I came to the Lord 40 years ago as a very lost, unsaved Jew in the middle of a psychotic episode... I was drawn to a neighbor because of a love I saw in her that was different than anything I had ever experienced... She introduced me to My Messiah and prayed with me to receive Him as My Savior and Lord! As I started reading the Scriptures and praying, I started understanding what a great salvation I had received,... Within a year of giving my life to Jesus, I was totally healed of a serious, chronic mental disorder... I knew that there was nothing else that I wanted to do for the rest of my life other than to love, worship and serve this awesome and loving God that I was coming to know better and better... I didn’t come to Jesus to escape hell... I came to Jesus because I was DEAD, and I was presented the GOOD NEWS that Jesus had come to give me LIFE! Still rejoicing in My Savior and Lord 40 years later!

@@mahlonfisher2590 Today's church has been taught that Jesus did it all. Nothing is expected of them except to _believe on Jesus._ Everybody gets a participation trophy. They might _say_ that God cares if they sin or not but they don't _live_ like they think He cares. Go to any church in America and it will be full of people who live together out of wedlock, who are divorced and remarried, who are homosexuals, who cheat people in their business dealings, etc. God says to have nothing to do with those kinds of "Christians," to not even eat with them.
_I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people- not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. Do not even eat with such people._

God’s love is infinitely greater yet my love for my children is unconditional. Does that mean my child won’t suffer the consequences of their actions? Of course not! We have the opportunity to choose to listen and obey the Spirit or not. We will receive the consequences of our actions, except for those found in Christ Jesus. This mean God has predestined His children into salvation and they WILL ALL be 100% saved!! They cant be saved, then unsaved! A baby cant go back inside a mother's womb. If we are born again we cannot be unborn again. Thus Gods love is unconditional. If Gods love is NOT unconditional then this is to say christs sacrifice isn't very secure. It's to say let me try and be good today so that God will not stop loving me. Let me work my way into His good books. We can never work our way into Christs good books, if we are truly in christ we will always be in christ. If we fall away into sin and die in our sin, we were never saved in the first place. Gods love is unconditional, it has to be otherwise no one would make it to heaven. No one would be good enough. In a sense God's love is conditional because he placed the conditions on himself, but because he did that it's unconditional towards us. This is the paradox of The Gospel. God has to be just and loving at the same time so he places the burden of the conditions upon himself.

      Good question-
This simply means that God will favor some in this life, and disfavor others; it all depends on God’s purpose at that time.
Paul answers your question, also, in Romans 9:14-16:
“What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all!
      For he says to Moses,
"I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.”

The point isn’t to escape hell, the point is to have imputed righteousness because of God’s love that was expressed on the cross. That weather has been fulfilled for those that believe. I don't know what Bible these two men read, but I know for a fact from the Christian Bible that God's love is unconditional. That isn't to say that Jesus Christ didn't have to shed his blood and die on the cross for remission from sin, but that was done for everyone because God unconditionally loves everyone. Jesus came not to purchase love or to make love from God possible the sinners. Jesus is not God protecting us from God, which is a major heresy. First John says, among every other passage on the subject, that the father sent Jesus because he loved every sinner, even his worst enemies.

I have a rant, hopefully it ends up being coherent enough.
What annoys me is a select few Christians seem to think its their duty to embody a hateful attitude towards those who have yet to believe in Jesus. You see some of those street preachers who make threats to invoke a petty primitive fear in people, like a shotgun Christianity. "Convert now! God hates you because you're a sinner and if you don't oblige, you'll go to God's torture chamber where he will torture you forever in righteous fury!" To me, people like that lack a sober and holistic view of who God is, as was and is perfectly revealed in Jesus. Their problem is not new, its an ancient problem, and Jesus completely condemned that attitude in the pharisees. I've heard testimonies of people who were like that and changed, and when they would reflect back on their heart when behaving that way, they said they had no love in their hearts.
Jesus came to save, not to put the world under judgment, because we're already under condemnation by being separate from him. He told us to follow his example, and he commanded us not to condemn others, but to receive his righteous spirit and share the love and holiness of God.
My view of hell, is that its a place where God isn't. I get a pretty good picture of what hell is when I imagine earth without God's presence, and is where people go who want the absence of God. I believe hell is a place of privation, agony and torment. Its a privation of all things good, including hope and love. I view it like a prison, where people deceive one another and tear each other apart in every way, all in the name of self-worship.

