    Hey Mish, nice to see you out in the fields finding some gold! btw was awesome to meet you at the Prospectors Expo XD (was some fangirling from Christine lol) - btw, our first 5 ounces was found with Equinox 800s on field 1 - they normally show a 13 dipping down to musket ball 8s range

      Thanks mate! It was such a blast meeting folks such as yourselves at the expo - I really didn't expect to get recognised quite so much. Nonetheless, I'd like to try it out on a future trip sometime as well. Glad your units were so successful!! Cheers :)

    I have had my D2 out at Clermont, but with the 11 inch coil I couldn’t get it to run stable.
    If I only had the D2 I could still find gold with it, but I have a great gold machine.
    Great to see you finding natural gold, another feather in your cap and doing it with a multi function machine is an achievement!
    Another great video.

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! Yes I imagine it’d be difficult to get an 11” DD coil stable in such terrain, to be honest I expected the same of the 9” but it ran whisper quiet when not on ironstone, lead or gold. Didn’t need to go grab my backup machine (equinox with the 6” coil). I hope to do it again sometime! Cheers mate.

  • @slayer8actual
    @slayer8actual 2 роки тому

    Hey, Mish!! In your Instagram when you posted the announcement for this adventure, I made a little joke about biting the gold when you made your first discovery. I didn't realize you actually do put it in your mouth, if not to bite it, but to wet it and make it shine. lol. That's terrific! You didn't yell "Eureka!" but that's fine, I'm just happy for you and your first piece of gold!
    As you probably know, the term Eureka is an ancient Greek word meaning "I have found it." It was also a word said to be used my gold miners in California in 1848 when they found gold in the hills around Sutter's Mill. What I didn't know but maybe you do, is that in 1854 it was also a word used by gold miners in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia during the Eureka Stockade. That's when gold miners revolted against the government's gold rush licensing fees and corrupt supervision in gold mines. It is often been referred to as the "birth of democracy" in Australia.
    Anyway, a little bit of gold mining history tying together two different gold rushes half a world away with just one word.
    Looking forward to your next adventure! Later, friend!

      I didn’t realise it was a term used over there, but was certainly aware of the significance in Australia! Thanks as always for sharing an interesting fact with everyone.
      And yep, the ol’ mouth rinse is the fastest way to reveal the shine of a small piece of gold like this. It wasn’t pleasant. 😂 Cheers!!

      It was brought along as a reliable backup and pulled out to test on a hand-buried nug before the cameras were rolling, but it got put away in the car once we realised the D2 actually gave a nicer and faster signal on the gold despite the larger coil. If I ever take the hubby prospecting we could comfortably take both of those machines. Cheers mate.

      Haha… actually, I’d forgotten to bring my own container so I may have stolen one of Josh’s. He recommended that container (a berocca soluble vitamin container) as it is made of aluminium and so easily found with a detector if one accidentally leaves it in the bush. Cheers mate 😁

    I've just got back from a prospecting trip in the Goldfields of WA. I took and tested the deus 2 on the different size nuggets I found with a GPZ7000 and it was ringing up different numbers for different sized nuggets. A little disappointed it wasn't a bit more accurate with the ID. I wouldn't recommend it as a sole detector for prospecting.

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the comparison feedback! I found that on the gold I swung it over, the numbers varied between 20’s-40’s - if I got a ‘00’ signal with occasional 70’s chirps it was typically either a hot rock or a heavily mineralised spot that could be broken apart. I ran the gold program, audio response increased to 4, reactivity dropped to 1 or so. I had the 800 with the 6” in the car as a backup if the comparisons hadn’t been stable enough. (Running software version 0.6 version 2 in the vid too if that helps)
      Keep me in the loop with your findings like this mate 😄 Cheers!

    • @robdarling6807
      @robdarling6807 2 роки тому

      @@DirtFishMish will do. The heavily mineralised soil of WA may play some part in this. I had gold reading from mid 60s to mid 20s depending on the size of the nuggets. The test nuggets were 2g or less. I just tried in the stock programs as I am not familiar enough with changing the settings. 🤙

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 роки тому +1

      @@robdarling6807 I find the size really does have an effect on the ID, even with the equinox a small (jewellery) gold piece might be a 2-10, a large gold ring maybe 16-17. The D2 has noted similar results on jewellery but obviously with higher ID numbers. Sinkers etc which are all made of the same lead - same thing. 😊
      Would love to have a go with one of the big gold machines one day - I struggle to interpret their signals at this stage! 😁

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 роки тому +1

      In the goldfields, the soil can be highly mineralised and give false signals to both detectors and pinpointers. My pinpointer would struggle to pick up a target this small as well 😊

    Do you like the Deus II better than the Equinox 800 ?? If so why ?

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 роки тому

      Hi there! For me personally, yes I prefer the Deus II. No one major reason but lots of little ones - more ergonomic, better target response and separation, and the waterproof rating (to 20M depth over the Equinox's 3M) was a major factor in my purchasing of the unit as I typically dive beyond what the Equinox is rated for. I still however believe that the Equinox will suit many detectorists and it is much simpler to 'grab and go' over the D2. Cheers!
