    Perhaps you know hoyas as Wax Plants - this is because of their waxy leaves & flowers.
    My 2 smaller hanging hoya plants, Hoya obovata & Hoya carnosa “Rubra”, were both in need of repotting. Not necessarily because they were outgrowing their pots but the mix they were growing in looked tired. This is another valid reason for repotting. Time for the special blend!

    Your plants look really good. I especially love your Hoya in the hanging pott.
    So my husband and I just bought a house, and I noticed there’s heating baseboards all around the room in the living room, except for the wall furthest away from the window. I’ve heard that in the winter you want to move hoyas closer to the windows with the most sunlight, but in my case in order to do that, they’d be a few feet above a heater.
    What do you recommend? I could push them a little bit away from the heaters and put a small humidifier next to them, or I could just keep them where there’s no baseboard but also further from windows with good bright light.
    Thanks for making your videos, I enjoy them 🙂

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  5 років тому

      You're welcome Krista, & thank you for watching. Yes, I point that in in the blog posts I do. You may have to move your houseplants in winter for more light. You don't want your plants in close proximity to a heating or cooling vent. I live in Tucson which is very dry - my hoyas do fine. Good bright light is best away from heaters. Nell

    When they are really tight bound roots do u get the dirt out and loosen them ?

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  5 років тому

      Yes Rochelle, you would gently loosen the root ball. Hoyas, because they're epiphytes, don't have an extensive root system. Nell

    Question...I see a lot of people recommend using orchid bark in their hoya potting mix for making the drainage factor faster, does the use of the charcoal you are using substitute that?? I use potting mix, succ mix, perlite and orchid bark but I'm questioning that now. Only hoya lost so far is the kerrii and she seems to be just a "itch".

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  5 років тому +1

      Hi - Both bark & charcoal up the drainage factor. I like to use bark (coco chips too) with hoyas because they grow on trees & the orchid bark mimics that. You mix sounds fine; it's similar to the one I use. Nell

    How can you tell if you have over watered your hoya or underwatered it? ... my hindu rope is shriveled but I water it once a week. And my krimson princess' leaves are not firm. And second question...how do I know when it's a light issue and not a watering issue. Have south western light with bright indirect to direct morning to afternoon light.
