Likely the best man you can find on UA-cam reviewing south Korea so far Watched numbers of his contents and I approve this man and his channel gives you very clear truths and advices about korea so far btw I'm a native Korean born and raised, living pretty much all my life here. I could find radom people talking about Korea on UA-cam with ease. However, I have not quite found anyone doing it with good enough comprehension of our culture and also without any delusional or biased perspectives until I found this man while scrolling down radom shorts for a bit that was very random Most of the people reviewing Korea on UA-cam seem to have such a narrow experiences and perspectives even if they are living here, sometime, even if they are native themselves. They are usually stuck in a perspective of a certain group, such as of only early twenties party studens and etc, but this guy tells most of the things with a wide sight with deep thoughts including good reasons. So yea, great work keep up this way I'm not a native eng speaker so my sentences might confuse you, just hoping it would make sense.
thank you so much, this means a lot! I do my best to speak from a place of a realistic prospective, especially through my own personal experiences. I have had my ups and downs living here, but anywhere I would move to, it would be the same hahah I have found so much comfort and positivity living here in Korea, and I hope to share my experiences as authentically as possible for those who are curious about coming to Korea for themselves :-) thank you for your support!
I think you are great! I’m from Germany. My original name is Hanseatic David Stonebridge, moved from Manchester for some years and the then moved to Rhyl, north Wales. I’ve lost my German accent and picked up Mancunian dialect, the years later Moved to Rhyl, north wales. I can only remember so,em German and I miss German Coffee! Even if I have a German coffee. And a German cousin whom I speak to often. My German comes out of me some times after re learning it without realising it. Please explain it to me my good friend. Stuart. X
Oh and about the tattoo part, just for you Marlone since you are actually settling here, it is only cool between teens and early twenties, it actually is socially nearly banned outside of that certain group. It's because just like there are specific gang sign tattoos in other countries, tattoo itself is still a gang sign in Korea. Also our long old tradition has always banned it and it used to be a sin in out culture. Our very new generations also are aware of this but they are more like, whatever idc it looks cool anyways, but if you are willing to have certain type of jobs here, will be jobs would like you not to have any visible tattoos. Tattoos really do make people think of street gangs still in Korea and It won't easily go away as long as the small gangs keep doing that and the new generations are still new in our society. Even our media tells people that tattoo now is OK, but if you have a closer look on the people in a certain work fields, you can see literally no one has any tattoos on. Yea there is an actual gap between what people say and the actual reality so you might wanna check before get some tattoos if you want one day. It might take couple more generations to be totally ok I guess cz then the people in charges will be the present new generations
thank you for letting us know! yes, I have heard that having tattoos is still seen as a taboo in korea, specifically related to criminal activity and the ban on getting tattoos in korea. from my experience, I have seen quite a few people with varying tattoos in different places - coffee shops, restaurants, parks, saunas, etc. however, I do recognize that Korean society still does have a gap of acceptablility for things like this. I believe especially in working environments, if someone interviewed had visible tattoos, the employer is likely to think about that. in America, there is a similar sentiment but I could imagine Korea would be stricter. thank you for sharing this :-)
sounds like a great idea! I talked about it briefly in a different video, but I should definitely go more into depth about this topic. definitely something I have my own opinions on, especially through my years of living here I have plenty of stories hahah

Hi Marlon, this is my first time watching one of your videos. It's nice to find someone who's willing to answer questions and show a broader perspective on the culture. I am currently learning to speak Korean. I've got the alphabet and can read it but still learning meaning, context and how the culture affects the communication. I do have a question though maybe you can help me out so I don't offend people moving forward.... Is asking someone about their hobbies offensive? I started talking to this guy from Incheon and when I asked what his hobbies were, he super avoided the question. In fact he stopped talking to me for about a week. Then pretended he didn't see the question. When I asked again, he completely stopped talking to me. Like I offended him, but he didn't say this. Also, is it improper or rude for Koreans to ask questions? He answered every question I had, except the one above, but never asked me any in return. I apologize for the length of my post I just wanted you to have context. Thank you in advance for considering my questions.
Can you make a video on culture shock? I got into a study abroad program in Korea and i want to learn as much as i can to prepare myself for at unexpected culture shocks!
I like Korean-Koreans better than Korean-Americans. Is that weird? My anxiety has gone done 80% since I’ve been in Korea. I never realized how stressful the US is until I came here. Crazy. I do live in Las Vegas though, a very stressful town in so many ways.
I've been to South Korea for five years, and there are places where people don't speak English due to a dislike of foreigners. Cultural shock can be challenging. I've lived in Malaysia, where English is spoken, and it's diverse. Have you traveled to other Asian countries?
7:21 just a little remark from my Ukrainian perspective: even though the war is not active in South Korea at the moment, it can start anytime, and right now there's nothing really that can prevent it. So, imo, it's still better to be prepared, at least look for available shelters nearby (if you're already living there) and read about how to survive a nuclear explosion. I'm not being paranoid. There're chances people living in Korea will wake up one morning and see bombings through their windows like many Ukrainians did.
