I Did NOT Expect This! NEW Cobra ONE LENGTH Irons | Cobra Forged Tec Review 2022
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 чер 2022
- The exciting new Cobra Forged Tec irons have landed here at GolfMagic, only there is a slight twist! These golf clubs are Cobra ONE LENGTH irons, which is the same style that Bryson DeChambeau uses on Tour.
Now Cobra ONE LENGTH irons are great for someone like DeChambeau, who is very different to most PGA Tour and LIV Golf players in the way in which he swings the golf club. But ONE LENGTH irons can also prove a smart move for golf beginners and high handicap golfers, too. This is because you only have to use one iron setup for your golf swing as every iron is the same length (i.e. ONE LENGTH). That is why some golfers who have been playing golf for a long time initially struggle to adapt to the new concept of single-length irons as they have always swung the golf club a certain way.
GolfMagic Equipment Editor Alex Lodge takes the new Cobra Forged Tec irons out onto the course at Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate in Sussex to learn more about them, along with the pros and cons that ONE LENGTH irons can have for your game.
Make sure you watch until the end of the video as Alex gives his overall verdict on these new Cobra irons, and he also explains what else is in store for 2022.

I got some single length shafts from Kinetics for my single length cobra irons. This helps tremendously with the low iron ball launch. I've been using these single length irons for about 6-8 months now. I absolutely love them. My game has improved quite a bit. I don't think it's because I'm that much better, I think it's because I've removed a lot of variables from the game by using 1 length irons.
Great review, need to try these.
A very honest review. In my experience, slower swing speed players should think twice before buying a full set of single length irons. I started as a relatively new golfer at age 64 and I was looking for a quick improvement in my handicap. Single length irons sounded promising, so I picked up a cheap set of Cobra F7 SL irons with stiff shafts. It took about 2 months and I was seeing improvement, so I went for a fitting and bought a set of Cobra F9 SL 5-GW with regular flex steel shafts. I found that the F9 5 ( 22) and 6 ( 25) irons carried about the same distance i.e. they bunched up when there was not much roll . I also found controlling my shot shape varied with different clubs, unlike the F7 version. Eventually I sold the F9 irons to another local golfer (who loves them) and I bought a new set of graphite shafted SL irons from Milford Golf (SL-7 model) . I bought a set 6 iron ( 29 loft) to LW ( 60) and like them a lot.
I tried single length Hybrids as well, thinking the 20-30 degree loft section might work better than irons. While I love the F9 19 Hybrid SL for its versatility ( more of a 3 iron style flight), I lacked the swing speed to get the 22 and 25 degree F8 to work reliably. I sold them to a faster swing speed player and he loves them.
Since then after looking critically at my Arccos data, I have taken out my 6&7 SL-7 from my bag in winter and replaced them with iron -hybrids ( Tour Edge) for more consistent carry distances. As the presenter said the 8-wedge SL irons are really good. In my view, having the same swing/ ball position for all these approach shots gives the player a wide zone that he/she will feel confident that hitting the green or being near is relatively reliable. No longer do you need to try to get a favourite distance out.
Thanks for the effort! Very intresting! Only bad thing with looking your videos is that i want them all: P790, Forged Tec, Apexes, Srixon Zx5...you name it! And thats just the irons. Well gotta cool down abit.! Greetings from Finland..
Its my 1st set of irons.....feelin like Rickie now...great input...mahalo!!
Just ordered a set and looking forward to your long term test
I would be curious with the proper fit and a shaft like an AMT or LZ, where they have progressive weighting or cutting specifics for higher and lower launches/stiffness, if these could be a really great set of clubs. Now that they have the ball speed portion figured out, now with the right shaft you could get the dynamics correct.
Thank you for this review and your upcoming experience in One Length. I also started golf with OL and will propably upgrade to these ones.
Same. As my ball striking gets more consistent these are a logical move from my definitely more game improvement o.l. set (speedzone)
Love seeing people comment saying they got into the game with OL. Super interesting topic - Definitely think these would be a great upgrade for you! I'll let you know how i get on.
I've been playing the Forged Tec OL 2020 model since they came out. Tend to agree with your excellent review - really enjoy the longer length irons in the scoring clubs. If I were buying them today, I'd probably blend the variable and One length models: one length up to 7 iron and variable length in the longer irons.
It's strange - I completely agree! I'd do the exact same with the variable-length mix.
I have the stock steel KBS $tapers in my 2022 forged TEC one length. BUT ordered a 4iron with the KBS PGI graphite 85. Really makes a huge difference. Thinking of switching out the 5-7 with those shafts and keeping 8-GW steel. I find I am deadly accurate 8-GW, but get weird vibes with the 5-7 lol.
