So, you can place effects in, for example, the following order? Distortion/Drives from the MS3 - Amplifier Pre Amp - Time/Modulation effects from the MS3 + EQ + Noise Gate - Amplifier Power Amp? Hopefully.
@@MercutioUK2006 To your original question: Yes For example I have Guitar->MS3 input; then I have an in-built distortion set up before the 3 loops; I use loop2 (L2) to connect to the preamp (L2 Send ->Amp main input; Amp Effects Send ->L2 return); I then have the MS3's in built rotary speaker, delay, and reverb activated in the patch after the loops; Finally MS3 output->Amp Effects Return . Very versatile. I use L2 so L1 can be used for any pre-premp pedals, like an overdrive, and L3 can be used for any post preamp pedals (a Boss RV6 in my case)
It should mute the OUTPUT but does not mute the effects loop SENDs. I have the same problem since I use 4 cable method on Mesa Nomad. The workaround is to go to a channel with no effects send. After going back and forth with BOSS support for a week that’s what I came up with. And there’s no way to fix it with a software update because it’s how the tuner is wired into the pedal. Sigh...
So if I use loop 2 for my 4 cable method and put a pre amp pedal in one do I still connect my guitar into the Boss? Or does it go into the pre amp pedal?
Hey! How to connect a BOSS NS2 (noise gate) with 4 cable method? So i can separate in front pedals from modulation pedals. I’m having a hard time trying to figure this out..
Hi, can I put in this chain buffer? It will look like guitar - buffer - input. Send ms-3 - buffer- input (amp) Return ms-3 - send (amp) Output ms-3 - return (amp) I am using now buffer empress with 2 cables connection
if the channel switcher that came with the amp uses one cable to switch channels and also switch reverb on and off will the switcher in the ms3 still work to switch channels
Help! I’m trying to include an Eventide H9 also in 4 cable in conjunction with the Ms3 (in 4 cable as well). Using loop 3 for the start of the 4 cable extending in and out of the H9 and the rest as you described here in the video. When I turn on Loop 3 I lose my signal completely like a mute. Turn it off and it’s back. I’ve got the H9 set to pre/post. I’ve tried in/out 1 of the H9 into guitar input of the MS3 and in/out 2 of the H9 into loop 3 of the boss as well and getting the same thing. What am I doing wrong?
First, thanks a million. I've got the es5 version.i would like to use my pedals and create loops with them but can I also choose this external pedals(not boss effects) to be send to my midi loop amp?
i wanna be able to have the ms3 in manual mode where i can turn on and off the pedals in the loop by themselves and have all the switches on the ms3 be modulation/reverb. anyone have a idea how to do that?
Answer is "Yes, you can" - all MS-3 onboard effects and external loops can be used both before and after the preamp. It's just a smart commutator with built-in FX section.
tbh it's a little annoying that Boss don't have the four cable method standard in all their multi FX. I really want it but I'm going to struggle to afford this unit. Wish I could do it with a GT1 or ME80.
question as a novice does this mean the overdriven sounds goino into the front of the amp are being returned to the ms-3 and reamplified when it goes back to amp return or have i got this completely wrong
This is making my head hurt thinking about it :-) But.. I think it's like this: The guitar goes into the MS-3, then any effects you have on the MS-3 before (in this case) Loop 3 are added to your sound - so, compressors and drives are good examples, PLUS any pedals (like compressors and drive pedals) in Loop 1 and 2.. Then... All that goes into the front end of your amp - so like you plugged in your guitar and some drive pedals into the Input jack of the amp. Then... The amp's own drive and EQ work their magic on the sound before it gets whizzed back to the MS-3 Then... The MS-3 adds any effects you've put after Loop 3 - like reverbs and delays - and then sends the whole lot to the power amp section of the amp and then to the speaker. Phew, how's that? It sounds complicated but it stops the reverbs delays being mangled by the preamp of the amp... Hope that helps (and I hope that's correct too!) :-)
@@johnstudiob2481 Yeah, you only add what you decide to add. If you have no delays on in a patch, the signal will remain unaffected from the preamp... just louder :-)
HELP: Followed this but the delays sound like they are in the background or not as fully present as when using on a clean amp channel and the patch is before the MS3 assigned loop (loop 3). When I move the delay patch AFTER the loop in the signal chain the delay seems to loose a lot of its character.
I had a similar issue. Try turning the dry signal input of the effect all the way down and the effect level up to 100. Then balance the rest with the parallel blend knob. That worked for me.
Funnily enough, the 4cm only works for me when the MS3 loop is off. Anyone else seen the same? I use Blackstar HT head for recording, worth no speaker (stand by off) and the emulated speaker connected to the interface and into the computer
Good information, but this video could have done without the 30s comedy intro. It would be great if you could focus on being informative, not entertaining. Thanks!
The only video that answered my question. Losing one loop but still considering this product as an option for a cleaner set up. Thanks
Hey Boss/Roland! How about answering questions with these videos. Isn't that what we also call Product Support?
The only vídeo that ended my doubts! Thank you and congratulations!
Thanks for the advice, wonderful unit by the way !!
Is it possible to set three patches with delay spillover between them?
So, you can place effects in, for example, the following order? Distortion/Drives from the MS3 - Amplifier Pre Amp - Time/Modulation effects from the MS3 + EQ + Noise Gate - Amplifier Power Amp?

Dave Thompson following this would be ideal but I doubt it they should have added a effects return and send to the unit
@@angelvivarmusic5510 Aye, +1 on that

@@spharr thanks Sean, for a comprehensive answer :)
Can we use the distortion/od pedal emulations in front of the amp to boost the amp?
I think that's why he was using loop 3 for delay, so loop 1&2 would hit the front of the amp first.

You probably have a parallel effects loop in your amp. You’ll need a series effects loop to benefit from 4 cable method
GBSboy I’m using the Mesa Boogie JP2C. Had no issues running 4 cable method previously (with pedals)
Strings and Things sick amp!!! I have a mini rect 25. Maybe the loop needs a new tube? I’m not an expert by any means, just bored haha.

Will that send the right impedance to the amps input? Are all the inputs and outputs instrument level ?
I believe so as they are particularly meant for pedals, so that works just like putting a normal pedal to your amp or amp's effects loop
if you dont turn on the loop 3, you hear a clean signal?
You will go straight to the return and to the power amp, it might be loud

Are there 500 series fx in this?
thomas666 no, the 500 series effects are way better.
Disappointing…should be another send/return for this function, now you can only add 2 additional pedals.
