If it is bad, i don't notice it. I have tuned my ears to the way my studio is set up. and i believe my mixes come out just as clear and balanced as professional studio mixes. It works for me. Good luck with your setup.
Looks like a nice place to make music. There's light in the room! A lot of us live in a windowless cave so we can lose track of what day it is. Nice setup.
Thanks for this video very cool set up 👍 im looking to buy rokit 5 for use with a psrsx900 and a roland handsonic small drum pad hiw are these on your keyboard do they handle some decent bass ? Im not trying to rattle windows just sound solid
I had the same issue with my KRKs. The issue with mine was grounding. I fixed this by going to my local electrics store and buying a RCA GROUND LOOP ISOLATOR for about $10. Worked a treat.
@hitthedeckstudios you can plug your ipod into them, you will just need adapters and a splitter. using an audio interface is probably the easiest way to get sound from your computer, instruments or devices to play through your monitors
really nice studio.... and nice pc.... Windows ftw!! lol but any way quick question does the BEHRINGER ULTRAGAIN PRO MIC2200 work with usb audio interfaces??? thank you
If you're still looking to upgrade you're audio interface, I recommend an M-Audio Profire 2626. Its an amazing piece of equipment, I use it every day. Its is firewire and compatible with almost everything!
@hitthedeckstudios I checked it out, it seems to have midi and usb connections. You chould be able to just hook up the usb cable to your pc and record midi via usb.
You have a nice homestudio! I have also a studio but I am working without a modern computer and all my synths are hardware.I like your Yamaha Motif Xs a lot! I did some sound research on the internet last year - in search of samples I can use in my music - I recorded the sounds of more than 200 synths! and the Yamaha Motif series I found one of the best!So keep your synth ! Greetz Jason
nice video man a great set up you have.can you please tell me what cables i would need to buy to connect my yamaha hs80m speakers to my yam,aha cp5 stage piano. thanks
@hitthedeckstudios I perfer the Apex 460 tube condenser, it has a really nice warm tone. you cant plug the krk's directly in to your pc, you will need some sort of interface.
The monitors are fine. Nearfield monitors like that are listened to close up at low volume. I would raise them up to somewhere near ear level and insulate them from the desk with some dense foam (Aurolex pad, etc) or even some styrofoam or a towel or something. Just to prevent the monitors from vibrating into the desk.
I like your Home Studio Video very much...I see that every time...I don't know, but I like just fot the Yamaha Motif...I have a same, the Motif XS7...God Bless You!!!
Hey cool studio!I have a couple of questions since i just started building my own studio :) 1. Will it sound bad if i record singing and such in a mic in a regular room or do i need some sort of isolation for the acoustics?2. Can you recommend any good mic around 100-150 us dollars for singing and record acoustic guitar and 3 Can i use a mixer to connect my electric guitar to or should i buy something like the Line6 POD, i would really appreciate if you answered any of my questions!
Been looking at different setups and decided to go on youtube! Wanted to know where you got the table and what it ran you! It's what I've been looking for ! I'm using a Motif XF8 THANKS
there is a drop down section under the effects rack on each channel where you can select the automation. yes, you can automate all the effects including all the parameters that come with any plugin.
Fantastic setup you got there. I'm a Mac user like most home recordists and when I saw the start of this video I decided I was going to post a comment saying how refreshing it was to see a home studio based around a Windows system. But then your PC had to go and show itself up and remind me why I chose a Mac for my studio. Great work though, well done.
according to alot of my friends and the forums it does make a difference. You wouldn't know the difference if you have not been to a professional/treated studio. So you really can't say yourself. But if you really say so, then that gives me hope for my home studio, as i am getting new monitors and its hard to position my work area centered because its so small and the other things in my bedroom make it even harder.
@hitthedeckstudios It depends, Some midi keyboards have usb midi where you can use a regular usb cable to transmit midi. If it only has midi connections then you will need some sort of interface to get the midi to your computer.
@bobslove s you can use both, but the fast track pro has a preamp built in so you dont really need the art tube mp, although the art tube mp will give you more gain and its a tube preamp so it will sound better than using the fast track pro preamp.
