@@alessiomuccio2795 the first time was when UA-cam was announcing they’d probably take away the dislike button or something like that. This was a few months ago.
And just like that, the downward spiral just got bigger today.
And EmpLemon predicted this back in 2019
Sad but not surprising 😔
Don't worry, soon they will replace it with the love button and you will have a choice between liking and loving any given video. ♥

If like/dislike is too binary, what if we made a system with more than two options, maybe a grading system with, oh I don’t know, 5 stars?

They did it. We lost. Dislikes are gone, and now opinions are removed. UA-cam is APPEALING TO THE COMPANIES MORE AND MORE.
I feel like UA-cam is trying to become TikTok. The addition of shorts is obvious, and this is also reminiscent of TikTok because they don’t have likes either.
Not just companies but politicians and news
Nah, the battle has just begun. They are just testing the waters to see how much we care about it.

Me: UA-cam would never remove the dislike button!
UA-cam: Not if I have anything to say about it, and I do!
This is truly the end. The downward spiral keeps getting worse and worse.
They have now removed the dislike count, here's what I've observed.
As everyone predicted, the comments are more aggressive.
A flood of angry comments is much more noticeable than a single number.
In their attempts to silence criticism, they made it more obvious.
Also, every largely disliked video will have a bunch of "use me as a dislike button" comments, so the change doesn't even do its fucking job.
yep
Now all they have to do is ban the word
Nice pfp.
RIP Groggs
People made a Chrome extension that tries to bring back the dislike count using its own database shared between users.
UA-cam: Strange, one of our new platform changes *still* hasn't worked? Huh. Oh well, let's brainstorm another one without the users' permission or knowledge!!
If you’re dislikes are more than 50% you’re probably the official UA-cam channel

Fuck. Nailed it.
If your ego hurts, then it’s your problem
@Black Star What does that mean?
@Sparky1970 A dislike isn't always criticism though, a lot of the time it's just people being negative assholes or having a grudge against the creator. Which is why literally every video on UA-cam that has over a certain number of views has dislikes, no matter how objectively good the video is. It's annoying when someone spends days, weeks, months working on something then some mouth breather in a basement who has never made anything in their life just smashes the dislike button. It's just spreading unnecessary negativity.

we're doomed. society has gone so far backwards that they can't handle a thumbs down icon with a number next to it.
Bro that bs reason UA-cam gave is just that, BS. They were probably told to do this by a government entity or corporation. Yeah some people were whining but comments (which aren’t removed) are way worse than a like-to-dislike ratio.
UA-cam 2018: Oh no, people are voluntarily choosing to watch UA-camrs with a variety of perspectives, let's remove the ones we don't like!
UA-cam 2019: Oh no, people are voluntarily choosing to watch alternative new sources, let's astroturf legacy news media!

"disabling likes/dislikes is depriving your audience of an expressive outlet"
This is exactly how I felt when I came across a video that did this or disabled comments. It feels neutering and manipulative.
Dislikes are actaully good some people sometimes upload videos, without listening to the dislikes, listening to the dislikes is beneficial, you Can improve your content and put alot of effort and change from a bad content creator to a good one, dislikes are beneficial but we got a backup and it's the comments,

This comment is in reverse chronological order.
Dislikes have always been a red flag to me. It doesn't necessarily influence my thoughts on a video, but it gives me warning signs to look out for. If there are 20% dislikes, I can still generally trust a video, but I will look to the comments to see why people are disliking. It's usually minor grievances or some factual thing that was wrong, etc. 50% dislikes is an instant red flag, and if I don't see obvious brigading in the comments (which is pretty rare), I'll assume the video is just incredibly controversial or incredibly wrong, and watch out for those pitfalls through the video.
If the likes/dislikes are hidden? The creator is dishonest. It's as simple as that.
Based Carrot pfp
I cannot believe they went through with this. It might seem trivial for "bad" content in vlogs or whatever UA-cam thinks is the only content on their platform. But I can say with confidence dislikes will have saved people's lives in the car modding community, and saved millions of dollars in bad mistakes for PC building and similar.

Irrelevant, but I'm the 420th person to like your comment.
If dislikes were removed, it would be like twitter where a comment disagreeing with the video gets more likes than the video
That would be pretty funny
Some of my videos have more likes on the comments than the actual videos
That'd add a new view to the video
"ratio"
yeah. ratioing the video would probably be the only way if that happened
"Just because you cant see the dislikes doesn't mean they don't exist"
FUCKING simple yet powerful statement
_“And what happened, then? Well, on UA-cam they say - that the downward spiral grew three sizes that day. And then the true meaning of dislikes came true, and UA-cam felt the backlash of 10,000 dislike mobs plus two."_
The nail in the coffin for the “comments are better feedback” argument: if a video had 1000 comments would you rather: A:have to spend hours reading them individually. Or B: see that there’s 600 dislikes and say to yourself “maybe I did something wrong” within the timespan of only a few seconds. Any ideas anyone?
Well, in the spirit of what Emp is saying, if people see a comment they like and agree with, (especially if its on a controversial video) they will like the comment. If enough people agree with that sentiment, it will be brought to the top of the comment section, along with all the others that the creator can see how much people like.
The only message that dislikes convey are Good and Bad. Not very descriptive wouldn't you say? For example, if I were to dislike your comment (assume that you could see that it was disliked for this example), the only thing it does is say that I don't agree, but WHY I don't agree. Dislikes by themselves only comment on what a person is saying by saying "Comment Bad," rather than a genuine explanation that someone has to put time into.
Also, people who care more to actually look at comments and choose one or multiple to like shows more care and justification than the opinions of those who are able to click dislike with no effort or thought necessary.
Read all the comments I dare you
@@narthar7113 you highly overestimate the intelligence of the average internet user. Literally just take a look at twitter. Go on, find a highly controversial tweet and read through the entire comment section. See if you can make any sense of it. Nobody does that now so why would it magically apply to UA-cam?
@Fries I mean, they half added back the star system, but yeah I agree that would actually be better on all videos

