I now have the F7 one length irons, definitely helping my game. Where I was hitting only 1-2 greens per round, now hitting 11-12 greens so a definite improvement.
We are all born differently. Wedges aside, pick your favourite iron that allows you swing most aggressively without losing accuracy and distance, and change all the longer irons to that length (leave the shorter irons alone). Do the same with your hybrid and fairway woods respectively. Biggest improvement I had in 20+ years of playing.
As always Robs input is appreciated, helps us mere mortals get a idea how equipment works for the everyday fellow. Thank you again, always a pleasure.
Great video as usual and great to see Rob back with you
I love watching a Rob P club review vlog; he is brilliant in my opinion.
Memo to club makers; use people like Rob to test your new gear AND use their results in your adverts as well. It would give us information we can really relate to
Cheers and thanks to you both
I have been gaming the cobra forged tec black one lengths for one month and my handicap has dropped from 9 to 6. Would never go back to variable length irons. I lost 5 yards carry on my 5 and 6 irons, but the consistent quality strikes compared with my previous AP1s is worth it, and my scoring average proves it. Plus the cobra connect feature is absolutely awesome. Just my experience...
Good review. Rob keep the great work with your swing
Hey Rick, when the day comes that Rob shanks one right into your boys please don't edit it out. Thanks
I think Robs test has been the best so far. the pros I've seen test these are still trying to swing a one length 4 iron like a standard 4 iron, and that won't work..Bryson has one swing as well as just one length and is a major factor here
Nice one Rob I've been looking at these since they came out and never had the confidence to try something that new against something I've always known. The distances compared with the normal set were so close I just might give them a go. Will certainly test them. Cheers
I love your channel, your the reason I hit my driver 270!!
interesting review- still think for these if i was to get them would prefer to have 7-4/5 one length and then 8-pw their normal lengths
That's the great thing about the new cobra single length and pro sets is you can mix them if you don't
want your short irons longer or your long irons shorter. They can easily be mixed to your preference.
I ordered the 4,5 and 6 in the one length version and the 7 through PW in the variable length (pro) version.
This can also be done with the cast versions.
Yes I think I would wish to keep my old wedges.
Rob, NICE WORK! Keep going!
This is the review I wanted to see exactly! Rob's witty comments are always entertaining. And Rick, your videos are my first stop on UA-cam. Hey Rob... only 8.5? You gave the G-max and Mizuno EZ Forged a 9? What's your favorite so far? I'm an 18 cap, probably need lessons more than clubs :)
Rick and Rob, please do a review of the F7 one length too please!! the non-forged version.
I've been looking forward to this!
I am going to go get fit for the Sterling One Length irons after the first of the year and have been playing for almost 40 years and have a 9 HC, I am anxious for next season !!! I think One length is a Great idea myself , no matter whether your a newbie or not in the game of golf !
I have the Sterling's and love them. no loss in distance when compared to my previous Callaway Apex. Prefer them over the Cobra's as the Sterlings use design and technology to properly gap the clubs with variation in swing weights. Hope you like yours.
Trey Farmigoni I am not a fan of Cobra , and I have played Wishon 575 mmc Forged blades the past 2 years and they are very nice , and Tom Wishon helped develop and makes the Sterlings and I have a great place to go get fit for them also !!
Need to get Rob to test the non-forged game improvement Cobras. Great review, thanks guys.
Consistency! The ball placement, for every club, is the same. I don't have to move it around in my stance. I don't have to stand closer, or farther away for each club. The backswing and downswing plane are the same for each club! Rick obviously has some kind of mental hangup on understanding this! Rob was hitting these clubs for the first time, and had not been playing with them for an extended period. I have a set of Sterling Irons, and I absolutely LOVE them. I had no "adjustment period" with these clubs as I understood the principle of one length irons, and that is why I bought them! I would advise everyone out there who are thinking about one length to give them a try. They do work, and will improve your game!!
I think as a casual golfer, with a high handicap myself. I'm rather intrigued by the concept of a one length shaft set up. I feel it could help with consistency in my swing. One ball position, one swing path. I would love to try this set of clubs out for a few months and see if they improve my consistency any.
Really enjoyed the video well done both
love the blue jays reference! GO JAYS!!
What a great great job Rick and Rob. The info for me as a good but not pro. Cheers
Started playing golf 5 months ago. Played one round with my father-in-laws clubs(variable length cobra SZ irons) got hooked, and bought in to the idea of one length irons; Cobra F7s.... I have a cool comparison too; my good friend/neighbor started the exact same day as I, (both never swinging a club until that day, both 24 years old) he bought variable length clubs and unfortunately for him my skills exceeded his highly within the first month. The main thing for him now is he's still trying to hit the ball going from let's say 5-9 (hits heavy or thin). But with me I can hit the ball every time with great confidence and just focus on yardage and club gapping. Definitely recommend anybody getting into the game to take this route! Now I'm just hoping they come out with nice one length tour style "blade" irons so I can get more control for shot shaping.