I don’t reject free will, rather when I talk about man being incapable-in and of himself-of making a choice to love God first, then I’m talking about will within the nature of a creature (or creaturely will). A for instance, you are perfectly free to grab a child and boil it for food, you can overpower the kid and nobody is stopping you (all things being equal), BUT it is absolutely outside of your nature to do this...I imagine even if you were dying of hunger you would not even entertain the notion.
A rabbit, if locked in a cage and two bowls were placed in front of it (lettuce and raw meat), the nature of the rabbit’s will would dictate it’s choice. A lion, even if starved and you placed in a cage with only a bowl of veggies, it’s nature would sooner let it die than freely choose that food. Man, in his natural state, is like those animals, in that when given a choice that he is free to act upon, will never choose God; Why not? Because He is incapable, in his natural state, of pleasing God (Romans 8:7-8). It’s truly a humbling thing to realize that you had no part to play in your salvation, the choice was made by God Himself in eternity past; man talk about grace! Now don’t get me wrong, I know that assaults the sensibilities of man because it crushes the last vestige of pride to understand that even the choice to love God was only made possible because He first loved you...I don’t think I’m wrong here but if I am then please help me to understand.

You think God hates Satan or any of his creatures who sin against him? His Holiness is a different matter it is what causes him to be fair and just and righteous and if he goes against his Holiness he cannot be God. If God's love is not unconditional why would he die for sinners who he knows would choose against him and go to Hell?? Why didn't he just die for some instead of all? It's our decision to not love God back that keeps us away from him, God continues to love.

God's love is not quantitatively conditional - no amount of service, religious striving, repeating of prayers, keeping of the Law, in short no merit of out own does anything with regard to our salvation. Our works don't make us more righteous.
God's love is qualitatively conditional in that it is dependent on our relationship with Him through Christ. Trusting in Christ as our sin-substitute, trusting in Him as our living hope, trusting in Him to be our advocate, trusting in Him for our forgiveness... in essence having a living relationship with Him through prayer as our lifeline for everything is the only "condition" necessary for salvation.

God is love and love is just and therefore must judge sin which is contrary to love. "By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments" (1 Jn. 5:2). If we do not love others by keeping His commandments we will be judged for not loving as He loves. In other words, because God is love He is to be feared by those who do not love which is evident by their disobedience. "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God" (Heb. 10:31). Not for the just, but the unjust. Christ says in Matthew 10:28, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” "For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience (Eph. 5:5-6). "That all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness" (2 Thess. 2:12). People leave the church primarily because they love their sin more than they love God. If that is the case with you, you should indeed fear the God of love who must necessarily judge the sin of not loving God and neighbor by disobedience to His word (Jn. 14:21).

@@TheWSYNkatevy153 I am very much aware of the verses you refer to but I believe you are taking them out of context. “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee” is also found in Deuteronomy 31:6; Joshua 1:5; 1 Chronicles 28:20. Basically the same expression is found in each of those places, and all of them contain the principle that though the faithful and obedient might face hardship or persecution they are to trust in the fact that He will never leave them nor forsake them. This has nothing whatsoever to do with not forsaking those who profess to be Christian yet walk in disobedience to His word. It is absolutely true that NOTHING can separate the true Christian from God's love. However, this must be understood in the context of the biblical description of what a true Christian is. One of the clearest is found in 1 John 3:9, 10, which says, “No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.” To interpret those verses in the sense that God will love us and never forsake us irrespective of how we live, and many have, is to pervert the truth according to Scripture.

