Justin Haley's win in this race made a lot of things happen that hadn't happened in a long time, including doing some things for the very first time ever:
-first ever Cup win by a driver named Justin
-first ever Cup win by a driver born in 1999
-with Alex Bowman last week at Chicagoland, first back-to-back first-time winners since 2007, with Casey Mears at Charlotte and Martin Truex, Jr. at Dover
-first part-time winner since 2013, with Brian Vickers at New Hampshire
-also since Brian Vickers, first driver ineligible for Cup points to win
-first under-21 winner since 2011, with Trevor Bayne in the Daytona 500
-first win in the Cup series for car #77 since 1959, with Joe Lee Johnson at Nashville
-first driver to win in their third start since 2001, with Kevin Harvick at Atlanta

I'm still confused on how Haley got the win... He was way behind the wreck when the caution came out while Byron and Johnson were 2nd and 3rd behind Kurt Busch before he pit. Byron should have won the race but scoring got screwy.

This one is for the fans sick of seeing Gibbs and Penske cars doing burnouts after a race. Their success, while impressive, does nothing for the sport. It only turns fans off.
How many fans were turned off when Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon were winning every week ? How many fans were lost when Jimmie Johnson won 4 straight championships? How many fans quit watching Nascar when Kevin Harvick won 4 straight races ? There has always been a couple of teams that figure it out before everyone else does . Gibbs and Penske both have multiple Nascar Champs driving their cars ..............they're supposed to be good .

Didn't watch the race and so I didn't know Junior was in the booth. I love his excitement and enthusiasm for what is happening on the track. His reactions sound more like a fan than a long time broadcaster and I think that's exactly what FOX needs.

They red flagged the race due to lightning. Drivers and fans start playing catch in lightning conditions. The rain starts then they call the race. This wasn't a rain race it was a lightning race.

I love this win. But I feel so bad for Kurt Busch. He's been my boy since he drove the #97 Sharpie car and even 19 years later he's still super competitive and does well. Driving the #1 for Chip Gnassi racing actually is suiting him very well. He is given a very fast car every week and he always shows muscle with it. The big wreck took all of my other drivers out of the race (Elliott, Bowman, Jones). I feared that it took Busch out too because he was way deep in the pack after his crash with Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. But when I saw the reply and saw at the front of the pack, going high, and that he was virtually the ONLY car to skate away from The Big One @ Daytona with no damage, I started to feel very happy, that he was in a very good position to win this race. And it was just truly unlucky that he pitted when he did. We all heard the story about what happened with the caution light and blah blah blah. Not Busch's fault, not NASCAR's, just a stupid situation. But looking back and seeing now that Kurt Busch would've won this race if he had stayed out just really really sucks. I couldn't explain the amount of sheer frustration I'd feel if that was ME in the driver's seat in that scenario. Especially because even if they DID go back to green flag racing, Kurt Busch would've probably won the race, not a whole lot of cars were still fast at that point. And even if they went green after the pit road hiccup, he still would've had a great shot to climb back through the pack for the same reason. I hope luck gets better for him. He hasn't lost his skill and talent and I really hope that 2019 is the season that he breaks out again.

@@brettlibby867 it usually rains in the afternoon and then stops. I've been to almost every July Daytona night race. I think it was rain delayed twice, but they still got the entire races in on Saturday night.
I know they wanted cars to race closer together, but dang... its like watching a slow moving traffic jam... less speed, more control but more accidents?
Weather delays killed me. Why can't they put on rain tires. F1, Indy, IMSA all race in the rain.
Uh those guys do road courses (ok indy has some ovals but mostly road courses) Nascar do mostly ovals and it just wouldn't work, the cars would aqua plane

Absolutely without question, the worst and most boring race I've ever watched. The only entertaining part was Junior calling the play by play. He's a natural in the booth.

Finished what race? Wait four more hours to complete 33 laps...woth 23 ppl the crowd and 127 watching at home...he won a cup race and didnt pit...hes in the books...awesome...beautiful and fun as a fan to see. If you disagree your part of the problem.

4:44 on was easily the best racing of the day and personally what ive witnessed in a LONG time. We needed that Wally Dallenbach soundbite "I CANT NOT BELIEVE THEY DID NOT WRECK" on standby at least 5 times.
With rain near by, you stay on the track even if you have 2 near flats . There's more rain races comming up, stay on the track!

For charity I would seriously suggest Nascar does a boxing tournament. I think first match up should be Bowyer vs Austin then second match Bowyer vs Newman then third match up king of the hill Bowyer vs everyone!
Stenhouse IMO was the most exciting to watch in this race with his moves through the field to rally after his spin. but good job by Justin Haley and his team to get a win.

Can't give how long it will last till track contract and car contracts are up in 2021 and that is the year the Gen 7 will be realeased but right now at least 5 more years before they try to fix it

They could have finished the race. How does stopping the race because of lightning make anyone safer? 🤔 Are they not still outside? Are they any safer standing around than driving on a dry track? Is the crowd safer when the cars park?
It's for crowd safety. A guy was killed at Pocono a few years ago. Its also for crew and official safety
