Analog cab sims have come a long way. I used to use them recording direct in the 80s and 90s. It was tough to find good ones. I used an ADA cab sim rack unit that was the best I could find at the time. Not that many companies invested that much effort into *really* developing them. And the cab sims that have been available in stand alone multi effects units have been serviceable but kind of lackluster. Once we had digital models and IRs everyone caught on and it was off to the races. This sounds very good though. I wish I had this in the 80's!! Haha Nice job Burgs!
Just confirming that this is an excellent amp pedal. Not 30 minutes after I installed it, I saw on Reddit that Sweetwater has their new X (essentially an MKII DLX). I took the plunge and preordered. Looking forward to your demo of that, Brett! Thanks for everything you do.
BEST demo of this product I have seen. I have been using an earlier model, and have been pretty happy with it, but your demo impresses me to the point that I feel I ought to get the MK2,,,because it makes such a difference, on a demo, when someone knows how to set it to get great tones, which you get ( and great playing too). There were apparently two earlier versions--my friend brought me his, which has really small tone stack knobs...sounded terrible compared to my later version. The tweakability has been greatly enhanced, even from my later version. I think I will get the MKII. Thanks, Brett.
I’ve wanted one since the first version came out. There’s no digital modeller that comes close to it unless it’s a lot more expensive. And even then I think these Simplifiers sound better to me. And indeed, what more do you need? With a nice pedalboard before it you can have all the sounds you want. At least for a home studio. ❤
@@bjrnsteinarverby8875 Yeah, Andertons has a demo up for the newest one that releases soon and it sounds really great. Maybe they really improved on the original pedal?
@@bjrnsteinarverby8875 The reality is that Brett makes everything sound good!!!! As with all of the great UA-cam reviewers, it's not just the item that they are reviewing but the whole production and outboard associated gear that makes the sounds that suck us in 🙂 . Sorry to say but I'm rapidly becoming a UA-cam Review skeptic!!! ;-)
I just bought one of these. This is by far the best demo I've seen of this pedal. Great job! Not only does it do the "authentic" V, F and M tones really well, but there are new sounds to be discovered by mix-and-matching. You demonstrated this with the cabs really well, but didn't show that you can do it in the amp section also! A Vox pre with a Marshall power amp, etc. Finally, there is the playing feel. SO immediate and responsive compared to the digital options.
SS does have more of a "feel" and better AITR than digital. Just needs the right compressed attack. My old SS DG-Stomp sound was upgraded via 1x12 cabs to it's headphone amp! The op-amp is super HQ, even with a clean boost pushing for apartment volume limits. The good ole days. Now I recommend the Fryette all tube and analog cab/mic sim Valvulator GP/DI. It even has a re-active load for the 1W tube amp section and an FX loop for the headphone out.
Fantastic review as always Brett. This is definitely the most attractive amp sim device on the market for my taste. I have listened to a dozen different videos and I haven't heard anything I don't like and everything I do like. Such a great product and so usable and easy to use.
Hi Brett, Peter from the Gold Coast here. Great review and playing as always :-) Just checking... it is possible to run stereo in and out, without using the fx send and return? I would often want to easily bypass the pedal and use my Neural plugins as an alternative and I have lots of stereo delays and reverb pedals. Cheers
Forgive my question....I'm confused...why is it called "zero watt"? How can it be a "power amp" with zero watts? To use this live, would you need a power amp?
Plug it into a cab and you will hear almost nothing. An amp with half a watt or watt is a 'true' amplifier that will power a cab. This is an analog modeler that is 100% reliant on the PA or speaker system (either OUR headphones, phone or computer speakers) to actually make it 'loud.' It is an 'amp' in the sense that it has a preamp and power section.
Great Demo Brett! Can I ask as I dont have much experience with sims. Can I just plug a device like this into the front of my Guitar amp or is it only intended as a device to send into a pa or front of house?
Thanks, Tony. That device is meant to be run straight to the house and back through your monitors, however it can go to a standard guitar amp but you'd want to turn the cab sims off and run it direct to the power amp section, probably via your FX loop Return if you have one.

Like the smile on your face when testing the settings…

Nifty bit of kit!!
Convincing sims and an fx loop...
Sounds great thru the headphones, clever buggas!
Cheers Burgs👍
The best Simplifier demo I've seen, and I think I've watched all of them! Nice one.

Sounds really good. I’m not sure if it’s just your demo, but it does sound a lot better than the original.
How on earth do he get that nice sound out of this thing? I tried the original and it sounded like å broken speaker no matter how i tweaked it

as always, a sick review!! thanks for sharing
Major improvements.
Love the Simplifier, or at least the idea of it… might have to get one
Thank you for this great review. Very useful.
No probs. Thank you for watching. I appreciate it.
When you say "combo sound" around 5:30, I think you are saying "combination sound" and not really *combo* as those toggles are labeled... correct?

Hey Peter. Yes, mate. No need to use the FX S/R. It's just a bonus. Thanks for watching!

Do you think this would work well with a high gain pedal like the Revv G3? I want to use something like this and record direct to my PC.
I don't know why they named it "The Simplifier", it seems very complex! Sounds pretty good though.
The idea was “sim” + “amplifier”. It’s not that complex really, not any more than a typical amp front panel.
@@waitin4winter Oh, now I get it. That's a good one!
I guess it could be said - more 'simple' than some digital stuff with windows, menus, presets blah blah etc etc..... 🙂
Needs a spring not a plate reverb
For authenticity sure but plate is far more useful