Do I frame him for murder and give him life in the big house with the rapists? Do I shoot him and say it was the just recompensation for my indignity? Do I immortalize him and put him in a padded room with an infinite supply of drugs? No!
I rat him out, and I bribe the judge into giving him 18 months instead of 6 (the amount of time it takes to heal as much as possible from meth addiction) and give him another chance at life.
Sure, detoxing from Meth is hell. It hurts. Meth replaces your ability to feel pleasure. But he will get better. He gets through the hell. Then I bribe someone into giving him a job and put him in a group home. I don't give up on him, even if he's hooked again and again, because I love him, and I'm rich enough to expend any amount of resources on him. If I love my kid, I don't stop till the day I die.
MacArthur's God throws his kid in the Big House to drop the soap every day. I'm not too dignified to take my kid's insults. I love him too much to give up on him, and justice will be served with each violation of the law the kid makes. But MacArthur's God's ego is infinite. His God pretends to humble himself as a man on earth while still holding his nose when pulling us out of the crack house of sin. MacArthur's God plays favorites and chooses which kid to give up on. You need to look at verses in both the context of the chapter and overall book and historical context and to place them in the right dispensation to get the meaning. And repentence is just a change of mind, if repentence means to turn from your sins than God sinned 38 times in the Old Testament alone and NOWHERE in the Bible says to repent of your sins to be saved and Jesus never said that either.
And I don't want the law gone, I just don't want people to think that they can be saved by the Law. And I don't preache lawlessness, sin is awful and has bad consequences, it's just that for the saved person Hell isn't one of them.

So yes, God does not have conditions we have to meet in order to receive his love and in that context his love is unconditional.

This is a Being that has intelligence and power beyond your limited scope...
if it is stated that HE abhors the wicked...where do you place yourself (in reference to authority) to say/teach others something different? Do you not know that you will be held accountable for this?
In the matter of forgiveness....meaning to pardon...if you were truly forgiven for your sins....why then do you still suffer the consequences?....this is not being pardoned.
If the wages of sin is death. ..and Jesus paid the price .. .why then do Christians still die?

MacArthur is a Calvinist. He only believes that Jesus died for some of us, unconditionally loving them, and unconditionally hates the rest of us. The condition is God's regeneration of our souls from the Original Sin that he had us born in, not our actions. When a Calvinist says we were "slaves to sin," he means "programmed to sin."
Whenever a Calvinist implies you can decide to approach God, he's straight-up lying. Their doctrine says that only those chosen to approach God do so, and can't do otherwise.
When a Calvinist says you "freely" do something, they mean you move "freely" like a wind-up toy. You can't steer yourself. God steers you to heaven or hell, and you roll onward with no control of your own mind or intentions.

Because the only one who wrote the law which attaches hell to another decision we make- is God, God is the one sending people to hell.
MacArthur believes the above, AND that the blood of the atonement is not actually offered to everyone. Calvinists believe that God rigidly chooses who will be saved, and thereby rigidly rejects the others, leaving them in the original sin he created them with in order to damn them. You can't call it a decision to go to hell if your will is bound and giving you no choice but to sin.
Calvin himself openly says that God arranged the fall of man (Institutes 3.23.7) and causes evil to happen.

Now John MacArthur is a hypercalvinist in salvation. I don’t agree with it at all. If God sent people to hell that would be unjust and God is just, Romans 7:12 “wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good”, “in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us”, if God sent us to hell then why are we not in hell right now? We deserve death hell and the grave, but Eph 2:4 “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us”. We choose hell ourselves, period. @@aaronschoolfield7376 "Where there is no law, there is no transgression." If we are children of wrath by nature, how can we be children of wrath by decision? That would mean that we decided to be evil before we were born that way.
If God doesn't send us to hell, who did Jesus tell us to fear, who can cast us into hell after destroying the body? We are not in hell right now, according to Augustinian theology, because the deadline of physical death hasn't been reached yet. For Augustine, we are born bad by nature and held guilty for what we cannot help. We embraced that in the Dark Ages when we forgot the Greek Language and only knew Latin, which Augustine wrote, while the Greek Church had many other theologians for consensus, not just Jerome and Augustine.