Small UA-camrs were used as a cover up.
And here we are, YET AGAIN EmpLemon knowing his shit. Honestly, every so often I get concerned about UA-cam in the future making restrictions on who can even upload or shit like that, would tank them but their decisions are that stupid and who knows what will be restricted on the Net a decade from now. Can’t you imagine a timeline where corporations somehow use cyber attacks or viruses as an excuse to create restrictions on who can even upload files to larger sites on the internet or to weaponise them against smaller sites like they “aren’t trustworthy” or shit?
That seems like exactly what its gonna be. And its all out of our Control At this point. If you told someone in 2010 how bad it would be now? They wouldnt believe you, and its only gonna get worse and worse. The only way to win this game, Is to not play.

YOU FORGOT SOMETHING ABOUT THE COMMENT POINT
*UA-camRS CAN DELETE THEM*
>inb4 EmpLemon deletes your comment for the luls
Yeah, but huge corporations can delete even dislikes.
and youtube encourages it because of the pedo adpocalypse your video can be demonetized because of your comments
People can Keep making channel and spam 'dislike'
@@XxInfinityxXTimer That is an annoying and time-consuming process. You'd have to spend all day making accounts, and you'd barely accomplish anything. 30 accounts equal 30 dislikes, which is nothing.
this video is ahead of its time
When I saw this video I thought for a moment; "Oh boy just another video explaining why UA-cam should bring back dislikes."
Then I saw that it was posted before dislikes were removed and just "...No way..."
Man, this aged like fine wine...
I love how they just throw “unskippable ads” out there like it’s not a bad thing or a big deal
Bro, the past month I was bombarded with nothing but 1-2 unskippable ads.
You can skip all of them? Wha
@@frostedlambs youtubers have the choice to put skippable or unskippable ads on their videos. You just choose good youtubers to watch.
Optitron98 closing and reopening the video sometimes works
Ads on UA-cam were a mistake, skippable or not, they shouldn't exist.
The main argument saying a dislike bar can lead to a bad performance of the video is a bullshit argument. Imo, its the whole point. The audience should decide what is good content, not the website. It's literally killing free speech. Dislike mobs are bad they say, but a company like UA-cam deciding to tamper with the dislike bar is the exact same thing. It forcefully changes the general narrative. They do it to generate a better appeal for large investors in their business.
While yes, dislike mobs are definitely a problem, however removing the dislikes is Definitely not the solution.
UA-cam is doing the equivalent of teacher of punishing everyone in the class because of the few bad student.
I think showing when the ratio is changing at a faster then expected pace would help, much like showing 10 of the recent videos ranked.
Dislike 2:electric Boogaloo when?
Thanks to the removal of dislikes, I can't tell if that 83k likes on a 900k view video means you struck a chord or your opinion is so conroversial that 800k people unanimously hated it
UA-cam: **Makes the most disliked video on youtube**
Also UA-cam: We are removing the dislike feature.
"i don't wanna play anymore!!"
Jonny oh yeah I forgot about UA-cam rewind after 2019 or was it 2020? Well I don't know..
Ok it was 2019
Honestly I think i'm even more disappointed at Rewind 2019 than 2018. Because at least they tried doing something big on that one, while in the newest rewind they literally made a glorified top 10. And they kept hyping it up saying that pewdiepie was going to be in it, mr beast, etc. And while they *technically* are in the video. The only thing they did was take random footage from their normal videos, they didn't actually reunite and plan out some sort of funny skit in like the other rewinds. It's lazy and an insult to the community
Oh how the turn tables
How the youtube staff meeting preceeding this discussion went:
"The dislike button makes it too easy for people to silence their opponents, which is bad because only *we* should get to decide who gets silenced."
But the thing is, dislikes *don't* silence people. A person can get disliked to hell and back, but that doesn't effect their ability to just keep doing the same thing over and over again.
@schtipadoo At least we can reply to them, and normally people like the comments rivaling the original comment, so I would say it's very easy to show your opinion with or without the dislike button on comments.
@@davidkonevky7372 yea but if you see an idiot with 1.3k likes you can't tell how many people agree Vs disagree, like on Reddit if you see someone with negative karma they either broke a chain or people disagree with them
Ayyyyyy nice!
@gapple * stars would probably be the same thing. Low ratings wouldn't be pushed as hard. I don't agree with silencing but if someone things your anti blm points are dumb or something as simple as UA-cam rewind how else are we gonna express it's terrible
*This is like that moment the crazy conspiracy theory video you watched content becomes realized... otherwise known as, I told you so*
Those crazy conspiracy theorists are always right always
R.I.P Dislike Count. You'll be missed dearly.
