- Planning a trip to Milford Sound? Watch this before you go!
Having recently visited Milford Sound we thought we would put together a list of 5 tips we think might help you when visiting. For example, did you know that you have to pay for parking? Even though you are in the middle of nowhere
If you are keen to see our adventure in Milford Sound the link to the video is below, we had a great day out cruising the sound, getting wet under huge waterfalls, and even had a pod of dolphins following our boat.

Wonderful and informative, the tips helped me plan my trip..thanks guys..much appreciated.
You are welcome! 🤗 enjoy Milford Sound. It’s so beautiful down there!
This is the first of your videos I watched and it has an absolutely great tip about parking at Milford Sound. The video was very helpful for our trip planning, it prompted me to subscribe! Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for watching, appreciate it! It’s a beauty part of New Zealand down there! Make sure you give yourself extra time for the drive too, there are a couple of nice spots to stop along the way including around the tunnel where you will probably see the kea 👍
Best tips I have ever head for Milford Sound, thanks a lot!
You’re welcome! Are you planning a visit?
Good tips. The rest of our friend group have gone off to do Milford and got Grab one vouchers, I definitely imparted my knowledge of the free carparking a 30 minute walk away, that walk is a really nice bush walk too.
Yeah thanks Shannon! There's only 12 mins from the free car park to the paid one so it didn't add much at all.
I wondered if you added the free parking to Google maps! Wish I had had a proper look before we went 😅
@@AdventuresWithRosy I cannot take the credit for that.
👍
Awesome tips guys! My family is headed there in six weeks and your video was by far the most helpful out of around 10 I have seen so far as in it was questions that I mainly would not have thought to ask but are vital knowledge in having a good trip there. Thank you! Love your down to earth, kind style!
Thanks Paul appreciate the feedback! Enjoy your time down there, it’s a beautiful part of the world even when it’s raining 😊 hope the holiday goes well!
Thanks again guys for another informative video. Wish I'd seen it before I went in to Milford for the first time 18 months ago - especially about the parking! We were on a schedule, but next time I will certainly be making a more leisurely trip. You're right about the rainfall Chelsea - it's the wettest place in the country. While the rest of us like to measure rain in mm or inches, locals in South Westland are proud to measure it in metres (sometimes more than 7 in a year). Looking forward to Doubtful Sound video - it's on my list for this year.
Amazing how much rainfall they get huh! At first we were worried when we saw all the black clouds when driving in but in hindsight I think that is just Milford sound haha, gotta have rain to see those fantastic waterfalls 😀
Great tips guys loved the video will defiantly take these on board when we are down there later in the year
Nice! Thanks for watching 😁
Thanks, that's really helpful info 😊
You’re welcome! Are you off to Milford soon? Enjoy 😊
@@AdventuresWithRosy I wish I was, but not this year 🙂
This was great
Thanks 😊 are you planning a visit!?
I almost didn't recognize the guy in the video. Lol You look different with your haircut. Good tips guys. You both work good together. Cruise looks awesome. Beautiful scenic views.
Haha yeh I asked them to cut it short so it lasts a while 😅 hope you guys had a nice Christmas & New Years?!
Love the NZ accent. Need wit wither gear.
Haha it took me a second to figure out what you were saying then 😅😅 I always forget how our accent sounds haha
Tip 6: If stopping at Homer Tunnel and you have roof vents, make sure they're closed. We had a bunch of people pointing at our roof to which a Kea was removing the wire mosquito gauze from the roof vent and ended up with a hole. 🤦🏻
Oh no!!! Pesky Keas 😢
Checks email to see what day we are booked (phew midweek peek season lol)
Thanks for the head ups about parking 😬
And just looked at the weather for our booking 🌧 at least the waterfalls will be good!
Great tips thank you
Nice! Enjoy the cruise 😁 we were stressing about the weather but i think it makes Milford pretty spectacular so don’t worry if rain is on the forecast 👍
Did Milford a few years ago, honestly can't remember if we had to pay for parking or not... but I guess there's is a lot of infrastructure that needs to be kept up. Anyway my philosophy is just pay up and enjoy... no grumbling allowed!
Haha yup! I can only imagine the cost for maintaining that road in and out of Milford! Plus there is free parking if you don’t mind the extra walk 😉
Hi Bronson and Chelsea.
You forgot one very important tip.... "INSECT REPELLENT" Milford is a sand fly heaven!!!!
Ah good point! We got eaten alive while waiting for the boat but was fine once we were on the boat 😊
Tip 6: Try to go when it is raining. It is absolutely stunning with all of the temporary waterfalls you'll see everywhere around you. Especially in the morning.
That’s a very good point! I reckon it’s better in the rain 👍
@@AdventuresWithRosy Remarkably so! I've been to a 117 countries yet I repeat a New Zealand trip every year starting in the Fjordlands because there's just nothing so wonderfully natural like it. Later this year, will be trip 7 back.
Thanks for the wonderful video. I am planning to go by end of june. What will be the weather like? Will that be too crowded?
June will be fine 👍 it’s such a great place to go even in bad weather
Thanks for the informative Vlog; I'm planning a trip too. 4 adults and 2 kids (4 & 7). As a mode of transport, would you recommend a Campervan or a 4WD? Remoteness/comfort/road traction etc.
Campervan will be fine, road is sealed but is a little windy in places 😊 take your time so you can stop off and enjoy yourself along the way, lots to see on the road
Nice video
Thanks Joe 👍
Did you mention the sandflies. They are brutal
Oh yeh that should be tip number 1! Take insect repellent 😅
Sandflies - I dosed on Vegemite for a week before going to Milford Sound in the hope that they didn't bite and I had less bites than anyone else in the car. Coincidence? Who knows.
You could be onto something! 😅 when I first read your comment I thought you rubbed Vegemite into your skin! That would keep the sandflies down for sure 😂
Hello! Is Bookme only for NZ citizens? Can foreigners use it?
Yup pretty sure everyone can use it 😁
How much time it takes to reach mildford by bus from queen town?
It’s a 3.5hr drive in a car so I’m guessing around 4 hr on the bus 👍 well worth it though!
@@AdventuresWithRosy thanks a lot for quick response. We will b travelling in dec .
Nice one! Enjoy your time there, it’s an incredible place 😊
their is a cafe
Ah good to know! There wasn’t one when we were down there but that was during lockdowns etc so maybe that’s why
