      @@TheBrokenAshes damn I feel kind of sorry for you hahaha cause there was a lot of great rap before this mumble shit happened. 80's, 90's, and 2000's hip hop was some of the best hip hop ever. If you are interested I would begin with 80's consisting of mainly geto boys, rakim, ll cool j, krs one, big daddy kane, kool grap, slick rick, run dmc, beastie boyz, nwa, and public enemy. Then the 90's with 2pac, scarface, ice cube, biggie, nas, jayz, snoop dogg, dr dre, outkast, wutang clan, redman, mobb deep, a tribe called quest, gang starr, ugk, the roots, busta rhymes, etc. Really there were too many good rappers in the 90's and I may be forgetting some but those were the ones that stood out. Then the 2000's with Eminem, 50 cent, jadakiss, kanye, lil wayne, t.i., young jeezy, 36 mafia, clipse, ludacris, common, and nas and jayz as well. The 1st half of the 2010's also had a lot of great artists such as kendrick, j cole, drake, asap rocky, tyler the creator, schoolboy q, meek mill, chance the rapper, yg, and big krit. This mumble shit only started recently unfortunately with future and young thug being the main reasons. Sorry I know this is long haha.

      @ZoltanDeluxe my theory is that they need a strong beat because they've got no sense of rhythm themselves, which is why they don't like Walk on Water, because it's a bit harder to follow the rhythm when it comes from just the piano.
      (Though still totally possible.)

    This song made me realize why eminem has such a great relationship with Dre. They both share a perfectionist attitude, love for music, and respect toward those before them. They both also share that edgy humor and anti-conformist attitude.

    Eminem will always have respect from real lyricists. I've never understood why people said he "fell off" or the MMLP2 wasn't that great. I think most of the people who say these sort of things are only observing the song from a sonic sound point and not a lyricists standpoint. I don't think these people actually take a look at the rhyme schemes and analyze the lyrics, because if they did they would see a master lyricist at work. From a lyricists perspective It's some of his best work. The song "groundhog day" from the mmlp2 was like a rhyme scheme Bible. Eminem is a lyricist. He came in as a lyricist and he will go out as a lyricists. All the other facets of the song are secondary to the lyrical content if you are a rapper. At the end, of the day all Eminem truly cares about is the lyrics.

    • @LostInVegas
      @LostInVegas  7 років тому +84

      I agree with your point regarding his 'ability' as a lyricist (he's still sharp). EM has nothing else to prove. HOWEVER, if he has lost his 'ear' for making high quality innovative/creative music, then he should hang his jersey in the rafters

      Lyrically Em's fallen off. Not gonna dispute his ability to play with words but it's forced and uninspired at this point. I've heard it in the way he raps for years. The choppy, uneven flow and monotonous delivery is terrible

      Kristin Collins. This particular song went straight to #1 on iTunes. We can argue that Eminem has lost his ear for music. That's a valid point. But to say he doesn't sell is just flat out not true.

  • @avxntvra
    @avxntvra 7 років тому +174

    The thing about this song is Eminem is at the point of his career where he has nothing else to prove. What he wants to do now is just reach out to ppl. This song aint what we used to from Eminem. Many ppl prolly expected a song with a nasty beat and him calling ppl out but Eminem was vulnerable here, telling the truth of his mindset the past few years. It wasnt even like he was rapping he was talking in this song, a real message to tell ppl he aint god, he has these thoughts that eat at him. It aint his best song by a long shot but at this stage of his career it was necessary. Eminem has changed the way he raps.

    • @temmoerrana9324
      @temmoerrana9324 6 років тому +14

      So funny how true this is. Kamikaze was exactly that; an album with nasty beats and a crazy up beat flow and people getting called out left and right. Em isn't against criticism, i guess he tore his hear out in revival and people went way beyond criticism, to the point they were straight up trashing him instead of the album.

    • @Pyratic
      @Pyratic 7 років тому +1

      acee outlaw Rush is an incredible band. They have always been about writing their own music rather than what the record companies wanted them to. The record company gave them one last chance at an album. They could either conform and make a record the company wanted or go out in a blaze of glory and maintain their integrity. The went with the latter and penned the masterpiece: 2112. Which is a song about music and their situation. They're a 40 year old band and with all they've done, fans have come to name December 21st international Rush day.
      Rush is Canadian. In Canada, the dates are formally written as day-month-year as opposed to the states that write month-day-year. Hence, December 21st => 21-12.

