symptoms of having it and her neurosurgeon said by the time she would have, maybe about 6 months from then, she would not be here at all. That accident saved her life and she had surgery to help fix it on February 2021.

My mom had a stroke this year. On top of the stroke, she fell and busted her head open when she hit the floor. We were told that IF she made it, she'd have severe brain damage and would need hospice care for the rest of her life, and she would never be the same again. I didn't understand what that exactly meant bc when you are told that, there are so many things that that could be. She is now fully functioning again, and the only thing she doesn't do anymore is drive. This really reminded me of the feeling I had while I was at the hospital for those 3 weeks, along with seeing her condition...the feeling of uncertainty was overwhelming. My step-dad has an unwavering faith in God that is still hard for me to understand. He said from day 1 that she was going to be fine and that she was going to make it and to not even think of any other outcome other than her being well again. He was right, and if it weren't for him and his unwavering faith, I would have completely lost it.

I was in grade 7, Easter vacation as well. Snow still on the roads and they were slippery. My mother was driving and came to a railway crossing when the lights came on signaling a train coming. She panicked and slammed on the brake. The car hooked onto the train engine and we were dragged a few hundred feet and ended up being lodged between the train and a house. The front seats were all that was left, the car crushed like an accordion. My face went through the windshield ( no seat belt laws back then ) and had to have extensive plastic surgery. My mother, just a bruised abdomen. To this day when coming to a railroad crossing I double, triple, quadruple check both ways before crossing.

How scary! I'm glad that God spared you and I bet you have been especially careful after going through something like that.
I experienced a truck size piece of red sandstone rock come through my ceiling while I slept with my babies in my home during the summer of 2020. It fell in many large pieces from a distance of 100 feet or more. My brother happened to place a stake in the rock above us which prevented another large piece of the rock from falling right through the roof where we slept. I began experiencing something called exploding head syndrome. Didn't know what it was until I experienced it but it's a symptom of PTSD.
The face of our home had to be re built. 2020 was quite a year in more ways than one.

So I watched all 3, then the pregnant, the Cyst, and just got done with this one and I'll be watching the next one here as soon as I stop crying! Your story has already been a BLESSING for me. 🙏❤ I don't want to feel anything like I know what your parents even felt a 1/8th of! I've had my own traumas in life. And You reminded me how Blessed I am! May GOD Continue To BLESS You and Your Family!!! I really LOVE watching you clips and I subscribed after the 1sr How we met video!! THANK YOU!!! 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤🇺🇸⛑👍🤙🤙🤙⚓