Well pretty cool to see you've made a real attempt with not only one day or just a few clubs. 6 months will be good time. I have the advantage I started with the one length in less then 6 months when I started. The difference in lie angle, offset and swing weight messes me up therefor I game the Pinhawk SL where everything is the same. Nice vid. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
You started with One Length? Wow! That must have been a fun introduction to the game. I do agree there are a lot of variables that can hinder you if they're not custom fitted. If your swing changes all the time as well, it would become quite difficult.
@@GolfmagicPlus using single length makes the game much easier. Learning merely 1 swing is always better. I have vids on my channel about it and the latest was a shootout between the Pinhawk SL and the Wishon EQ1-nx. Aside of those the maket leader is Cobra. I just wish they would produce a set from 5 (or 4) to LW where all the stats would be the same. Bounce may vary in the wedges.
Hope you will love the clubs. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Use to love the waterfall course at manningsheath. Played it a few times in junior comps when I was a kid.
Tough track isn't it! Been a member for 3 years now.
Yea really tough. Can I play it on a green fee or only allowed on the kingfisher?
Can you please review 22 forged tec irons. (Non one length versions)
Looking forward to the post 6 months video update on these irons! 💪🏻
It's coming, and I can't wait to show you!
I will keep an eye on your journey as an 8 myself trying to get down to 5 this year 👍
Best of luck! I feel like using these will either make me fall down to scratch or up to 15. We'll see!
I'd be wondering if you went with these and played them for so long and come time to buy new irons how easy would it be to go back To a traditional length set if you decided too.
Wish they made the X version in one length. For people with back problems the longer short irons in one length are a huge help.
Agreed - I was surprised by how easy they are to hit.
Think i can see why you struggled with your launches, spin and tapping. Im about to reshaft my set. I noticed you put some true temper DG 300s in these. Im using a similar shaft to you and i have similar swing speeds/distances to you. Did you put all the same shaft specs in your set? Eg. Did you install all 6i shafts or what did you use? Tip and butt trimming etc? Thanks.
these werent S300s, they were X100's which were still a bit too soft. These were custom built by Cobra.
Technology is just going to make these better and better. There are ways to increase clubhead speed outside of length and manufacturers are getting closer and closer.
We'll see...I will probably be buying a set..
Love it! Let me know how you get on if you do.
Do you also have one length AW, SW, LW? How is your club gapping from 150 yards to 100 yards?
I did not - I did an update video about this, that became a problem
Great video! Any update after 6 months?
Check out our latest video!
When will the six month review be uploaded. Looking forward to see it!
Next few days!
If you hit a 150 yd pw, how do you deal with shorter shots? Even if you had a gw it seems like you’d never get something that hits 100-120…
It's a struggle! I have a BIG gap from my GW? to my PW so between 130-150 I have to hit a lot of 80% shots, which isn't ideal.
Came here to see a review on one length... now I'm stuck looking at this swing and trying to figure out how it's at 100mph with a 7 iron.
Might be fast but it's never straight!
Did you do the 6 months with them? How'd it go?
Yep! Did a video about it. Check out our channel to see the results
I'm about 3 years in. Full on dedication to golf. I have always wanted my shorter clubs to have same loft but to be longer.
This is perfect! I also really like the shorter feel of a 4 iron. I think I'd have all my irons put to an 8 iron with mid size grip and prob more upright angle.
5"11 185 lbs, smaller sized hands at 5.9. I don't lose my plane with the grip changes. I never understood why people think you'll break that if you have too big of grips. I feel they give me a lot more control and I don't have to grip near as much to be comfortable/firm.
Great review man.
Thanks for your comment! These are perfect for you then - I'm still in the introductory phase to be honest, so it's taken a while to get used to. Really enjoying the shorter clubs though!
What kind of launch monitor is that and how much it cost
Full Swing! Around $5000
@@GolfmagicPlus the ms for the info liked and subscribed
🤞🏼🤞🏼
I dont want a pitching wedge to go 158yrds lol
How tall are you?
6'4
When I hear "thinner top line and less offset" but never any physics reasons why that makes them any better I kinda tune out from the rest of the review and feel its just someone parroting what all the other channels say. follow it up with why that's better
4:15 “you only need to change the ball position” - WRONG! Ball position stays the same for every single shot.
Good spot! See, takes a while to get used to haha!
Not necessarily. Yes it should be the same for every stock shot. But if you're hitting a low punch shot you probably wanna move the ball back a bit, same if you wanna hit a high shot
@@kourt2469 but that’s a different type of shot. In the video he mentions moving ball placement as you get up the longer irons which is wrong. Every single FULL shot should be in 7i position. I do hit chips and punch shots off the back foot though.
@@adamgrace644 I guess you missed the part where I said "yes it should be the same for every stock shot"
@@kourt2469 so you’re agreeing with me then 👍🏼
Harry Potter now reviews golf clubs.
If only I was a magician with my golf clubs
@@GolfmagicPlus you do very well indeed! There is a resemblance. 🏌🏻🏌🏻😀😀
Nice review ! Interested in the the results after 6 months 🏌🏿♂️