    you guys should do some old Em'. I've been a die hard fan since he dropped the Slim Shady LP and treasuring his music ever since, even when he puts out shit that don't really shine or you personally don't care for as much you can still always find something in the song that still makes you think at times 'holy shit' lol.
    Just a few older songs that would be sweet to see u guys touch on:
    *Infinite*
    _his first albums title track, perfect sneak preview of his career, he had to come out swinging and prove himself to ever last as a white rapper and his Slim Shady persona served that purpose, as the years went by and he cemented himself so every track didn't have to be serial kill/diss track he was able to experiment more. Just with how much he was praised for the tone/style of Recovery, Infinite proves he was able to put out content like that but back before even his brake out LP_
    *Bully*
    _highly underrated diss track I don't see mentioned often, no matter how many top ten lists I've seen (lookin' at u WatchMojo lol). It always lands on his Nail in the Coffin track instead which is still great but still not in the same class as Bully is. I could go years in between listens and get that melody in my head and still be able to recall the song word for word, on the musical side it's got a catchy melody that he raps/sings too to keep u hypnotized and on the lyrics side he was throwing shots to not only Ja Rule/Benzino/Irv Gotti etc... but also Suge Knight in a round about but still obvious way._
    *Rock Bottom & Bad Meets Evil* off the Slim Shady LP for obvious reasons I'm sure u guys could elaborate on
    a few of his newer tracks on MMLP2
    *Bad Guy* _a must, i remember when I got this album I just sat down to listen through it with no distractions and the first track on it was probably my favorite (serves as a sequel to Stan but serves as a poetical way to relate that story to what he's been through over the last few years), when the beat switches up and he goes into that outro holy shit, I could listen to that song a million times and still get goose bumps throughout that part, those lyrics are just so deep/epic and with that theatrical/drama sounding beat underneath to emphasize what he's saying, perfect._
    *Brainless, Evil Twin, Groundhogs Day, Rap God & Wicked Ways* _could go into every track but this has gotten to long already lmao, pretty much some tracks I recommend every time I hear someone say they don't listen to Em' anymore cause he fell off, these tracks are highlights that stand out and could go up against his older classics and hold their ground, Groundhogs Day is a great example of him showing off while sounding a little nostalgic for the long time fans lol_
    alright I'll stop for now lmao sorry for the wall of text, hopefully its seen hahaha

    Why are people being so disrespectful towards Eminem because of this song, yeh his flow has changed.... so the fuck what it’s his music ffs and every album he changes his style. Just because he’s not rapping about taking drugs with a fast beat doesn’t mean he’s fallen off the throne. He’s just gotten more mature and sensitive with his lyrics is all

    I wonder if Beyoncé did this song with him, or he ask her specifically, because she is in the same boat of high expectations placed on her too. He is regarded as one of the best rappers of all time/our generation and she is regarded as one of the best singers. Everything she puts out is expected to go to the top of the charts as well. He could of had any female sing on this song with him. She probably has similar feelings as what’s said in his verses and can relate. What do you think?

    • @Marc004
      @Marc004 4 роки тому +1

      Beyoncé could really relate to this. Even tho Beyoncé said herself she doesn’t even care ab topping charts “even tho she does anyways” she only cares ab doing what she loves and that’s making music. But people have grown so over critical over the years expecting these celebrities to be perfect like they don’t have lives of their own. Beyoncé has 3 children and a husband, she can’t always live up to these standards they hold her to.

    FINALLY, an intelligent, informed, adult review of this incredible song, one of the best of his career in my opinion. I still believe that several tracks from Revival, this one and Believe in particular, are going to eventually have the times catch up with them, and they will be looked back on as the masterpieces they truly are, misunderstood and misjudged during their time. Many great, now considered God like, master artists did not have their work understood or fully appreciated in their own life time. Van Gogh died penniless. Unable to sell his pieces, he would just try to give them away, although some people wouldn't even take them. Now his pieces sell for hundreds of millions and are revered as priceless pieces of art, masterpieces. I do believe these things can happen with artists. Sometimes the times have to catch up with what they've created. Just hope Em is alive to see his masterpieces hung in the gallery where they belong.

      Rage Against The Machine isn’t rock, rap, or metal... they’re a combination of all 3. Rage Against The Machine (RATM) is credited with creating a new genre, Rap Metal. RATM writes about very real social, political, and economic injustices in the United States. That’s what makes them so unique. The best songs to review in my opinion is: Killing In the Name Of, Bulls on Parade, Sleep Now in The Fire, and People Of The Sun!

    With that deep and intense and of lyrics some flashy beat or overwhelming instruments would take from the meaning of the song and risk overshadowing it. Honestly if they thought no music at all on this song would have been accepted he might have done that. That’s how haunting his lyrics are.
    I can tell you this.. I was absolutely stunned after hearing this then seeing many peoples negative reactions. Yes there will always be some idiots that don’t understand what it means and some that are just gonna hate for he sake of it but I think the majority of the haters are younger and fans of today’s hip hop music (and I use “music” lightly as a lot of today’s rap is a stretch to consider that shit music. So it’s mostly fans of that mumble rap shit. We as a species really have already hit our peak and are now getting dumber and dumber with the short attention spans it seems all they care about is he beat and how good it will make them look blaring it in their car. Lyrics mean nothing to them (this liking rappers music that has none).
    When you’re the greatest at what you do you have a whole world full of people who don’t have a single unique and special thing on or in them so they are jealous and want them to fail. You can’t sit down and actually listen to Eminem’s music and come away thinking there has ever been a rapper on his level and that he isn’t the greatest of all time, you just can’t. Most of the people who don’t include him in the Greatest list are black. It’s 2019 and sadly some how there are many who use the fact that he’s white as a negative. That’s incredibly racist and close minded. Is rap mainly a black genre? Yes. Was it originally a black creation? Yes. Despite that is it a white guy who has taken it to another level and become the greatest ever ? You bet. I’m sorry but it’s true, no other rapper can even.remotely hang with him lyrically or flow wise. If some other black rappers don’t like that then step your damn game up and try and take his crown! You won’t be able to but you sure as hell should try if only to shut head haters up.
