    I am not a beginner, but I still wanted to see if you had anything to teach me (and you did). But 42 minutes? I played this at 1.75 speed and it was perfect for me. For anyone wanting to learn product photography this is worth the time. I’ve seen at least a dozen other videos on the same topic. While they all stress the overall goal of controlling light, everyone has something unique to teach you, including this gent. Watch as many as you can until you find methods that fit your needs and your budget.

    Great, informational video! If there is anything I might add: The phrase "F-stop" is "Focal length" over exposure stop. This is why they are written with the "/" as in F/2.8 or F/16. Full exposure stops are always 1/2 or 2x the exposure of the previous stop (i.e. F/1.4, F/2.0, F/2.8, F/4.0, F/5.6, etc..) When you think of it as a fraction (which it is) then it becomes easier to understand that F/2.8 lets in more light than F/4 because the latter is a smaller fraction. Using this fraction, we can deduce that a 200mm lens with an F/2.8 (Focal length divided by 2.8) would have an aperture opening of approximately 17.4mm while that same lens set at F/32 would only have an aperture of about 6.5mm. I hope that helps clear up the basis for the name. It doesn't help explain ounces though...

    I... I have no words to express how enthralling this video is. To retain an audience for 40+ minutes without bullshit is one of the hardest things to do, and the fun fact is that you are teaching. I know everything you told us through this video - I know about camera settings, painting with light, using flash, using a radio trigger, I know about manual settings of a camera and why it is important, what a softbox does, how to make a DYI softbox, everything - yet I watched the video in one go, and this is what a great teacher does. The experience was like being in an orchestral concerto, except this was an educational video on photography.
    As you mentioned, this video covers everything a photographer needs to "know", the rest is up to them (or us) to experiment, play with, and just have fun. My teacher once said, "It's not about what edits you do on your photos, it's always about what you capture inside that 35mm frame.", and you captured light.
    I sincerely thank you for making this video, for it is not only educational but also inspirational. You have covered a complex, hard to understand, topic in an extremely simple process. Thank you.

    Nice video, as a noob hearing "smaller aperture" gives me the idea if putting a lowr f stop, but really that's the opposite you higher the f stop. You cleared up a lot, the aperture controls how much light you want in and the wideness of a eye. Iso Is like sensitivity, you stare at the sun you might be sensitive etc. Shutter speed is the time, more time more light.
    The aperture also controls depth. A bigger hole (smaller f stop) will put things in focus in front but blur the back. Think of a eye in the middle of a box, it only sees what's in front first. As a smaller eye sees the whole picture

    • @LukeAyers
      @LukeAyers  Рік тому +1

      There is no difference between flash and continuous light except in the names (one is a momentary flash, the other is always on) controlling and bouncing them works exactly the same. Flash however has the benefit of being much brighter so you can use it to overpower natural light or other light sources and so appears more prominent in the photo

    • @ErichWeiler-y3z
      @ErichWeiler-y3z Рік тому

      @@LukeAyers I haven’t bounced cont lighting as I always have my studio lights directly on the subject but I’m starting to give it a try. You answered my next question when you said using flash is to overpower ambient lighting. But if I’m a studio where lighting can be controlled, should you always start with cont lighting, moving onto flash if you don’t get the results you want?
      You need to come to America. So many photographers would pay big bucks to go to a seminar or classes Luke Ayers would teach. Thanks man.

So many many other experts have the knowledge but rush the information out speaking way to fast for my 75 year old brain. Sincerely grateful for your time and motivation to create such an informative tutorial. I learned so much and really enjoy your style of teaching. It’s refreshing to see a video full of tips that wasn’t edited to death… it came across very authentic.
    The frustration of having to explain the whole process would result in an incomprehensible video filled with swear words if I was charged with the task. 😅
    I especially related to the parts where you spoke to yourself. (Talking to yourself is a sign of intelligence, so I read… please don’t fact check; just let me have this. 🙈🙉🙊)
    You are not only a great photographer; you’re also a gifted teacher. TY 😊
