  • Welp, it sure is hard to walk and chew bubble gum or however that one goes. the same goes for talking about ford Tractor history and doing some yearly maintenance but what the heck. today we'll discuss the inception of the Ford Tractor, or "automobile plow", the legendary Ford/Ferguson handshake, Hank the Deuce, and the end of the Ford 8N. sure, probably a lot of this info is a little off but it's right in my head. I hope you enjoy this video!

Nice video. I also have Ford tractors. I have a 9N, 8N, 841, and an 8600, spanning over 40 years of innovation. My 841 is a 1958. Ford's contributions to tractor design are too numerous to list. I believe the Fordson’s frameless design, facilitated by bolting together three castings (engine, transmission, and differential/rear end), is an innovation only Ford could have accomplished. By the way, Mr. Ferguson’s first name was Harry.

When I went to go look at this 841, the seller thought it was a Golden Jubilee, he was just listing it for an elderly neighbor. Though the 800 series has more power I was actually searching for a 1954 just for its historical significance. I ended up buying this one, well, a front loader come on! Have you pulled a plow with that jubilee?

At 6 years old I was sitting on the fender of the 8N in my profile picture and the loader arm crushed my left foot. It was a Ferguson loader that lifted by the 3 point hitch. Dad traded it for the 801 Select O Speed. The next year a 881 Select O Speed. One of them I was raking hay at 10 years old. Hit the brake to turn sharp and the tire caught the rake tongue and sat the rake on top of me. The steering shaft caught it just right and no injuries. The 881 was still on the farm when the estate sold 6 years ago. Now retired to the rice fields of Thailand and mostly all you see are 6600 Fords everywhere.

Your stories are great to hear! The Ferguson loaders off the 3- point are interesting. I assume they're all trip buckets? You also bring up the scary truth of these old tractors....they are dangerous. A year rarely passes in our area without a serious injury and that's not including grain bin dangers. Thank you for sharing your stories sir!

The 801 is a good tractor - we had one for years and had a lot of low end torque!

I'm just glad it fit okay, it was pretty twisted up when I pulled it from the junkyard. Thanks for watching!