Hi. I like your video very much. I like how you have all organized in your desktop. I'm setting up a Home Studio and your video gave me a lot of ideas. I have very similar parts, but my DAW is 14 channel Phonic. In the video you have a M-Audio interface but you mentioned to upgrade it with another interface with more channels. So my question is where do you plan to set this bigger interface in your desktop? Thanks and congratulations again
You can get good sounds at home if you take the time and don't rush it. But it is subjective. If you go professional and really tweak the setup you can get great results. As long as it's flat response then it's good. Do you want radio ready songs ? Then it's good learn the steps of mix and master. This is a nice studio. It's inevitable we all want to upgrade.
@bobslove It seems to have both xlr and 1/4" inputs/outputs. so you will need a cable from your source (mic would be an xlr and guitar will be 1/4" cable) to the input, then an xlr or 1/4" cable from the output of the tube mp to your fast track pro.
@bigbezo420 the difference is the type of pickup. A ribbon mic has a ribbon in it that pickes up the sound waves and a condenser has a circular diaphram that captures sound. I believe they both need 48 volt phantom power to run. I don't know much about ribbon mics but as for condensers their great for vocals and general recording. I think ribbon mics are geared more for warm vocals. Hope it helps, Brent
Hi Brent, thanks for the video, I'm a web programmer and I'm planning to develop some video games, I got interested in making my own music, for now I'm just studying the music theory and already checking what kind of piano keyboards are out there and such... I was worried falling short on the amount of keys, would you think a 61key keyboard would be enough to compose some scores and melodies? I don't see myself singing nor playing live nor doing it professionally, just composing music. I also stumbled upon something called MIDI keyboard controllers and now I'm kind of more undecided, I don't want to spend more than 130usd on the keyboard if possible, the Roll Up 88s or 61s key keyboards look very tempting too. Any suggestions in the approach? thank you
Hello, i had the same thoughts when it came to purchasing a keyboard. I opted for the 61 key keyboard just due to my budget. I can make do with the 61 keys by using the octave jump and transpose features. If you are composing songs where you think you are going to need a long range on the keys i would definitely get an 88 key. a lot of keyboards now have midi control functions built in. Just do some research on what keyboards are out there for your budget. hope that helps.
What is the best daw for hip hop/ rap? I'm using fl studio right now but if there's something that works better I don't mind paying a higher price for it
If I want to open a recording studio in my home town for local artists or college kids, would a setup like yours be good enough to do mixes/recording, and then making CDs? Is monitor speakers more important or how acoustically sound a room is, in order to get good listening/recording environments?
@hitthedeckstudios it is not 100% necessary, there are ways around it if you were planning to hook up an ipod. I would recommend a small interface then you can plug multiple things in to it. the cheapest one i can find is something like the Behringer UCA202, if you want to spend a little more you can get a m-audio or tascam unit for between $100 and $200.
@DarrenMalla umm via XLR connection? and do the krk give you good sound? (I'm going to but the fast track pro this week and the speakers next summer) would you recomand these monitors?
Hey, I don't mind the Behringer Ultragain but its not the best. I get noise on the one channel when I turn the gain up. I would definitely go for the Presonus Studio Channel over the Ultragain. You're getting a much better, higher quality preamp. So save up and go for that one, thats my advice.
That comes from your audio card (M-audio) device. Get a better interface, try a Focusrite and if it still happens replace the actual sound card in your computer.
Bonez CEO I'm pretty sure the internal sound-card doesn't make a difference if you are using an external one (i.e. audio interfaces). It would however if you had everything routed through the headphone/microphone/auxiliary inputs of your computer.
@MrOgier25 Well my monitors were $179 canadian each, so not a bad price. as for a keyboard i would search around for one that has alot of preset sounds that fit your music style or find one that can load external sounds on to it. as for an interface you will need one with at least 2 inputs if you wish to record stereo. you also need a daw, for trance i would recommend cubase or fl studio. if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
coool man i got the same rokit 5" and the same shure mic ( both are great btw ), but i just recently made a switch to apple after 12 years of using a pc, so i got the duet 2 for an audio interface, and gonna get my macbook pro i7 quad core very soon, cool set up u got there bro, peace
What monitors? Have you checked out Equator Audio? Their monitors are designed with zero phase cancellation and sell direct!! A pair of near fields costs only $399 They also have proximity adjustment setting which allow you for compensating on where you set them up.
hey bro, awsome set up. What do you recomend what kind of PC to get for recording. Plz let me know. So don't get one that is to slow for live audio. Looking for under $600.
