Nice review. Maybe not the most versatile tarp but there is something very compelling about it. How does it compare to the cheaper shaped tarp you got from AliExpress in terms of space and quality ? All the best.
They both feel good quality, but I guess only time will tell in terms of durability. The AliExpress tarp is more flexible in that you can lift the back with a trekking pole / stick or use a tree / bush etc. This is complemented by a hanging point on the back underside of the tarp so you can use bivys that need that - you don't have this option with the Rab. So I'd say the Rab is best for traditional Bivy bags and absolute stealth camping, the AliExpress is better for putting bivys that require two hanging points.
Often looked at these
But normal tarps offer flexibility
Cheers
Yeah, I think the ideal is to have both as you can never have enough camping gear!
What's the advantage of this shape over a regular tarp shape? Looks really interesting though!
I think the difference is that with this shape tarp you can get a very secure setup with just one trekking pole and a few pegs.
Do you prefer a traditional tarp or the shape of this one?

Gutting. I still haven't got around to using this one.
