I swear 90% of people watching this already have a Kia Carnival, we just want to congratulate ourselves on our excellent taste in people movers 😂 I moved to a Carnival from a 2010 Honda Odyssey. I’m really impressed with how much space it has plus the cameras are brilliant. We have two adult kids with disabilities who live at home. We love being able to drive them, their friends and cousins. Plus we like folding the back seats and having a van to bring our IKEA home 😂 Great for weekend getaways. Fantastic review, you cover a lot of things others miss. Thank you!
I’ve had my GT Line 3 weeks now. Absolutely loving it. The indicator cameras are such a handy tool. This video showed me things I had no idea about hahah thankyou
I love the review. The only thing I could suggest would be doing the same testing around the proving ground with adults or the appropriate weight in each seat to have 4 kids plus adults in all the seats. This would give us real world handling and numbers. Thanks
One thing you didn’t cover was the party trick. You can drive the car standing outside it using the remote. It’s meant to be for getting it in and out of tight spaces if you can’t get the door open.
This. I have a sorento and twice now have had to climb into the drivers seat via passenger seat while pregnant because someone parked too close to me 😢 so this feature is epic
My mum bought a brand new 2019 year model carnival at the end of 2018 the one below the platinum and her powered sliding doors have been Greta and have never had an issue
Just picked mine up two weeks ago. I did so much research, I was swayed by the Mifa as I would have loved the captain’s chair, and full recliner and electrical leg rests like the model has overseas, but unfortunately Kia has chosen not to do in Australia. But it was so user friendly and comfortable to use. The Kids and I adore it, definitely no regrets. Only issue so far is it keeps telling me to put my hands on the steering wheel, and I haven’t lifted either hand off the wheel at all, and have at 10/2 position. Maybe it’s because I’m pretty thin lol.
Saw one of these in a carpark last week and didn’t recognise the wheels on it as I thought they had been swapped from a kia ev9, then I realised they’d done a facelift. Looks great!
Kia always delivers, except the actual delivery of the vehicle. 18 month waitlists for that gorgeous new Sorento basically lost them a customer. We loved the car though.
Could be the dealership, I was interested in the Sorento, saw online people were getting theirs 6 month ahead of estimated timeframe. I phoned closest dealership and asked if I could view it. I was told it wasn’t arriving in the country until July, that only old model was available. Disappointed I went to other makes to view cars I was comparing it with. Since many were side by side we ended up walking through another Kia dealership. I saw last years Carnival, and loved the look, I was immediately approached respectfully inside, I mentioned about Carnival, they offered to show me latest model. I mentioned that I had initially been interested in Sorento but had been saddened to know they were not in the country yet. The salesperson immediately pointed it out, saying they had been brought in country wide months before, they were unsure why the other dealership had given me incorrect information. The other dealership called me to see if I was interested in the older Sorento model, I mentioned that I was now looking at the carnival as they had newer models of Sorento and Carnival despite them saying they were not coming into the country. I was then told I must have misunderstood, that they just didn’t have in stock, but could order it in. I told them thanks but no thanks. Ordered the carnival at second dealership and picked it up 2 weeks later. I couldn’t be happier with their service.
I knew long before watching this video that my next car would be a Kia Carnival. They just make so much sense. I'll probably get it with the hybrid powertrain, but I'm still seriously considering the diesel.
Yay I was waiting for your review 😂 our 2018 Kia’s head unit just what itself so it’s either a 4 month wait with no camera, radio or climate control or upgraded… would love to see a vs a new Hyundai Sante fa
On the power doors. We had 2 Chrysler Grand Voyagers with electric doors where I worked and they both would break quite a lot. Nothing to do with any kids playing with them. The wiring had very cheap brittle insulating casings that would break apart as they moved with the door and when the bare wire was exposed as the wires bent the door would stop moving and you'd have to get out and open or close it manually. I would hope that the Carnival are better built than that though.
The new petrol V6 goes pretty well all things considered. Regular fuel consumption on mine has been between 9.0-9.4L/100 and into the 6L/100 when highway driving. Think I've also recorded the fastest 1/4mile time in this new platform in Aus too.
I like Kia and what they ve been doing lately but did i just see an old school yellow non-LED No. plate lights? Com'on, How much money are they saving for going cheap on that?
Thank you so much for a detailed review. I was laughing a lot on the Reverse Scene haha. Is there any review coming soon for the Santa Fe 2024 Calligraphy? 😊
i agree! i think alot of australia-only designs are dumbed down to suit the market, which, is actually changing given the shifting demographics due to immigration and standards of living. But somehow, KIA (and other makers) only import these sad 8-seater vehicles and not the more plush 7-seater ones with captain's chairs in the second row, like the Honda Odyssey. Thats why theres a lot of grey imports of Alphards and Vellfires!
I asked this as almost went with the LDV Mifa for the second row. As I much preferred that layout. I was told they had done customer surveys and monitored other models with that option and it just hadn’t proven popular with the Australian market. Such a shame as I love the Captains chairs with armrest’s, full recline, electric legrests, heated and cooled seats etc. I gave my kids the choice, and I honestly thought they would go with the Mifa, but they knew I preferred driving the Kia, the infotainment system was much easier to reach while driving, and my husband preferred Kia’s reputation, so they kindly opted for the Kia. I have noted a couple of other brands initially said they would be doing captains chairs, and have changed their minds. Only the Mifa and the Palisade in this size seem to be an option 😢
Maybe for the first 100k miles until they die like my last Sedona did. They still have a number of long term reliability issues compared to the Honda and Toyotas. But they are sharp looking!
Paul, You sound a little Bias with the review towards the Carnival. I think you over glaze on the build quality with lots of fake and plastic bits. is over priced for a car that depreciates and fuel economy is pretty bad. Unfortunately there is not much options in Australia for Minivan these days. But 70k for a MPV just a little too much.
You do realise there is a base version? I have the previous diesel version and fuel economy has been 6.6l/100km. Not bad for a vehicle that weighs around 2 tonnes
it's a good car, good review. You used to complain about no physical buttons on Chinese cars, you never do that for any Korean cars. Make me wonder Korean pays you more for making this video. Different forms of advertisement.
You guys are very confusing and I don't know why you say opposite contradicting things on different occasions. In your podcast about the New Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, you asked about their opinion of a small hybrid engine on such vehicle. They answered that it's underpowered and won't get the performance of the diesel, especially when also towing! Now you say the diesel is underpowered and you want to see the hybrid here, and it will have more boost! Is this an advertising or independent car journalism?
Love the look of the Kia Carnival inside and out except for the start button which looks terrible! How can you design such a nice car and then make the start button so cheap and nasty looking?
Give me an Alphard or Vellfire any day of the week, they blow this Kia out of the water in terms of comfort. It’s a shame that in Australia we can only get them as an import, but in Japan they are at a close price point to the Carnival’s AUS RRP, and far cheaper near new.
Best thing is they update the power steering to electric, next month I m coming to Melbourne to spend 20 yo 25 days. In that time definitely see and drive this vehicle

