I just picked up one of these a few days ago. I've played it for hours with a few different guitars in just about every possible configuration. This thing sounds fantastic. It feels and sounds like I'm playing a real amp.
Being analog doesn’t hurt, but the real selling point for me was always that the Simplifier had amp sim, DI, and headphone all in one SMALL box. As well as a loop to insert effects between the amp sim and the DI. With other solutions, I might have to have two or three devices for all of that or one bigger device. It truly is a simplifier.
@@martyshwaartz971yep big selling point for me, this into my stereo delay with slightly different settings on each side, perhaps a bit of stereo panning! Opens up a whole world of possibilities.
I thought I read that the manufacturer said it's not a true stereo output but the reverb is somehow? Maybe I misunderstood. I have a Simplifier X coming so I'll need to check it out myself. But I really want to use it on my pedalboard for DI to DAW and/or into the clean channel of a Fender SuperSonic 22 with Rivera Rockcrusher, and Orange Rocker 15 Terror for stereo. Both amps have phenomenal clean channels just begging for pedals. I just need to know if this is truly a stereo pedal or not.

Can’t agree on this one. They have zero dynamics and sounds like Garageband amps at best. Like, if you put the volume down on your guitar, amp gets quieter, put distorts just the same. For me it’s completely useless
@@yaroslooove Not my experience at all. The Bogner and Rectifier/Soldano Bricks pedals clean up fine with the volume knob. The Vox one is even more responsive.
Danish Pete ripped, as usual. Nice job! I never heard of DSM and Humboldt until today. That was an outstanding tone! You can get outstanding tone from any button on the box or your guitar. It would be great in a PA, a line for your computer, or an amp. Tone is king, it will always be. Digital boxes are getting great tones, too. The digital things that I don't like, or buy and don't play anymore, are having to change 20 parameters to get the tone you like, and the tone changes with different things like DI, amp types, etc. The Simplifier is old school with a little tweak on the box. I'm an aging guitar player and would advise young players to get this Simplifier Mark II.
Another DSM box: the size is totally defying/hiding the feature richness ... great variety of really good sounds ... and the human interface is just great Thanks a lot for this great demo
Andertons has consistently had the best demos of all the DSM & Humboldt Electronics products. The new Simplifier sounds fantastic, and I will definitely be upgrading from my original Simplifier. If the MKII didn't exist, I wouldn't have thought anything was missing from the original, other than not being able to defeat the cabsim on the 1/4" outputs (I don't need built-in reverb, even if it's a decent one), but now that I've watched the Andertons and maker's demos, it's clear to me that the MKII will likely serve my purposes a little better, even though I do actually prefer the lower gain range on all amps.
Thanks for the great vids, as usual! FYI It seems that after the 20:31 mark the on-screen arrows are messed up. Lee's finger (and the led on the switcher) are pointing to the opposite pedal from the arrow.
As a user of the v1 I can say that the placement of the headphone out is way better on v2 (and also the Simplifier DLX). I had it at the end of a pedaltrain nano+ with the DI outputs facing out, but that meant that the headphone out had a pedal next to it, so I had to pick it off the board and angle it to get a headphone cable in for silent practise.
I got a Dream 65' and honestly liked it so much I got rid of my Axe fx 3, also used to have Kemper and Line 6 but still like the Dream 65 more. With all the money saved you can get whatever pedals you need to compliment it.
Just got hold of a Classic: AB'd against an Iridium and for me the Simplifier came out on top as a better pedal platform, especially for stereo rigs: Stick a decent compressor last in chain before the input and the natural ampiness is all there! Yes it does lack gain, but, hey, pedals! :D
My OG simplifier has seen many days played on a silent stage. I love it. The headphone and aux are perfect for silent practice at home. I use it as a clean amp with my pedals.
Could you do a simple video on how you connect these amp boxes to speakers, amps etc. I use an amp in a rehearsal studio but it’s not great so it would be great to use one of these with the speaker cab there but I guess you can’t connect because of impedance issues? So are you connecting an amp box to another amp? I don’t really want to connect it to a PA speaker where the vocals are coming from. Cheers
Love the videos guys! Sometimes I think a bit of room noise would help bring across some of the character of these sounds as that direct sound can make things sound thinner than they are in reality. Especially with amp modulation, you kind of need that air movement to give it that personality.
Honestly, air movement is one of the most important factors when it comes to our beloved analog tube amp sound. I realized this when I bought my first speaker cabinet.
@johnghost5508 yea that's why as good as this software based stuff is now (I do actually like and use it) it won't quite ever compare to a good valve amp cranked up! Just has more practical uses sometimes.
@LORDJPXX3 that's true and the digital stuff sounds great when cranked through a good pa. The only thing for me is the character from the relationship between the tubes and the speaker that comes with an amp is just a different thing, especially to how it feels to play. I'm not hating on digital stuff though it's duper versatile and I really want the FM9 myself!