Pretty much as Sproul and MacArthur say here, the Bible NEVER says that God's love is unconditional. Sure, His love is steadfast and a sure foundation toward those who believe in Him, but even for believers, the Bible never says "unconditional." That's a modern psychology concept, loving someone regardless of what they do. Maybe family members or other people should love each other in a way that's similar to "unconditional", but again, people are going to offend each other and will need to apologize (repent of the offense) and the offended party will exercise forgiveness toward the offender (See Luke 17:3-4). But in reference to God, Bible knows the love of God in a way that is far greater than this term "unconditional."

If you guys had a problem with what these gentlemen said, then I think you folks misunderstood their explanations. Now although they didn't speak much on the love of God, they didn't diminish His love towards people. His dying on the cross experience was clearly a demonstration of His love, romans 5:8. However, you guys need to understand context. Don't simply pick and choose bible verses to try to make your point because then what your verse may be directing may loose its meaning. God loves the world, John 3:16. But understand that this verse also says "whoever believes in Jesus shall not perish." God loves the world, and in showing so He gave his only begotten Son, why? So we would believe in Him and be saved. But whoever doesn't believe in Him WILL PERISH. His wrath is on people who don't believe in Him, romans 1:18. The Bible clearly states here that His wrath is on the wicked people. So apart from Christ the only thing that remains in you is His wrath. People don't get saved because they realize they were on their way to heaven, they were on their way to hell, Matthew 25:46. Now although His wrath is on people, He's still patient with them wanting them to repent, 2 peter 3:9. But if we don't repent, we perish. And as they keep denying Him, they're His enemies, Romans 5:10. With Christ I have peace with God, romans 5:1. The only reason why I have peace with Him is because I'm in Christ. And because I'm in Christ I entered into this grace, Romans 5:2. And he basically treats us as if I'm His Son because I'm in Him. Now that I enter in Him I'm righteous, 2 Corinthians 5:21. But ONLY because I'm in Him. The reason I'm saved is because our atonement Jesus bore our sins on the cross and suffered "the wrath of God." He drank from the cup of God's wrath. And so my sins are atoned for because they were crucified with Him. What these men were trying to say is that people who typically say "God loves you unconditionally," usually make people think they don't have to die to sin, and that's wicked. The love of God should be explained with detail. God has killed people solely for their sins because He hated them, Hosea 9:15. Conclusion: If you're not in Christ, He's gracious and merciful and is offering you to believe in Christ today. If you're not interested, His wrath remains in you. And although you may live a good life, you won't be fulfilled and ultimately the road you're in will lead you to destruction.

While I recognize what you say has the potential to be true, at most its only what you believe. The bible is just as fallible as you and I are, so it is not a reliable authority on how things really are. I understand that the bible is the governing text of the Christian faith, so to Christians it is an absolute authority, but to everyone else who isn't Christian the bible is not definitive proof. Like any religious texts one must first have faith that the text is true, and faith is not the same as fact.
Many have just as much reason to believe God's love is unconditional. Be it from texts other than the bible, first-hand experiences of meeting God (yes, there are many who claim they have spoken/met God), and/or because the Holy Spirit has confirmed to them this truth. But like I said, these people have just as much potential to be true as anybody else, but like you, they can be wrong.
Sadly Christianity is one of many religions who claim that if people don't follow them (before a certain time) then they will be eternally damned. This is basically trying to scare people into believing in their religion, which we know is not a healthy way (or loving way) to base a religion off of. Which is why so many people have a hard time with certain versions of Christianity.