Talking about shot shaping and blade irons this early on in your golf wow , not slicing it would do me ,thanks for review thou
David Howard 4
Hey Rick I just got a set 2 weeks ago I love them I played last week and again this week dropped 9 shots . Also I might add I have never used forged irons before so loving it ATM so I will let u no how they going in a month so far so good
Another cracking video guys, welcome back Rob, any chance you can test the Cobra F6 irons.
BLUE JAYS Reference. These guys get better and better. Love it!
The Blue Jays! please! Go Yankees. Nice video Rick. Rob we like your style here in New York. If your a Man U supporter you've gotta like the Yankees. i have just seen these clubs in the shops here in NY. Maybe I will try them. Love you channel Rick.
nice vid guys. stick them in the bag rob and play rick in a vlog. would be interesting to c them on the course
agreed... give him 10 strokes Rick!
Feel you guys missed the point, one length is for consistent ball striking through the longer clubs. I want these clubs, but would still use my normal Woods and Wedges. Good vid guys, I will be giving these a try.
One of the better one length reviews
I know when I have hit a good iron with my MX20's and I use the nearly the same terminology, it's like slicing a warm knife through butter, smooth😉
Not long at all, great vid Rick, been after a more in depth and more average players opinion/findings on this idea!!!
Now, my only question is Cobra only(currently) are offering the 1length iron, funnily enough, in 1length, but Sterling are offering a complete custom fit i.e your shaft length is tailored to what ever you want so not just a 7i, then they adjust the head weight accordingly. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
great my mate Dobby back .....good lad
When I bought my new set was gunna get these wish I did but the sales guy talked me out of it. May look back into them but my forgetecs are really nice!
Hey Rick... i am a big fan of your reviews. This was a good review, but I think you missed something in this review. when I hit my irons, especially longer irons, my concern is with the accuracy of the balls I am hitting and consistency. I do care about the carrying distance but not so much as accuracy. With irons, you are trying to hit the ball on to the green, and if you pull it or push it, the balls goes into the bunker or into the hazard. It seemed to me that the amateur golfer in this video hit his own 5 iron over 190 yards at one point and pushed it yo the right. I think he was hitting more accurately and consistently with one length club... and that is probably the reason I am considering to buy these one length clubs. My HP is 8 and I am from Korea. I hope you can make another one of these videos and talk about accuracy, using an amateur golfer again. thanks.
Young Jae Lee did you buy the one length irons? I was fitted a couple years ago for the f7s and I’m still playing them to this day
@@sturrrdy sorry for the late reply... i actually bought f7 one length irons and they were great. This year, I upgraded to King forged tec one length irons, and they are even better. I won the club championship yesterday with them.
I recently purchased these 2degree up right. They are crazy straight and easy to hit.
Would love to see a video with JumboMax grips!
Another excellent video. Is it just me, or are both of you really up in distance and accuracy? Are you keeping track? If not, I suggest you take a look back to 1 year ago or so.
I have 2 questions about single length irons that may need some time and testing to consider. First, will the single length iron last, or will this be a short lived fad? Second, I'm curious to know if it will change or interrupt your chipping technique? Seems to me your swing can change when getting down to wedges.
Personally, I think I'd feel more confident with a longer wedge. I back off a bit when hitting my wedges and can be inconsistent.
Hey Rick, didn't adams or tommy armour come out with a single length set in the mid to late 90's? I seem to remember them falling flat as you mention here. I do like the concept.
thanks for this comparison was useful.... came by old trafford centre and you had moved on...
One could look at it this way: He has always played with different length clubs, but he hit one-length clubs just as well his first time using them. Potentially, he could become quite good with one-length clubs as he became more familiar with them.
rob u legend
Love the Blue Jays reference Rob!
It's my team mate. Followed them since an infant
Robert Potter all us Canadians say thanks for being a fan!
I've family from Scarborough, Toronto. For my sins, I'm a Maple Leaf's fan too lol
Respect for the bluejays comment.
Great job Dobby.
can u and rob review the new srixon 765 and 565
Hey Rick we would like to see you test out standard to one length shot consistency in like your 5 7 and GW. Cobra and GolfSpy showed some results that one length had a higher consistency striking the centre/sweet spot compared to standard length. We would love to see if you find the similar results or not. Thats been the biggest push here in Canada is that the one length will generate more consistency
I think the real purpose of the one length is control. Keeping the distances the same but to make your groupings smaller and closer to target.