You could also use the headphone out for in-ear monitoring.

Think of it as the tone shaping element of the amp and cab. So guitar go in and the outs go to headphones, effects return, power amp in, audio interface, or foh. You can put pedals in front or in its effects loop.

Stupid question please! Can I play one of those through/in my oldfashioned home stereo system, like a good Yamaha Sterre Amp/Receiver, sort of like in a tape input or aux. I have good HifFi speakers (no special Studio monitors)???????
I didn't hear the stereo features discussed much in the video. This might be a silly question, but is the FX loop stereo? ie if you have a stereo pedal in the loop (perhaps a Cloudburst? 🤨) does the stereo output of the pedal end up as a stereo output from the amp pedal?
You know that last little jam out at the end sounds like something the band U2 would do yeah start out like that have a big kick bass drum come in with the Electric bass rolling in yeah I can hear it especially with their vocalist coming in with a cool vocals
These are really nifty for people that already have one decent tube amp. And maybe have a pair of active monitors in their studio. You can turn it into a wet/dry/wet rig without having to buy three big amps. With the tube amp in the centre for the dry tone. you can split off a tap after the comp/wah/boost/drive from a switcher pedal like the Lehle, Palmer or those handmade in UK splittters with the phase switch and isolated out. Run the fx send of the DSM out to your stereo effects, then back and you have a good WDW rig and with balanced outs to the active monitors for a nice clean noise free stereo wet sound. And without the latency headaches you'd get from a modelling pedal, or two modelling amps. But still with the flexibility to match your wet tone to your dry amp (if a classic Fender/Marshall/Vox style). Or, to use different styles for the stereo wet pair. Vox type tones sound particularly nice with stereo digital delays and reverbs. For people that don't have spare active monitors, the Thermion Zero is a great option. Would just need to buy/build two small cheap cabs, 8 or 10" would probably be fine. But you get a lovely three option stereo reverb into the bargain. For cheaper, wet-dry, the Hughes and Kettner Stompman is a good option. Though I think the DSM and Thermion sound a bit better, though only based on online demos.
Brian May uses - or did use - an amp made by John Deacon quite a bit on Queen recordings. The amp had an oval-shaped speaker and no controls at all - just plug in and play! On his AC30s Brian ALWAYS PLUGS INTO a Rangemaster treble boost and from there to the amp. Brian generally uses 3 AC30s in a "wet dry wet" configuration.
Is the mk2 vastly different from the UAFX sims, besides more flexibility? For instance the described feeling of "lag", overall feel, harmonics/overtones...
Can you use this into a power amp (Seymour Duncan power stage 200) then into a 2x12 cabinet with a High Gain Distortion Pedal in front of it,, or is it not meant for this application?
After this presentation I bought the original 1. edition of Simplifier. The reverb on mk2 is “eating” the dynamic. The original is the real deal for pedal platform.
To me, with tube amps, there is a certain sound you can actually feel going into a tube amp driving a speaker cab. You can sense the air being pushed and smell the tubes heating up. To me, you can naver get that regardless of how much dsp a unit has...but as far as sounding good or similar, amp modelers and irs sound just as great, if not better if you really sit with it and dial it in. Also, at some point today, the signal is gonna be digitally processed at some point unless you're strictly a bedroom player
13:50 woah! Nice! I recall the black one had inputs for stereo effects; that seems to me to be where these pedals tend to full short. If they bring out a version that can take stereo effects may I humbly suggest you demo it with the ventilator rotary pedal, should sound amazing!
Can someone confirm the actual internal signal path of the mk2? I am interested but I need the effects loop to be between the pre amp and power amp stages, not after the reverb OR cab sim, it should be preamp->effects loop send->effects loop return->reverb->cabsim->DI,
The MK2 does sound a lot better than my original Simplifier which I liked a lot. I sold that however and went with Vox Valvenergy Mystic Edge and I'm VERY happy
Before there were digital modellers solid state amplifiers were considered the cheap and ugly alternative to the real thing: tube amps. But now, solid state has suddenly become the `analog` heaven in contrast to the harsh `hell` of digital modelling. A remarkable comeback I don't think anybody anticipaded 😁
Improved. Nevertheless we always recommend to use headphones with 16, 32, 64 and 96 ohms impedance. Loss of power may occur with higher impedance headphones.
If I want quiet use but don't want to use with headphone, can I use it with -> XLR-> a compact mixer -> a pair of small active monitor ? Did I miss anything here?
I’m so proud to see this pedal reviewed in my favourite gear channel. I grew up playing in a band with DSM in Chile 🇨🇱 Congrats Danny!

