What is CTS? Well, since achieving a "professional secretary" ranking in 9th grade when tested on a manual typewriter, I have now been typing for 55 years. I am a software engineer, and the poster child for CTS! It comes and goes. When it hurts, just stop working so hard. :-)

Had CTS in my right hand and it reached its peak intensity while I was a student pilot. Got to a point where I could not push the comms button on the yoke (with my thumb) in order to reply to air traffic control. Ultimately had very successful surgery but as a sleep apnea sufferer, I was one who had the wrist splint, chin strap, and CPAP all at once for a period.
My surgery was endoscopic under general anesthesia with an incision about 1/2". I now have zero scar and zero lingering effects 10+ years on.

I had bilateral CTS surgery when I was 26. Mine was due to my job requirements. I took a month off for each hand. The only lasting side effects are the sensitivity on the scars and hand strength has weakened. I'm very glad I did it though.

Thanks for bringing this up, docs! I had bi lateral carpal tunnel surgeries in 1995. Which moved on to bi lateral ulna nerve transportations.I tell you this because one of the four surgeries gave me RSD or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. At the age of 30. At almost 58 now, the suffering through that has been far, far greater than the original disorders. Although it has been many years I live a great life and you come to a point of acceptance and an ability to understand your life. All life is ups and downs, just like CRPS. My advice, if possible is if you can change the job that is causing the CT, do so. Sometimes that may change the course of your symptoms and maybe even your life. Love you guys All the time..🎉🎉🎉

I’m a casino dealer, and had it in the beginning of my career. Rest, and proper dealing techniques corrected it. Some dealers have to resort to surgery. The pain can be debilitating.

At one time I thought I was heading towards CTS. After working in an office for years, computer and calculator work would fatigue my wrists. But after a while, I changed the specific type of work and the pain stopped.
So many things have changed for office workers, ergonomic keyboard and mouse are just some of the things and of course, self awareness, the right position and resting the fatigued area. It always helps to beware of the problem and compensate for any stress or pain.
Plus videos like this that explain what it is, what to do and if surgical intervention will help.
You two continue to give us the best information and have incredible guests!👍

In January of this year I had Carpal tunnel release on my right hand. I had found a brace was too painful to wear at night. CT was severe in right hand and mild in left. There was no after care and the pain and distress was the worse I have experienced. There is zero chance I will let anyone do the left hand. Sorry, I understand there is a wide range of experiences post surgery. Some people heal easily.

When I was 30 years old my carpel tunnel was as you say "acute". The Chairman of the St Louis University Medical School Neurology said my case was the WORST he had ever seen. He decided to do this procedure rather than delegate, partly because he wanted to teach the surgical technique to a senior resident. Then, three months later, the Chairman did my surgery on the other hand. He used a T-cut on my upper palm and my symptoms have not returned in 35 years.
Now, I have arthritis and inflammation in my finger bones and hand knuckles. What do you suggest? Have any videos on hand bone arthritis?

I've had carpal tunnel twice (same hand/arm), more than 10 years apart. The first time (late 1990s), ortho sent me to a neurologist who recommended PT/splinting at night, and modifying work environment - instead of surgery. It improved within a few days and completely resolved in 4 weeks. It returned again in 2010 after I broke my radius at the wrist in 2 places. It developed after I had the cast removed, but again, resolved with PT/splinting and, thankfully, it has never returned. I always make sure that my work environment is ergonomically correct. I know people who have had surgery because they were unable to modify their environment.

This surgury only addresses part of the problem. If you are like me you have other repeatitive strain issues too. I'm not bad enough to want the surgury yet. Can you doctors please do a segment on diverticula’s disease, please? I suffer from it and I have different advice from different doctors. One doctor told me to stick to a high fibre diet which I usually do but another doctor told me to keep on a low residue diet which really limits fibre. I know from experience that when I get a flare up I have to go back to the low residue diet. My GP says I should stay on low residue diet all the time because I have advanced disease. I don’t know who to trust here. Please help.😊 I did do a search on your channel to see if you had done anything about this disease previously and I couldn’t find anything.

We can add to the list. If low residue works for you it may be worth continuing that. Best of luck

Something bad happened. I got unstable angina- with an "A". I was in great pain. I thought I should see a doctor. They gave me angioplasty and found an artery right up to the heart was 99% BLOCKED. I now have a stent the size of a .22 bullet jammed in there and I'm on blood thinners and double dose statins. No more pain but it's hard to breathe. Like the guy in the life of Brian" I'm alive, I'm alive"

Get a K-Laser! My CTS solved with K-Laser! Surgery will only making you addicted because once they cut your ligaments, you will develop scar tissue and it can trigger CTS again in few years and eventually you need surgery again.

I am currently dealing with this (both wrists). Mom and sister have both had the surgery and I was hoping to avoid it. I had the injections and they worked very well - complete relief from the numbness in both hands. I understand relief is probably temporary. Injections can be repeated if this is the case. However I now have increasing pain in my right wrist. Is this still CT or something else (arthritis?). How can this be determined?

Get evaluated by a neurologist and see if you can get a referral for physical therapy. I was able to avoid surgery and learned techniques/skills to prevent it from recurring.

I get carpal tunnel sometimes because I type a lot. The wrist braces help, and I always wear them when I sleep.
But here’s a question: My friend Pirate Pete gets carpal tunnel in his hook, which can impede his ability to say “Yar, Matey!” What kind of therapy should he pursue? 🤪
