    Fact: I stopped doing YTPs in 2013 because one of my King of the Hill parodies was flagged a dozen times, and even caused my account to receive a copyright strike, which hindered my ability to upload newer videos at the time. Also, a friend of mine who's an indie horror filmmaker once uploaded a short film he made which had a 100% original soundtrack that was composed by another friend of ours. His video got automatically copyright claimed by some EDM artist in Japan, because one of the notes in my friend's soundtrack sounded similar to the same synthesizer used in the Japanese channel's song. Thus, they put ads on his video and gave all of the revenue to the EDM musician in Japan.

      @@Legomicroman What I've been doing is using FL Studio to make chiptune remixes of preexisting songs - current music and classical - blended together with orchestra instruments. For example, my Nintendo Mosaic Deconstruction video has a long song that's a remix of classic NES songs mixed with classical instrument synthesizers.

      @Dv2YT 4 роки тому +27

      @@baron_von_brunk How different are they in terms of composition? I've done chiptune covers that get claimed no matter how different the instruments sound, it just detects the song structure instead, I think.

    • @baron_von_brunk
      @baron_von_brunk 4 роки тому +35

      @@Dv2YT It varies, honestly. I'd the say the majority of my chiptune songs are completely 8-bit with no additional synthesizers or instruments. Most of my chiptune covers never got claimed, but a few did: "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden, "Dogs" by Pink Floyd, and "Heart Shaped Box" by Nirvana all got claimed and my ad revenue was funneled to their record companies. I also got my chiptune cover of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" claimed by Disney, but I filed an appeal to prove that the song was actually a public domain classical music song, and not the specific song from Fantasia.

    Gaijin, the developers of War Thunder, use to copyright system to remove videos about their game they don't like and are very open about it.
    Most recently, a guy did a video about rampant hacking in the community, the video was claimed and removed, and when called out, they said it was policy to remove any content that mentions hacks.
    They removed something from a platform they don't own for their own internal policy. Nobody should have that kind of power, but here we are.

    There's actually an exception to "Bootlegger".
    While it's true that a lot of full episode uploads aren't exactly legal, there are companies who have uploaded full episodes of their shows. In master quality too. Whether it be to thier own channels, or a sister channel for that show. It is hard to tell the difference at times, but it is legal since they DO own the rights.
    These channels include WildBrain (LazyTown, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Johnny Test), TreehouseTV (Little Bear, Franklin, Max and Ruby, Rolie Polie Olie), and of course, channels like Sesame Street and Peppa Pig.
    If you ask me, I'd put that somewhere between "Mr. Clean" and "Cold Turkey". While they don't get taken down because of Content ID (they rarely get taken down at all), what usually happens is that the people running the channel block them in certain countries because the distribution rights holder for that country suddenly decided to change thier minds. And it isn't illegal at all because, once again, they own the rights.

    • @observer5615
      @observer5615 3 роки тому +2

      you aren't talking about the company's host distributor in that country because it's stupid to even think that company's host going to have more control over rights then the parent company, Then doesn't the distribution rights holder also holds the rights of the show in their country?!!! And also if the owner(who wants to upload the show globally) has just the rights of their show in USA and not copyrighted the material in any other countries or top on that sold it's copyright to other country's distribution rights holder, like an idiot then it doesn't make the company guilty who sold their rights and now wanna have full control over that material....

People uploaded the songs to just enjoy them and non existent companies put claims on them or got the audio for the video removed.

    Just like most people, I'm not really one to spend the time to write a comment on a video--I consume the content I decide is worth my time and I get on with my life.
    But you've compelled me to comment here, if only in some vain attempt to reach a creator that has managed to leave a bigger impact on me in the meager handful of days I've been perusing your channel than most I've come to watch regularly on this site for the past several years of my life.
    While I haven't dug into every single video and every single story on this channel, its content (particularly the more contemporary commentary videos) has presented me with such a compelling and thoroughly internally consistent experience as a new viewer that I just have to follow it up myself somehow. The downward spiral has claimed another victim, and it's been a hell of ride so far. Especially dipping my toes into your old poops, since I'm a huge fan of YTPs (Captain Duckturd is my current favorite YTPer, can't wait for new stuff from him). I'm a bit saddened that you've essentially closed the book on your YTP antics, but that's pretty understandable given all the shit that went flying after a while when you did.
    What I really wanted to talk about, though, is the strange position you hold in the UA-cam landscape and the shockingly unique personality that you've become on this site.
    The first video to sneak me into this channel was, unsurprisingly, your newest one: this one. I watched it the day it came out, and the memes you invoked in it intrigued me to say the least. I knew there was more to the downward spiral, your editing style, and visual source material. It all comes together to create something capable of causing culture shock, honestly. That includes the stellar music choice for all of the videos I've watched so far.
    You've been effectively sitting out of this game called UA-cam for years now, and it's given you and, by extension, your viewers an incredibly interesting perspective on the events that came and went over these past years on UA-cam. You've had the opportunity to experience, spectate, and dissect the many baffling things that have gripped this site and its users. Seeing the events that I saw from afar as what's best described as a UA-cam lurker, I was totally disconnected and unable to really grasp their contexts and finer nuances. The semi-jaded, cynical lens that your channel expresses itself through is something entirely new to me. And that combined with your eagerness to interact with others and to operate constructively despite the coarse language you tend to employ was frankly enough to force my hand in hitting the un-unsubscribe button.
    I'm looking forward to your upcoming videos, and the continuation of the epic saga of the downward spiral.

