I can’t wait to test one out, I currently own a 2018. There’s some stuff I’m not a big fan of but it was a heck of a deal. Waiting till we get it in the US to give it a shot so far the new sienna has me sold but awaiting the launch of this.
if you have a large dog this vehicle makes sense, without having 6 other children. E.g. I have a Subaru Outback and on a family trip, three adults and a 36-40lg large dog in the boot, we barely have enough luggage space in the remaining rear seats and a large roof top box. In fact sometimes we do not have enough space and rely on others in the travel group. Having the roof top box also impacts the ability to enter some locations. With the Kia you wouldn't need the box and have enough internal storage, in addition to giving enough space for the dog
@@videowsatcher that was the main reason we got the Van, we have one kid on a rear facing convertible seat and a 59lb lab/whippet. We had a Rav4 and with the dog at the boot we had to put wife in the rear seat with kid while the bags, stroller and everything else was in the front with me. We finally decided for a van, now dog goes on one side of boot with plenty of space to spare, one side of the rear seats are up and the stroller fits behind the seat in the hole. Bags and luggage on third row and now we can carry more than the 4 of us 😂
I have one child, but my wife loooooves the captains chairs in 2nd row and the space a minivan offers on road trips. I've been a manual transmission coupe guy all my life, then moved into SUVs when I got dogs. But wow, once I went into the Kia Sedona SXL, I didn't know how happy I could be driving a minivan.
Completely agree. They are completely killing it right now in both design and engineering. Just bought a 2018 Elantra it's the most solid vehicle I've ever owned.
I dont’ need a minivan, but I’d buy this just for it’s looks. The design team should get an award. Kia is making some really nice cars these days, other brands could learn a thing or two from them.
One hell of MOM magnet for Grandpa (Me)! You have to learn to trust/appreciate the Lane assist on the highway mostly. Takes some effort with the User's manual to undertstand the modes anda when Auto Stop/brake is engaged. LOVE IT!! A second opinion! Keep your camera lenses clean and live the dream of an SXPrestige Grandpa Edition.. In Flame Red!!! Challenger to any Escalade or Lincoln on a budget!! Smoother than any of them on 93 octane. Get it at MSRE and love it.
The SXP with all four huge side windows open including both Sunroofs wide open functionally is a Convertible!! Grandpa's bald spot keeps it's tan! The SXP 2nd row VIP seats are perfect for a nap... or a romp in the hay! Grandpa happy
Rented one of these recently. Absolutely loved it. So comfortable, so practical, it makes everything so easy. The adaptive cruise and self steering are an absolute boon on a road trip, it makes a long trip so easy, safe and relaxed. It's big but doesn't feel it at all behind the wheel. With the terrific rear camera, it's really easy - easier than maneuvering my daily driver hatchback in a car park. If you have need of a people mover, no need to look further in my view
Amazing car, love the design. I’m a Kia owner and I’m really happy with my choice. Kia is really at the top of their game in recent years especially in Australia.
saw this reviewed by a girl a couple months back (the Asian version with 3 rear rows of captains chairs) and it's easily the best looking minivan out there, period. They nailed the design. It's really great looking. The Telluride, the Stinger, the new Sorrento, this Carnival.....ALL are super sharp. KIA is no joke. They are gunning for some serious market share.
Great review, I have a 2018 SLI, use it for work, installed 2 x big tool boxes in the back and could still use the back seats with ease, my carnival is awesome but a few things that would make the vehicle so much better than all the rest of the competition. 1. Black seats (Now we have them) 2. Four wheel drive (Still waiting) 3. Diesel (Noisey) 4. Drive away lag from stop (Really dangerous) 5. Misfire at low speed/load ( Techs cannot figure why) 6. Auto wipers (Really none, thats sucks) 7. Plastic (ABS) beige in the cabin really soft and damages very easy 8. Seat leather way to thin (Maybe this new model they have figured this out Overall the vehicle is awesome, I'd buy another if the above was fixed, to add they should have a GT model with Sorento like interior that would totally kill the whole market of larger people movers, thanks for reading.........
The only minivan I have ever liked is the 1995 Honda Odyssey (My parents had one, fond childhood memories in it) But this, Kia have truly made the minivan cool
Carnival's are highly underrated. I drove one once as a hire car and wanted to keep it! I was blown away by everything, but especially how much boot space it has!