What's the headphone out actually like? Because the noise floor on the mk1's makes it unusable even for practice.
Id like to see this compared to the Blackstar Amped 3 and similar items.
That sounds outrageously good.
Stupid question please! Can I play one of those through/in my oldfashioned home stereo system, like a good Yamaha Sterre Amp/Receiver, sort of like in a tape input or aux. I have good HifFi speakers (no special Studio monitors)???????
No reason why not as long as you get the right cables
Anybody got a link to Danish Pete's kicks?
Love the mkII. And yes, it's the "ball of the thumb" aka the "thumb pulp" --- the meaty part opposite the nail. (Thanks wikipedia).
I didn't hear the stereo features discussed much in the video. This might be a silly question, but is the FX loop stereo? ie if you have a stereo pedal in the loop (perhaps a Cloudburst? 🤨) does the stereo output of the pedal end up as a stereo output from the amp pedal?
The FX Loop on the Simplifier are always stereo :)
@@dsmhumboldt thanks!
Really impressed with the Marshall sounds, especially with the front pickup. It sounds great all around though.
I'd love to try this to compete with my Strymon Iridium.
You know that last little jam out at the end sounds like something the band U2 would do yeah start out like that have a big kick bass drum come in with the Electric bass rolling in yeah I can hear it especially with their vocalist coming in with a cool vocals
What was that Leslie’s simulator at the 18 minute mark sounded awesome
That pedal is 'What your mind hear's in a box'! 🎼 Thank you, great tones and playing!🎸
Is the mk2 vastly different from the UAFX sims, besides more flexibility? For instance the described feeling of "lag", overall feel, harmonics/overtones...
Sounds amazing. Question - can it be put in front of a guitar power amp?
Yep!
For the deluxe or the mkiii please please put the brown sound too (the early one)...
Can you use this into a power amp (Seymour Duncan power stage 200) then into a 2x12 cabinet with a High Gain Distortion Pedal in front of it,, or is it not meant for this application?
Well, that sounded tremendous :)
Love the video I’m pretty much sold, do you guys think a DI is absolutely necessary to go the straight to interface route ?? Thanks in advance guys 😊
After this presentation I bought the original 1. edition of Simplifier. The reverb on mk2 is “eating” the dynamic. The original is the real deal for pedal platform.
How does it feel on the guitar, does it feel nature or bright and tight.?
Sound and feel only - Simplifier MKII or UAFX Dream, Ruby?
What a fantastic video have a good Easter long weekend andertons
definitely sounds legit, my amp is looking intimidated!!!
In the comparison at the end they stuffed up the arrows :(. Watch the A/B switcher lights instead!
In what way is this little beast any different to their Simplifier DE Luxe, apart from the colour?
What black magic effery are you doing to both produce and rehide a pick at will, Pete?!
Loved mine. Sold it, literally, less than a month ago, though. My pet peeve: Fidgety switches and minuscule label prints.
Can you connect this pedal into a multi effect pedal like Boss gt or me or a ton c etc…? Is the power load enough for gigging with a passive cab?
I just bought the dlx version, would I return that one for a new mkII? Personally I think the dlx is still superior.
did you find an answer?
@@actz114 not really, I am going to keep my dlx, it has still does more than the mkII. The mkII might have more tone shaping options though.
13:50 woah! Nice! I recall the black one had inputs for stereo effects; that seems to me to be where these pedals tend to full short. If they bring out a version that can take stereo effects may I humbly suggest you demo it with the ventilator rotary pedal, should sound amazing!
both MKi and MKII have stereo returns in the effects loop
@@AdamGarrett72 thank you... yes, I hadn’t watched the whole vid... it was more obvious on a different demo - extraordinary bit of kit!
Can someone confirm the actual internal signal path of the mk2? I am interested but I need the effects loop to be between the pre amp and power amp stages, not after the reverb OR cab sim, it should be preamp->effects loop send->effects loop return->reverb->cabsim->DI,
Great one !
I love my original Simplifier. Why did they have to release this!!!!!! Sounds awesome
That sounds amazing.
The blue arrows in the comparison are reversed or its just me?
Silly question.
Does anyone know where to get the exact pair of camo pants that Danish Pete is wearing???
The MK2 does sound a lot better than my original Simplifier which I liked a lot. I sold that however and went with Vox Valvenergy Mystic Edge and I'm VERY happy
Looks like the visual arrows when comparing the two where mixed up alil there at the end lol
Yeah when the cloudbursts I can't hold it back either I tried one time and just got soaked yeah that sound it's really cool

Does it have a headphone jack? (Nevermind, Cap Lee talks about it in the Some Thoughts? section. It has one.)
I think both sound great.
Is the headphone output the same as the other Simplifiers or had that been improved?
@@thebee7103 yes sure! We’ll be doing this way in next NAMM Show for monitoring.
@@thebee7103 Yes this is how I use my DLX version at home