The Sure SM57 is meant for loud sound levels like drums, guitar amps ect. If you are trying to record acoustic guitar or soft vocals you're going to have to boost the level way up to get a decent signal. If you're boosting the signal too much with lower quality equipment you will get unwanted noise and sounds. if your looking for a good all round mic i would recommend a condenser mic. you can get an entry level one for under $100.
@yungmexonline the first thing i can think of would be your systems sound settings. go to your control panel and under the sound settings make sure your fast track is set to the default audio device. other than that i would just fiddle around with the connections until something works. hope that helps
@Jamalsish Yes, you can play without monitoring. but you can monitor with regular pc speakers, all monitoring is, is listening to the sound being produced. you dont actually need monitors to do that. any speakers will work. just hook them up to the output of your interface.
ok, now you must compose the mega hit of this 2012 ok? or what's the meanning of this? i got a home studio too but i feel slow motion when i'm composing
@jebonlalok if your just getting one mic i wouldn't recomend the ultragain pro because its a 2 channel mic preamp. for a single channel preamp i would recommend the Art Tube MP.
@KevinPeterzon The monitors can produce up to 106dB, then it starts to distort a bit. they are very loud for the size. I usually have the volume at half and its still quite loud.
hey i got a question, can you hook up that microphone and the studio monitors to that m-audio interface at once? i know you don't got the mic hooked up to it but could you? if not, is there one that you can? i got a mixer but i rather get one of those, let me know, thanks btw you got a clean setup, i like everything mostly the motif xs, krks and the big screen
Hey this is a pretty nice setup. I'd say your next upgrade should be to get a different interface. Although I do mainly post production, I can say that even with your pre-amp, the M-Audio is dramatically reducing the overall quality of your productions. Everything else looks great man! Interesting mic too!
it all depends on what type of music your making. fl studio is great for electronic and hip hop because of its easy step sequencer and midi capabilities. Sonar is more suitable for rock because of its better waveform manipulation and sequencing. I have tried both sonar and fl studio but I'm not an expert on either, so i hope that helps a bit.
I have the same headset it works very good, But i use the KRK headset to and that works VERY good to! So you should try that and you should try Cubase eddeting program, and you can try the Yamaha monitors i use those. Do you got any tips from me just come with it! :)
@bob91stan Yes it does, it has a midi in and out. You can play any vsti instrument like native instruments plugins or ez drummer. I can also use midi out to play sounds on my keyboard.
Hey, nice studio. I understand that you are recording or rock or hip hop because you have a microphone. My question is what I need or do not need from your studies (in terms of the price monitors, keyboards and so on) to make trance music? I hope something will be prompted. Have fun
It's call "IKEA Jerker Desk" Classic! Discontinued years ago, I had 6 of these & sold a few & gave one away, I have 2 black desk now the best IKEA desk ever made by far!! with swivel side shelves on the side to mount studio monitors, try looking for used ones on Craigslist you be surprise to find them there for cheap! between $40 to $100 @ most depending on condition, 5 Jerker desk I got @ the time from Craigslist it was under $60!...Good Luck with the Hunt!
@kevin I've been considering going Mac. I have a s!!t old PC and never did any music on it. I was going to upgrade to a new Mac and go from there. Would you recommend that?

Thanks this helps me so much, now I can start my home stereo!
almost, the fast track pro records and outputs the sound to the monitors. the ultragain is to boost/amplify the microphones.
"Two inputs isn't really enough for me" He says, having exactly two microphones.
Just messin man, cool set up :)
yeah Ben, two vocals and a guitar, or a vocal, guitar and keyboard, he may have more instruments, as he says 2 inputs aren't enough for him...
Dude relax
he'll need an input for his guitars
Ben Simpson vvriueyeupyqu
lol, girlfriend in the mirror at 3:41 like "dude, really?"
u got good eyes but u shld focus more lol
@ferfr01 you will need an audio interface to get the sound from your daw on your computer to your krk monitors.
Hi you have a great home studio!
Uriel Biffano
I get all of my inspiration from those talented men :)
great video man.... condenser or dynmamic.. which one do you recommend¡?

