Either extreme for the battery, 0% or 100% will reduce battery longevity more than it would if it were between 20% and 80%. It would be ideal to remove any case for wireless charging, made for it or not, the further away the coils are, the harder they have to work to provide that power, increasing heat output. Batteries aren't the biggest fan of heat, and will lose longevity faster if they are subjected to higher temperatures. A bit of extra heat is usually fine, but less is better. The second it’s fully charged I unplug it. Sometimes I charge it till 85-90% and unplug. Also I sometimes give it a break and don’t charge for 24 hours if it’s above 60% by the time I go to bed.
@@GasGotti I just do the same, I have timer and charge my iPhone 3 hrs in the night with battery optimising on and it shows my battery charges till 100% half an hour before I unplug it.
As an electrical engineer, my advice is that on a battery there is always a battery cycle consumed whenever it is full charge and drain.. the only way to reduced somehow is to charge it from 40 and plug it out by 75-80
well, from what i know, leaving your phone at night will not significantly damage your battery but it's kinda wrong to say it won't ever. optimized battery charging helps but if you have an irregular sleep pattern like me, it won't do much. the thing is; these lithium batteries are designed to constantly work. the ideal percentages for the battery's health is generally around 50% or at least between 40-80%. i'm only talking for the extra careful people out here though. since leaving the phone on charge while sleeping keeps it always at 100%, it might very very very slightly fasten up your battery degradation. it's still better to keep your phone off charge while sleeping, but if you prefer not to do so, like i said, it probably won't do a visible damage at all. at the end of the day, it's perfectly normal for a battery to degrade to 80% health in 2 years.
its false. go to apple, batteries and maximizing performance for actual tips. its recommended to only charge to 50% if you are going to keep it for more than 1 year.
Funny how I've seen in other videos people say that actually leaving the apps open is the myth, and the actual fact is that apps can get into loops where they keep working on random stuff and cannot stop due to bad coding or general software version issues (this increases in probability the more apps you have open), and these loops will cause resources to be constatly devoted. I have seen this on my iPhone 7 with many applications. Honestly, I don't even know what to believe these days.
Just to add. Closing all suspended apps on your iPhone before sleeping is not bad at all. Keeping 20+ application in suspended mode while sleeping for 7+ hours may take up battery percentage more than closing (not force) your application. This is just based on my observation. But keeping your application suspended during your active hours during daytime and not constantly closing it is a good practice as per this video suggested.
Same with me But as soon as upgraded to iphone 11 from 7 the battery health just dropped to 88% after 8 Months of Use while IPhone 7 which I’ve had for more than 2 Years still at 96%
If you implied that having the phone plugged in and charged to a 100% is no problem, being that the phone is designed to stop charging at a 100… then what use is the “optimized charging” that keeps the percentage at 80% before you pick it up?
There's no risk of overcharging your phone like there used to be with older batteries, so you're not going to cause a fire by leaving it plugged in, but leaving a lithium battery dead or fully charged for a long period of time will decrease its longevity bit by bit. Optimized charging learns from your schedule and will keep the phone at 80% until you're about to wake up, then it will charge up to 100% by the time you're ready to unplug it, thus reducing the time that the battery spends fully charged.
Basically what superfraggi... said. But the reason is that when the battery is near full charge or near empty, the charge is unbalanced and this is where the battery is under the highest amount of stress. So it would be ideal to keep the battery within the range of 20% to 80% charge to reduce the risk of battery expansion and reduction in performance.
Because while yes the iphone stops charging at 100% the problem is , it can happen that while you sleep 8 hours, your phone goes to 100% in 3 hours , now in the 5 hours left it can drop to 99% and the iphone starts charging again, that s called trickle charging which puts stress on your battery. So yhe optimized charging tries to prevent this behaviour basicly
U forgot to say it is recommended by battery scientist, that phones wif li-on batteries have a prolonged life when u charge it or maintain the battery at 40-80% charged, and not optimal to charge it fully to 100% as it reaches max capacity it will stress out the battery and having a worse battery health in the long run. Frequent charges> one longer full charge.
Apple clearly state you won't run into problems if you charge your iPhone overnight, stop charging it before it reaches 100%, or start charging it before the battery drains completely.
An Apple Store tech confirmed it’s not good to leave the phone charging overnight. That’s exactly what I did to my iPhone and it killed my battery. It actually said service battery. Phone would work but wouldn’t last all day only about half a day.
Great video! One doubt though, if keeping it all night long is fine, it means that charging to 100% and keeping it there is alright. So what is the added advantage of optimised charging (keeping it at 80% and charging the last 20% before you need to unplug)?