I hit the Cobra one length irons last weekend. I liked them. I would love to spend some time playing them. I would like to see them compared to the Sterling irons by Tom Wishon.
Michael Ackerman wishon Sterling irons are much much better in my opinion. Plus they can be made at 8 iron length vs 6 iron.
The club is beautiful. One length appeals to me on full shots...I wonder if pitching, chipping and sand would be problematic. At the 4 or 5 iron I would move to hybrids. Would they be the same length?
how would you custom fit these irons specially if they needed extended?
I play standard length from 5-8 and one length from 9-GW + 55 at an 8i length and 63 lie. I'm 6'2" and play a single plane swing. For me the shorter length clubs don't work well with a single plane swing. I had Cobra custom make the 9-GW set 1 weak and adjusted the lie to 63 which is the same as my 8i and feels the most comfortable with a single plane swing.
Setting up with a single plane set up (moe norman style )and these will be magical to hit , looking forward to these being released
Do you think you could get a junior tester as well? Just a suggestion for the little ones like me out here😀
Noah Gilchrist Hmm.. thats actually a very good idea!👍🏻
Noah Gilchrist Robs about the same height as a 13 year old junior.....
david morrell true but he's also a lot stronger
Noah Gilchrist Umm idk about that. When I was 13 I was carrying my 7 iron ~160
Ju's Outdoors holy crap😂l im 13 and only carry mine about 145
I can see the one length working with 4-7 and then normal length 8-gw sort of a different type of combo set. 4 and 5 iron most golfers arent expecting to have them stop on the green but the shorter shaft is probably going to help with more consistant contact and direction. I know if I hit my normal 4 iron its probably the right result 5/10 times but I could see that getting up to 8-9/10 if this one length concept works as it should.
8:26 Freudian slip from the pro!
Its great to see rob back PS (Im tenth :O)
Looking at spin numbers for the 5-iron, I'd say that the One Length is the definite winner for Rob.
Just a question I have been thinking about for a few years...what if I just got them for 4-7. I am a 12 handicap and don't hit the lower clubs consistent enough. I am money with 7/LW. Would this be smart???
Rob said that both the one length 5 iron and GW gave him more confidence. With not much difference in the results, and golf being such a mental/psychological sport, I think that's a huge positive factor that mid/high/beginners should really consider.
Great review guys. they would probably take at the very least 6 months to get used to but what would happen after 4/5 years where an average golfer changes their clubs! if Cobra discontinued making them you would have to go back to regular length irons!
MyFoxworld yeah... that is EXACTLY what i'd be affraid of
Can you guys test the non forged version.
Bin playing this game for about 60 years, with the system in place now, however it makes a lot of sense for all your IRONS to be the same length, then we could all use the same swing, kinda like CLONEING the game.
I am a shorter golfer and would feel somewhat awkward hitting the lower irons with longer shafts. I think it would be a pretty decent idea for manufacturers who do single length clubs to make a set where wedges to 7 iron are of standard length and make 6 iron thru 3 iron same length as the 7. that way you can still use the same current stance and ball position with shorter irons. and also attack at a more descending strike. if that makes any sense
Can you please review the Srixon Z7 series irons?? No credible reviews on the tube
will you try to get your hands on a sterling one lenght set to compare ?
Bryson has stated in an interview the reason for doing the one length was when he sets up to the ball he didn't have to adjust for length for each individual iron. His set up is all the same thru the set, which to myself seems legit. He doesn't have to worry about distance being how he strikes the ball. I might have to experiment with some older sets of irons. But if i were to do it, i would take the 7. 8 & 9 and make them all 7 iron length. Take my PW, 48, 52, 56 @ 60 degree wedges and make them my pitching wedge length. We'll see.
Wedges are usually same length anyway DUDe!
what if you want to add a couple of additional wedges to set as most of us do.
Hey rock I love your videos. Keep up the good work. And do I hit the ball far if I hit it 165 with a 7 iron I’m also 10 years old
Years old
I think one length are great inventions like the hybrid. Basically you will be able to hit your mid and long irons sweetly if you couldnt before,.
Hi Rick,
What is the dots you got on you're drivers ?
Whould you rather nike engage wedges or mizuno T5 wedges ?
Rasmus Skillhammar the dots are for his high speed camera to pick up the club head for strike I believe. Part of HMT
Ok thank you :)
I was surprised to learn that both the one-length and the variables have the same progressive offsets !
I would have thought the one lengths would all be pretty straight, like a "player's" iron.