    Something I've slowly been realizing is that the internet has, ironically, made it more likely than ever that noteworthy media vanishes forever.
    Original UA-cam content is remarkably ephemeral, between copyright claims of varying bogusness and the occasional creator breakdown followed by mass deletion of videos.
    Streaming services for TV and movies are constantly swapping who owns the rights to what, while driving down the demand for physical releases, meaning something could very easily vanish off the net and not have a physical version anywhere.
    And the general attitudes of digital media companies does not leave me with any faith that if, say, that book I just bought on Kindle were to get wiped from their servers in a freak accident, that Amazon would do anything to get it back or compensate me.
    I've started to become a media hoarder. Do I wanna watch a TV show? I'll buy the DVD or Blu-Ray, and if I can't I'll pirate it and keep it on a hard drive, safe and sound where no one can go "Netflix has the rights. No wait, Hulu has the rights. No wait, Amazon has the rights." I don't use Spotify, I purchase Mp3s from Google Play and iTunes, and keep them on SD cards, because I no longer have faith that the music I like will be there tomorrow.
    I'm seriously worried that one day, 30 years from now, I won't be able to enjoy the media I like now, even though it's no problem for me to go out and buy a copy of basically anything major from 30 years ago now.

    • @Maddbox11235

      @@nelzelpher2088 I mean, Mp3 files are a fairly safe bet. You can just copy them onto spare hard drives, SD cards, flash drives, etc. A 64gb flash drive will run like $15 USD, and can hold enough music that you could play music nonstop for a week and never repeat a song. You can make a spare copy, keep it in a storage locker or at a family member's house or something, and have a backup. And since it's standardized computer file with a non-proprietary format, it should still work on any computer made after the early 2000s. Assuming you'll live a full life and die sometime in the 2090s, you'll still be able to either play Mp3s on whatever sort of computer we use then, or be able to get a second or third year computer science student to program an Mp3 player in exchange for a case of beer.
      If you're a part of the very small crowd who can, in fact, tell the difference between an Mp3 and high quality vinyl records, there are other computer formats. Look into lossless audio compression. Downside is that lossless formats require a lot more space.
      After that, well, it gets tricky. CDs are easy to burn with a computer with a CD drive, but are easy to scratch up. Cassette tapes are bulky and wear out with enough use. Not to mention, tape decks aren't mass-produced like they used to be, and have a lot of moving parts that will eventually break. Vinyl records are even bulkier than cassettes, can get scratched, and require specialized equipment to copy.

    I think you missed an important point about copyright and poops;
    Posting a full film on UA-cam is for people who haven’t seen it yet and taking away a potential audience member.
    Poops use the film that a viewer has already seen to poke fun at something. The poop assumes you’ve already seen it, isn’t replacing the film and is being used for something the potential audience member isn’t going to find in the original.

      I found a new reviewer, her name is "justanotherreviewer". ua-cam.com/channels/Ors2LLIsh4bWllQldByVNw.htmlvideos she's small enough right now that even one comment and like on every video would help immensely. She also did an actually good review of Yooka Laylee, so I quite like her. This is the only real way to find new channels now, by getting them from other randos online. Or by stumbling onto their comment like I did.

    I realize now what i find so appealing about your channel. The well versed and informed content that you do. It took me a while but it had finally hit me, theres another youtuber who does archives for speedrunning world records, Summoning Salt, his videos are like documentaries the way he formats them. While i was watching your Dale Earnhardt video you had used the same musical transition he does for most of his videos and it clicked. (around the 25 minute mark if anyone cares) tl;dr Thank you for producing higher quality content thats well researched and versed.

    I like how this struggle between good and evil forces content creators to push the boundaries. They'll evolve and survive.
    The only downside is that old videos might dissapear entirely when we die. Like two armies fighting in historic ruins only to have the ruins completely destroyed. Gone forever.