With 5 kids I love this new iteration of the Carnival, that SUV like design is sweet. We cruised around NZ on holiday in the previous generation with a diesel engine and it was a joy to drive such a comfortable cruiser and that boot swallowed our luggage. Would pick over any other people mover on the market.
Definitely a big change from the last carnival. Looks is on point. Like you said Paul the SUV styling definitely makes this stand out. That 2nd row middle seat removal is a winner from me. Still having that spare tyre is also a awesome added bonus.
It looks so much better than previous models. The fact that my husband called me on his drive to work to tell me he drove past the 2021 Kia Carnival and he said he would actually own one definitely means its look is not as mini van. He was so against mini vans because he doesn’t like the look of them but said the more SUV type look might convert him😂
I have one of these, the Gls+ version, and i can tell you this is the best car i have ever owned. Feels like an Suv but better and is crazy fast! I’ve raced with many cars such as the Cruiser V8 and the Lexus 570 and have won every time. This car is phenomenal!
Absolutely. Before CarExpert, every single car review from Australia was pretty much unwatchable. The same monotonous, annoying royalty free rock music droning on in the background while a mumbling reviewer read directly from a script into a crackly mic.

This actually looks fantastic. Like I would drive this. The black wheels also look great with this color. I would buy this spec. Inside and out is gorgeous. I do wish it had the new "KIA" logo though. Very impressed though. Shames the new 'yota Sienna. Paul great work as always. Very much enjoyed this
Recently purchased this exact petrol model Sportage and love it. The DCT and the slight shakiness every once in a while at low speeds actually doesn’t bother me at all. I came from a CVT engine and much prefer the DCT as the gear changes feel more natural to me. I purchased the petrol after test driving both versions of the car earlier this year. Would recommend others test drive both versions as well.

As a current Sedona owner here are the things I was hoping they fixed/changed. -adjustable armrests in the front -more storage cubby’s in front/cupholders -no middle armrests in second row seats when middle seat is removed -super light steering makes highway ride twitchy -some parts are shared with old Sedona. Here are the things that they changed that makes it better. - some cubbies in the rear, trunk compartment -center seat seatbelt doesn’t come down from roof and try to decapitate you -center seat being able to be turned around will be awesome when kid is forward facing.
What about the architecture whatever style front grille? I actually like this one better, but the architecture style is all over the internet too, I’m very confused
I am impatiently waiting for you to review the new Hyundai Tucson when it comes out this year. Wouldn't mind seeing a head to head against Kia Sportage when their new version hits our shores too.
Lived in the USA for 3 years, we bought a mini-van (Toyota Sienna) and loved the road trips we took. The new Carnival smashes the ‘unsexy’ image of minivan looks. Why would you settle for SUV inconvenience? We are buying a Platinum, but I think the base model Carnival grill is great too. It channels Jeep aggressive looks.
I have 3 year old twins and a 22 month old and am honestly considering trading up my Toyota kluger for one of these and I always said I’d never be caught dead In a Mini van but his car looks amazing ! Also the review is amazing, looking forward to watching more of your reviews soon, maybe the 200 series land cruiser 😉😂
Hi, We own 2019 SX, the hook behind co-pilot seat - useful to hang bags, sometimes we put ecobags for our kids to throw rubbish in it to keep the cabin clean. To hang kids stuff most of the time.
Looks good as a van, but apparantly it's a sin to say that in the car community 😂. Can the seating arrangement be configured or set up as a 2 seater? Though 2000+ liters of cargo as a 5 seater is already really impressive.
Nice review, plenty of detail . Would like more info re how many airbags and locations eg any centre ones between passengers and do third row have curtain bags? Cheers
@@bigbirdly thanks. I tried it and it couldn't fit 4 large suitcases. The max it would fit would be 3 large suitcases. We went for hyundai starai instead
Thanks for the comment! We normally film that section in another location. It’s inserted afterwards. It’s also not super accurate because we use the speedometer. Our accurate 0-100 times are in our Dragparisons where we use the VBox.
Another great in-depth review Paul. I noticed they carried over the auto fold mirrors (noticed them folding out from your 3 sec auto sliding door test). Does it retain the chilled glovebox? And why no heads up? Glad the seat colour is no longer just white in the platinum. Looks like another year wait.