Now I really don't know what the right ball position recommendation should be!
excellent review rob. I am a high handicapper. I am not in golf for distance. I was looking at one length for control. I believe , with time it could be a better contolled iron because you are using one swing.
Come on Rick! I was actually falling asleep the second time seeing it and snapped right out of it when you were shouting "WAKE UP!" so rude... ;)
Now after all that we were expecting distances to be about the same, but in general what was the easier clubs to hit, one length or standard? what did Rob prefer?
Does the one length concept marry better with the single plane swing maybe?
Wood length could be all 3 or 4/5 wood. There would then only be two and distinct set ups; which makes sense. One set up for woods another for irons. As far as wedges are concerned, most people are fine with the current offering, the difference to my mind is so small that it doesn't matter, we're always gripping up and down wedge shafts depending on the shot.
Would be interesting to see if u Can make normal irons to one length- i mean its possible and cheap but i dont Know of the gapping tho
It was almost 30 years ago that Tommy Armour Golf came out with the "EQL" irons. They were all the length of their standard 6 iron. The irons most likely failed because they were looked at as a gimmick club with a sound principle. The tour pros paid no attention to them as they were strictly marketed as game improvement so the irons didn't benefit from the trickle down effect from tour use and validation. Without vehicles like the internet to get word out to the masses, they just faded away.
Hey Cobra, can you make a 3 wood in 7 iron length, that's the hardest club for me.
What about a mix between one-length hybrids, 5, 6, and 7 irons and then standard 8-W lengths.
only thoughts I had....would be a choked down knock down shot. how would that work/not work?
You do know someone who has played them for a while and we talked about them at Pike Fold i talked to rob about them as well.
Its butter. We know what you mean Rob. lol. Great video.
I think Rob said it when hitting the 5 iron single length. Confident. If you feel confident in your swing and your club on a more regular basis you play better. With his 5 iron regular length he wasn't always as confident. Sometimes he hit it better than others. Also like Rick said hitting the ball thin with a lower loft single length club might work out better than hitting fat or chunky with a regular length lower lofted club.
Wouldnt the clubs be made so the ball position is always the same. I e 7 iron
Yes, that's the idea - to have the same setup and swing for each club.
I really enjoy your videos. Are you really tall or is Rob a garden gnome? BTW, a major manufacturer had single length irons 20 years ago. Tommy Armour had the EQL line.
Still love your videos though Rick 😊
So if all clubs are the same length, would you position the ball to play each shot like a 7 iron?
Matt Kricheli yes
Yes and it greatly simplifies iron play.
It may just be the camera angle but it looks like Rob's stance is about 10-15 Degrees open, which will also make his shots to go to the left on the monitor.
Like the review, just show best and worst shots averages tell pretty much all if standard deviation is not to large. In essence like this concept.
Would be interesting to see if Rob gets consistent gapping. That's the real key.
Rob’s swing is looking good.
Wouldn't it be great to hit longer wedges out of the rough with a higher trajectory?
Wouldn't it be nice to chip with a longer wedge thus reducing back swing lenght?
Marcos Garces not for me I choke down for control, in light rough I have no problem getting the ball up, in thick rough again I'd want more control for solid contact
Plus one of the benefits of one length is consistent gapping
With the shorter clubs, Rob was more accurate, especially with the 5 iron
Very interesting, almost skipped this video, but couldn't pass up Rob being back. I am 6' 5" with very long arms so no interest in these, however, just love your vids and analysis.
Jaacob Bowden suggested the use of single length irons already a while ago. I am sure the idea is even older.
TOMMY ARMOUR? (am not @ sure about tommy) BUT...BOBBY JONES DEFINITELY PLAYED SINGLE LENGTH IRONS - THAT's GOING BACK A WAYS...
I am really struggling on whether or not to buy these clubs. If I do buy the Cobra one lengths and then later I need a new set I will have to buy the one length clubs again, meaning that if they have not brought out new clubs I would have to be a few club generations behind. I don't think I'll be buying these until either other manufacturers bring one length clubs out or Cobra make a whole range of one length clubs. For example, cheaper, expensive, high handicap, low handicap and treat them like normal clubs.
Rick, would you get fitted out for the one length irons as a shorter player would not have the same length 7 iron a tall guy?
Simon Avery yes
Simon Avery I'd say getting the lie would be more important than length but yes, if your over 6'1 and under 5'6, you should consider a longer or shorter shaft.
I just purchased one irons cobra set of irons. Played golf for twenty years with conventional clubs . Will let u know if it helps or not. My handicap is about 12 to 18, as I don’t play that often anymore. Also I’m 68 years old. Thanks for your review.
