The proper way to record music vocals for amateurs and pros is to have an absorbing baffle or blanket hanging directly behind the singer. What's in front of the singer or on the sides doesn't matter. The reason for that is the live side of the microphone is facing the singer when the mic is set to a cardioid pattern. You want to stop the sound bouncing off the wall behind the singer and returning into the live side of the mic. The mic is dead on the front and already rejecting room noise. What's going on behind the singer is what makes the nasty room noise. It's preferable to have a big live open room in front of the singer so it doesn't sound so dead and stuffy. The slight bleed of the cardioid pattern on the sides of the mic give the vocals some space unlike the dead closet sound. No charge for today's audio lesson. Most professional audio engineers don't know either. The totally dead vocal sound works better for talking voice-over artist.

Love the simplicity, clarity & professionalism of the video. A lot of tutorials on YT use language assuming we have enough knowledge & experience to know what they’re talking about. Honestly, I’m typically still lost. This one’s on point. Considering that template. Thank you!
@@ReidDaKid That part was (& still is) the difficult part to grasp. If I understand it correctly, he means recording with the plugins/effects you intend to use, so that as your recording the song already sounds closer to the finished sound. This will also help fuel the artists and create or keep them in a Zone. Also, depending on whether you’re mixing it yourself or sending to someone, many engineers benefit from a wet mix (wet = with effects/more finished sound). I’m not sure if I’m explaining what you were asking, but if you’re asking what a template is; it’s a blue print or a pre-setup session within your DAW that will have all the pluggins and settings you typically use or need for a new session. Depending on your DAW you should have the ability to create your own template. This option is usually found within the “File” menu of the program. Alternatively, you can also purchase a template to use, like the ones he provides. If you consider buying a template, make sure you read the details to confirm you have everything required. For instance, there may be a template that has autotune settings in it, but you must have your own licensed copy of Autotune. Also, (if purchasing template) make sure you have the correct version of the software. For example, I once purchased a template that was meant for the highest tier version of my DAW and it didn’t work, I must’ve missed that in the description. My bad for long response, I wasn’t fully sure which part you were asking about so I responded to everything I thought you might ask. Feel free to ask more questions. I still consider myself new to music, but I’m glad to help when/how I can. ✌🏼

optimal recording lvl - 16 to - 6 db? Wait recording level with or without vocal preset, cause I record without presets (but the artist can hear him self with the preset) so does the raw record bus must be in the range of - 16 to - 6 db or even with plug ins? Cause not everyone record with preset some people like me just sidechain a preset so the artist can hear his voice with preset but the vocals record raw so I still can change everything after if I want to...
FINALLY!!!!! Okay so I LOOOOOOVE The Backstreet Boys and I for the VERY LONGEST time (I am 40y/o) I ALWAYS wondered how they came up with the adlibs but you JUST did it in "real time" Thanks!
You are very knowledgeable when it comes to engineering, no doubt. The one thing I do different tho is "templates." I am a true believer in a very good raw take before I add anything to it. Artists that I record (including myself) I encourage them to per-fect & accept their raw vocal before I mix it. Not only does that help create their studio voice (which takes time to develop & control), it'll help during live performances. Recording into a mic while hearing yourself with templates does encourage, no doubt, but it heavily affects the control and development of their natural voice. Like stated, that will in-turn affect live performances. Michael Jackson was big on this; he'd redo a take over and over and over until that "raw" vocal was perfect. I'm sure we all heard MJ in the studio, raw. It's fucking perfect. Templates (auto-tune & EQ) will ruin this. No hate, my brotha, just an opinion I feel you should read.

Yea you never been in a real studio, almost no artist wants to or feels comfortable recording raw into the mic, they want slight eq,compression, reverb, autotune, at the very least
No doubt u got to sound original if a raw lead can sound 💯 without compression, EQS or Auto tune then bruhhh and you'd never be afraid of the stage too that's why you're a musician ain't it
I've been on this path, trying to get a better sound out of my vocal recordings. I NEEDED this video! Everything you said was 💣💥💣💥 There's TONS of great tips here!
I love your voice man, such a good, emotive singer, with a unique, rock-like vocal tone. God bless you in Jesus name. This is a great video for beginners! wonderfully informative, wasn't what i was lookin for at this stage in my game but man boy howdy I wish i had run up on this earlier. nice to remind and confirm tho for sure
I’ve been watching your videos man, you got some great tips to recording. I’m glad I passed by your page, I’m trying to up my music because it feels like somethings missing. I’m tired of recording with dry vocals and I want to hear what I want it to sound like. I just got auto tune and my DAW is FL Studio, I’m trying to hear myself with effects but I can only hear myself with overlapping vocals when I route my mic bus to my effects bus. I was hoping you could help me out with this dilemma. I want to be able to hear one voice with my effects not all the other voices that are overlapping for some reason.
Ive been subbed to this channel for some years now, and wow you dont fail to suprise!! Goosebumps when you came in with them adlibs. Keeg grinding, greetings from Norway
incredible video! this sh worth money! thank you man 🙏🏽, that's a lot to take in but what a great guide. i love the part about projecting the voice, which is what i do when i sing to myself, so i'll definitely use the technique described when recording vocals or rapping honestly man, thank you 💪🏽🥹 this is sick! 🔊
Dope information on vocals, thanks for this video. You’ve been doing ya thang for a while man, glad to see you come up. Love your personality to man, teaching and persona is important, it’s not boring it’s interesting when you teach. Worth the investment on the presets.

@@Mope333 yet, I have a 100$ mic and get the same results. And all I learned came from his tutorials and practice.

The thing about this guy, he knows how to relay information. And that's why I watched this whole video.

What do you recommend me to search up for more about this topic!?

Yea you never been in a real studio, almost no artist wants to or feels comfortable recording raw into the mic, they want slight eq,compression, reverb, autotune, at the very least
@@cmili4039 that’s because these artist nowadays are want to sound like everybody and not themselves. I’m 6 years in the game and record raw
No doubt u got to sound original if a raw lead can sound 💯 without compression, EQS or Auto tune then bruhhh and you'd never be afraid of the stage too that's why you're a musician ain't it
Honestly needed this I’ve been having writers and music blocks recently and listening to this reallly changed the way I look at my editing
The biggest thing I took from this is take your time I think everyone gets so lost into doing 10 songs a day
Thank you for this awesome help im currently working on my first album!

wonderfully informative, wasn't what i was lookin for at this stage in my game but man boy howdy I wish i had run up on this earlier. nice to remind and confirm tho for sure
Emphasize every word and sentence builds great performance delivery.
Much love

thank you man 🙏🏽, that's a lot to take in but what a great guide. i love the part about projecting the voice, which is what i do when i sing to myself, so i'll definitely use the technique described when recording vocals or rapping