One question, why do we need optimize battery charging if there’s no way to overcharge your iPhone? Say it reaches a 100% at 4:00AM and we wake up at 8:00 without optimize battery charging, would that damage the battery?
This will not damage the battery but optimize battery charging increases the overall battery health in the long run. So for day to day use this will not be affected. Hopefully this helps!
Optimize battery charging prevents the battery from being at 100% all the time while charging. Which improves the battery Life/Health long term. However even if you do Not use optimize battery charging your battery could go bad health could drop sooner than expected, but your iPhone does not continue to charge itself after 100% no matter what.
One of the best for iphone advice 👍🏻not been with apple for about 6 years and just got the 13 pro max it's beaut 👌🏼 coming from the s21 ultra, followed you for years good to see you're still going strong!
Good content! While it’s less noticeable than it used to be, having apps up and running does use power, as well as bandwidth if they’re connected or constantly reestablishing connection as you move from location to location through your day. You should close those you’re not planning on accessing repeatedly. Having a slew of apps open as you go through the day, depending on the apps, will impact battery life and performance needlessly.
Exactly, I was going to say the exact same thing. It’s absolutely not a myth that keeping apps open when not using them is draining ur battery. Not only is ur phone trying to throttle the apps in the background but depending on what apps are still open, could be gps capatible or even a simple weather app running in the background is definitely using some battery juice. Leaving a few apps open probably isn’t a big deal but the amount of apps in this video is absolutely taking ur juice. Keep ur apps closed when not using them 💯
Ok. Question time that I’ve had it for years. Is it better to charge 100% and drain it all the way, thus charging once a day... OR give it multiple charges throughout the day but only charging it 15, 20% at a time??? While commuting for example...
I think you should not let it drop to zero. I can go 1 day w/o charging based on how I use my phone. I charge when I hit 20% & charge it 100%. Been doing it for years. Now lots give it charges thought out the day, or charge when they hit 40% & charge it up to 80%. It’s all based on what works for YOU & YOUR needs.
I've already bought my 3rd cable but now its from Anker braided cable. I always having trouble with apple cable that the wiring i think loosen up. Just bought brand new apple cable and after a month the wiring already not working properly, when you move it a little bit. It will not charge.
Thanks for this video - very helpful. I just bought a used iPhone SE 2020. The battery life is 85%. I notice if I leave my iPhone on in sleep mode the battery drains fairly quickly and if I turn my iPhone off the battery barely drains at all. Is this normal?
I doubt re-entering an app after closing it drains the battery “a lot quicker”....besides, I have ocd, so if it comes to mind, I’m gonna close out all my apps.
It does. Normally, when you’re not using the app, it becomes suspended. When you open it, you can pretty much continue from where you left off right away. If you close it, the app has to boot up next time you want to use it, requiring more resources (CPU, network I/O, disk I/O).
I only use official Apple 20W brick and cable but notice when my 13 Pro Max hits around the 80% mark, the battery gets warm then cools down again at around 90-95%

You can charge more than once a day, and you don't need to unplug it as soon as it reaches 100%. More over if you want to know when it reaches 100% use shortcut app
Please clear my doubt! Some people says that we shouldn't use fast charger (20W) on daily basis and should go with the standard 5W charger. Because using fast charger daily can reduce the battery life. Is it true??
How about using the iphone while charging. Is it harmful for the battery. Also is it ok to charge at any percentage and remove at another? 4eg: charge at50% to 70%

Nope. Background app refresh is a way for the app to receive data (via its servers) even when its backgrounded. Meaning it has nothing to do with app getting reloaded. If the app developers have not used this feature properly, the app might use more of your battery, but apple blocks the apps running too much in the background. So you don’t need to worry.

optimized battery charging helps but if you have an irregular sleep pattern like me, it won't do much. the thing is; these lithium batteries are designed to constantly work. the ideal percentages for the battery's health is generally around 50% or at least between 40-80%. i'm only talking for the extra careful people out here though. since leaving the phone on charge while sleeping keeps it always at 100%, it might very very very slightly fasten up your battery degradation. it's still better to keep your phone off charge while sleeping, but if you prefer not to do so, like i said, it probably won't do a visible damage at all. at the end of the day, it's perfectly normal for a battery to degrade to 80% health in 2 years.
Hey help me out please I charged my iPhone fully to 100% but when I see battery percentage it's 96 % but yesterday is was 97%
Where do you get your information from? Some pretty bold claims
its false. go to apple, batteries and maximizing performance for actual tips. its recommended to only charge to 50% if you are going to keep it for more than 1 year.
I had my iPhone 8 for over a year now and the battery percentage is 98% so is the good.

Phone heats up around 80%. If you charge further the heat may damage the phone. Giving the phone a break at 80% helps it cool down
Is it good to charge whenever you need to? Or do you have to drain battery all the way before recharging?
U forgot to say it is recommended by battery scientist, that phones wif li-on batteries have a prolonged life when u charge it or maintain the battery at 40-80% charged, and not optimal to charge it fully to 100% as it reaches max capacity it will stress out the battery and having a worse battery health in the long run. Frequent charges> one longer full charge.
So many people, so many opinions. 😅 Just enjoy the phone. Battery will get used and old no matter what.
@@joanne5224 yeah true, and also a free upgrade to new iPhone every year. At least for me
@@joanne5224 cringe
To avoid any stress on the battery just stop recharging it any more...
He is my broker too thanks so much Mr Rockwell

U can disable background app refresh. So it doesn't auto refresh on background if u forget to close ur bg apps

Thank you so much Mr Rockwell for helping me

It does. Normally, when you’re not using the app, it becomes suspended. When you open it, you can pretty much continue from where you left off right away. If you close it, the app has to boot up next time you want to use it, requiring more resources (CPU, network I/O, disk I/O).

Don’t u need to have background app refresh on so u can actually keep it open in the background so when u go back on to that app it doesn’t reload???
It’s not good to have background app refresh on.

I dont know why you havent mentioned the ff:
-Dont charge your phone all the time to 100% only charge it up to 90-95% most of the time
-As much as possible when your battery reaches 35% you should already charge it because once you let your battery go down to below 30 or 20% the battery life is decreasing.
-Lastly, upgrading to latest IOS affects battery health as well.
-why?