Massive let down not having the digital dash that shows blind spot cameras. Uncalibrated steering, no auto wipers and no wireless CarPlay on top spec 😖
@@CarExpertAus I have been waiting 6 months for this model, but based on these features missing (and the wireless Android auto) I'll wait for the 2022 revision release
Completely agree. I’ve been waiting a while for this car. I can wait longer till they finish it. Does that mean around Q4 2021? I was also disappointed to hear the seats aren’t leather - even in the top spec.
As a father of one child, the new Kia Carnival makes me want to multiply that by seven. Wife willing, of course 😂

Here are the things that they changed that makes it better.
- some cubbies in the rear, trunk compartment
-center seat seatbelt doesn’t come down from roof and try to decapitate you
-center seat being able to be turned around will be awesome when kid is forward facing.
This car makes me want to have many children. Great review!
That's what she said
Had 4.
You get over it.
Fast.
😅😅
What about the architecture whatever style front grille? I actually like this one better, but the architecture style is all over the internet too, I’m very confused
I am impatiently waiting for you to review the new Hyundai Tucson when it comes out this year. Wouldn't mind seeing a head to head against Kia Sportage when their new version hits our shores too.
Looking forward to having a drive of the new Tucson!
A high quality review. Thank you !
Thanks!
That would be my choice if i was on the market for a new car. Brilliant design, practical and "reasonably" priced compared to other brands.
I want this minivan, I have a Audi Q7 suv. I use my van for work and I need an upgrade 😊 Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching!
I did not see you mention about the second row, but seems the outboard second row seats are not removable.
They’re fixed in position.
I had a 2015 Kluger and recently switched to the Kia. The Kia uses more fuel but definitely better class of car
We have a 2016 Kia Carnival and its rock solid. Nice to drive and very practical. the diesel has plenty of power.
Gorgeous looking car! I am trading in my 2018 CX9 next year when the proper version arrive.
Great in-depth review. Excellent! Much love❤️ from South Africa 🇿🇦
It's no longer called Sedona in North America , with this new styling it will be Carnival on all markets it seems ...
Hi,
We own 2019 SX, the hook behind co-pilot seat - useful to hang bags, sometimes we put ecobags for our kids to throw rubbish in it to keep the cabin clean. To hang kids stuff most of the time.
I have been waiting for this RV
How did you get all black leather seats? I have only seen two toned seats in all the other reviews for Carnival/Sedona?
Looks good as a van, but apparantly it's a sin to say that in the car community 😂. Can the seating arrangement be configured or set up as a 2 seater? Though 2000+ liters of cargo as a 5 seater is already really impressive.
😅 I know, right! Unfortunately it can’t but you can slide the second row forwards to increase space.
So I use my van to haul products too. Do the 2nd row seat fold down so I can get a 4'X8' sheet of plywood in it, with the rear gate closed?
Wow very impressed! Talk about one with the lot.
Beautiful van, the only additional I feel is if it could be more elevated for more clearance
I love the 8th seat. Now make it AWD kia!
At 17:15, those hooks are for grocery bags. Though not sure why you would put them in the back seat as opposed to the trunk
I like Honda odyssey but now I would pick the kia
Good news!
KIA = Killing It Again

Nice review, plenty of detail . Would like more info re how many airbags and locations eg any centre ones between passengers and do third row have curtain bags? Cheers
Simplicity, reliability, value for money !!! 👌🏆👍
Warranty: 7 Years UNLIMITED KM 🏆
Hi. May I know the size of the suitcase you've used for the review of the boot size? I am wondering if it will fit 4 of the large suitcases?
It’s a mid-sized travel suitcase :-)
I have seen reviews where they fit 4 suitcases
@@bigbirdly thanks. I tried it and it couldn't fit 4 large suitcases. The max it would fit would be 3 large suitcases. We went for hyundai starai instead
It actually makes me, a 19 year old, want one? Why is it so goddam hot
😅😅
Sir , i have a doubt , does this same model car gets released in india. Is this kia carnival s base variant ?
You do the 0-100 test but you never say anything about it afterwards as though it never happened...🤔
I love this lol
Because he doesn't know the time, it is added in during editing. He can't comment on it without knowing it.
Could be worth holding out to next year’s model :-)
@@CarExpertAus I have been waiting 6 months for this model, but based on these features missing (and the wireless Android auto) I'll wait for the 2022 revision release
Completely agree. I’ve been waiting a while for this car. I can wait longer till they finish it. Does that mean around Q4 2021? I was also disappointed to hear the seats aren’t leather - even in the top spec.
When is the new 2024 model coming to Australia?
