THANK YOU for this! My online jewelry shop was heavily delayed because I had an extremely hard time trying to figure out how to take proper pics! You are a life saver.
"Ok. Got the light. Ok. Piece of paper. Then... WHAT? !" That last part was amazing. The bounced light changes it so much. If I had tried doing this, I would have... (actually I have) gone on Amazon, bought lights and a photo box, and wondered why my photo still only looked so-so. Thanks. Your tutorials are very good.
OMG - i have spent hours/days/months trying to figure out how to take pictures of the jewelry that i make. You just changed my life in 5 minutes. I seriously have so many pieces that i haven't been able to put up on my website because i couldn't get a good picture. I guess we know what i will be doing for the next year! Thank you soooo much!
I struggled and struggled with this using a light box and 3 light sources! Mind. Blown. I don’t have enough words to express my THANKS! I’m a new sub now! You explain and show everything with such simplicity and I’m learning so much from your videos. You have saved me from pulling my hair out! 😂
How TF isnt this viral yet ? one of the best videos ever ! Luke can you make a video on how to take pictures of action figures next , as they can be complex based on the articulation and poses that they can do. Try asking your mates around if they have any figures from hot toys , sideshow, etc.
I sell on eBay and have been trying to step up my game but have really struggled to understand lighting and how to manipulate it. Thank you so much for making a video that breaks it down to the most basic, easy to understand techniques. It makes learning a whole lot less intimidating. I feel so much more confident now.
OMG! My jaw DROPPED for REAL when you lifted the paper!!!! WHOA. Ok mind-blowing. I love how you teach. I've spent so much time and money over the years trying to figure out how to take better pics!
I am learning so much from you, thank you for taking the time to teach and share your ideas and hints... And you are doing this in a budget friendly way... Cheers to you! :)
Mind BLOWN!!! I can't tell you how long I've ran around my house trying to find the perfect lighting, props, everything... This video just changed my life!!! Lol but true... Thank you so very much!!! 😳😁😁😁
This is amazing man thank you! Can you give us all a tutorial on how you’d photograph a necklace? I have a nice stand for necklaces that is black, and I have a light ring and typically use my iPhone for all my photos. But between the light, the small necklace jewels, and the black bust I have the necklace on, it just doesn’t focus at all. I’d love your opinion. Thanks again!
This is absolutely amazing! Im so hyped i found your channel, i just love how well you explain these things :D Thank you so much! Please keep the photography videos coming :O
I started seeing this too with my expressions going like.... Starting with OK.... Hmmm.... So what.... Oh come on.... And Whaaao (that's by 4.20) !!! You are an inspiration always, encouraging me to THINK!!! Keep up the great work my friend. By the way, if I may ask, what is this red thread you are wearing on your left wrist? I too have a story with exactly similar thread so got intrigued!
I have been struggling all morning trying to take a good picture of my jewelry. I made a light box tried several angles and windows to shoot at, spent hours editing to come up dry. Very exited about this technique thank you so much!
Thank you for posting this. I sell Paparazzi jewelry and just being completely honest have kind of struggled with trying to find a way to take better pictures of the jewelry ( necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings , complete sets) i have available on what's called a wall drop or Album sell. This really helps me a lot and can't wait to try it ASAP. I wonder if this same concept would work with colored construction paper ( yellow, orange, etc..I'm trying to think of what colors i have lol) or if it has to be white? Does it have to be like construction paper or would printer paper work?
Hi there! You can use any background you want to lay the jewellery on, but the wall which you raise up to reflect the light should be white. Otherwise it will add a colour cast to your product. But it can be any white material you want. White paper or white card is easiest to work with.
Ever since the film days, many of us have mad respect for this type of photography. Why? Because it helps break some of the glass ceiling. But moreover, is because limitation gives birth to ingenuity! I always love showing people what you can do with just white paper and available light.
Amazing! I've spent countless hours trying to get just decent jewelry photos and stumbled across this video a few minutes ago. What a game changer! Thank you for sharing!
Wow! This tutorial on capturing stunning jewelry photos is incredibly straightforward and delivers exceptional results. I sincerely appreciate you generously sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you! So simple, yet profound. One more hack to add: You know those "hands-free" headphones that no one uses? Plug it into your iPhone and press the volume up button to take the photo. This is especially helpful when you are holding something with one hand. I put the volume end in my mouth and use my teeth to take the photo! In this case, you would not need the roll of tape, just hold the paper with your free hand! You can also hold the phone further away from you, since you don't have to press the button on the phone!
You are truly creating magic every time when I watch any of your videos,, you just prooving it through your video with the jaw-dropping final result 🌹 Awsome attitude... Keep it up
Wonderful thank you - Our family does one of a kind pieces and I have been playing with photo setups for the past year, I finally found a halfway decent set up with a $2 faux white marble tile from the hardware store however lighting was still an issue. I am definitely going to add the paper. Blessings!
Wow, amazing transformation. I’ve been spending way to much time trying to get the perfect picture by using editing apps etc. I love simplicity! You rock and you’re also very handsome. Thanks for helping me take smarter photos of my jewelry. Take care and be safe! Blessings!
Thank you, Luke Ayers, for sharing so generously the tricks of taking photos, they're explained in such details it's easy to understand and use. I'm planning to set up an online shop selling bracelets but had taken poorly lighted photos with my phone in the past, now I can try out your lessons taught here and start my business with more confidence! Thank you so much! Take care and be well :D
Whoaaaa! I dont know why i was a bit sceptical but the result literally had my jaw dropped... Thank you so much for the tutorial.. So grateful and cant wait to use it in my photography 😍

Very clever, but you can’t take pictures of Swarovski Jewelry without diffusing the light first. I will try your method of Jewelry photography though with diffused light.