I'm a musician & I use exactly the same set-up as yours except the DAW and audio interface. I recommend Cubase 5 to you.
Great, thanks for share with us
@drqbex Conderser, it is a better all round mic then a dynamic and you get a much louder signal to work with.
I would definetly consider taking the studio out of the corner if possible
Hi Brent, thanks for the video, I'm a web programmer and I'm planning to develop some video games, I got interested in making my own music, for now I'm just studying the music theory and already checking what kind of piano keyboards are out there and such...

i had the same desk at my previous studio setup, i bought it yeeears ago in ikea. great because of adjustment abilities

"its very handy although i dont use it so much".. :) i liked that
nice i have the same m audio fast track pro. also how are the krks are they good for mixing
@BrentThePianoGuy wow!!! congratulations! now I like you studio more!!!!
@hitthedeckstudios it is not 100% necessary, there are ways around it if you were planning to hook up an ipod. I envy the great hardware.

Hey, very nice set up !
Ever have any issues with random static? I am using the M-Audio Mk2 with the KRK 5 Rokit speakers.
That comes from your audio card (M-audio) device. Get a better interface, try a Focusrite and if it still happens replace the actual sound card in your computer.
Bonez CEO
I'm pretty sure the internal sound-card doesn't make a difference if you are using an external one (i.e. audio interfaces).

Great set-up!
you could always put a mixer between you inputs and interface to up your ins.
i love you studio, and i love tha fact that you are using windows...
@Jamalsish Yes, you can play without monitoring. but you can monitor with regular pc speakers, all monitoring is, is listening to the sound being produced. you dont actually need monitors to do that. any speakers will work. just hook them up to the output of your interface.
Thanks for the recommendation, but since i have made the video i've switched to logic pro. I tried cubase but i could not get used to the interface.
nice set up bro wish i had such hardware
Great video. very informative. thanks!
Cool studio
How did you create the automation? Can I use it for any effect, reverb, delay, etc? How about passing on that mastering software also? lol.
Impressive set up bro. Can u make tutorial on mastering in audition?
ok, now you must compose the mega hit of this 2012 ok? or what's the meanning of this? i got a home studio too but i feel slow motion when i'm composing
fantastic impression for creators....keep it up buddy....
@BrentThePianoGuy Do you still have your old interface??
Nice set up...where did you get your desk?
@jebonlalok if your just getting one mic i wouldn't recomend the ultragain pro because its a 2 channel mic preamp. for a single channel preamp i would recommend the Art Tube MP.
@KevinPeterzon The monitors can produce up to 106dB, then it starts to distort a bit. they are very loud for the size. I usually have the volume at half and its still quite loud.
Seen a lot of tutorials out there. Yours is simple yet effective. What did you say the name of your ppd software is? Thx 4 posting
hey i got a question, can you hook up that microphone and the studio monitors to that m-audio interface at once? i know you don't got the mic hooked up to it but could you? if not, is there one that you can? i got a mixer but i rather get one of those, let me know, thanks btw you got a clean setup, i like everything mostly the motif xs, krks and the big screen
How do you like the 5's? I have a fairly small room so i guess those would make more sense than the bigger ones for me... right?
hey man nice studio! how do you have you're fast track pro hook up? im having some troble with that, thanks man
Hey this is a pretty nice setup. I'd say your next upgrade should be to get a different interface. Although I do mainly post production, I can say that even with your pre-amp, the M-Audio is dramatically reducing the overall quality of your productions. Everything else looks great man! @BrentThePianoGuy where are ure monitors going in to, what cable? do you need a preamp so the monitotrs will work?
krk's ok for mixing? or extra bass will be harmful for a clean mixing and mastering
Very cool setup dude! Funny thing I have the same desk, ikea a think? Is that your track in the background? Funky stuff! Nice vid, Thanks!
@bob91stan Yes it does, it has a midi in and out. You can play any vsti instrument like native instruments plugins or ez drummer. I can also use midi out to play sounds on my keyboard.
Nice home studio.
Cool set up bro!!
Hey, nice studio. I understand that you are recording or rock or hip hop because you have a microphone. My question is what I need or do not need from your studies (in terms of the price monitors, keyboards and so on) to make trance music? I hope something will be prompted. Have fun