I honestly don’t understand why you don’t have more views and followers. One of the best and comprehensive reviewers on UA-cam. Best of luck!
Ok wow, never thought I would actually like a minivan, this actually looks super modern and sporty!

Me too I want to know about sensor for Boot and door which opens automatically when close, that will be so useful
Just got one of the last pre-facelift platinum models and love it, life changing space and flexibility
Having access to The Lang Lang Proving Ground is the silver bullet of car review. Thanks to Paul and all the team.

Hold on kids! 😂
hold your thumb on the lane departure button for more than 3 seconds and it will shut it all off without needing to go into the touch screen menus
That’s what we did. The touchscreen menus are for the speed sign recognition.

If only it was lowered, was RWD, had a turbo and a 6 speed manual it would sell like hot cakes.😅

everything is good for a family car, but just one question: why they don't import 7 seat (2:2:3) version? the second row will be much better than this

How does compare with Toyota Sienna in NA
Multi beam headlights?
Does that mean active shadowing?
Any carnival owners here able to tell me if a XXL 29er mountain bike would wheel into the back with the 3rd row down and the middle 2nd seat removed?
They need to make an AWD
why?
I would prefer that, as I live on acreage and in wet weather the driveway can be a bit slippery for a 2WD. But I’m risking it.
I mean that’s 100% fair! I wasn’t really expecting many to have a carnival on average but I get it if you have a need for lots of seats!
My new carwow😊
With help me car expert ? Do we get quote from different dealers or our contact gets shared to different dealers and we get harassed from there :P.
That has to be the biggest indicator light ever
Why the petrol? Are you doing a review on the petrol because of US market….

Can the second row be removed?
What engine options available?
I’ll take the Toyota Granvia Vx premium for the rear seats.
Weird how they made it completely different looking fromt and rear than the American market version.
