I have the pleasure of spending lots of time with Ed and his beautiful wife, Kate. Two of the finest people you will meet. He is 92, now and we were out metal detecting just 2 weeks ago in Mariposa County with more trips planned.

I'd give almost anything to join along some nugget hunting trips with Ed. I'm in Valley Springs, Calaveras County. I would even forfeit any gold found by me if that's what it would take. I do fairly well, I consistently find nuggets. But there is so much nuanced detail you only learn by being mentored by one of the greats, or making the same mistakes. And then, hopefully, you build on top of it. If that knowledge isn't passed on, who will iterate on it if you talk it home to the afterlife making the same mistakes Ed for sure made and I have and absolutely wil too again.
I love this I've been hooked on the motherlode since 2018 I drove out from Boston lived in a van for 3 years living off gold , I not only did it but grew and learned so much and I have continued to repeat my Pioneering west and have found large specimen gold 🎉

91 Years young!!! Absolutely amazing!!! Still out there prospecting! Bravo!!! Excellent story and video! Sorry I'm so late to the party my good brother! I have been so incredibly busy. @@goldnuggetsales I thought maybe you did! I had a major issue arise on the channel from me messin around with stuff that I had no experience with. Lost content, pics and comments, but I'm going to get it fixed. Right now the channel is pretty much blank. That's what I get for messin with it. Maybe it's a sign.🤣🤣Maybe it's tellin me, it's just not time yet. Between medical stuff, medical insurance, and everything else that comes with life after two heart attacks, I barely have time for anything else. I get in front of the puter for some social time and entertainment only by chance. Hell, I have five bags of dirt waiting on me! I used to manage an Airbnb and lived near Crystal Falls by Sonora and Twain Harte and i used to find lil nuggets all the time in the creeks up there and near roads where they cut near tree roots if there is quartz and black sand ... theres gold

Great video Mike. Wish I'd had the chance to meet Ed when my folks lived near the Harvard mine. Great idea to use a second detector with discrimination to keep from digging iron targets!

hello. so is the gold in this state combined with the quartz more valuable than the actual gold itself as a decorative piece or do they eventually process it out?
Hi Steve, gold found like this carries a premium as most gold is microscopic dust and only about 2% is found in nuggets or gold and quartz. A piece like this would fetch 1.3 to 1.5 spot price.

It's like every video you make, you one up yourself. I mean, this is the best show on TV. It feeds me, and I didn't even know I was that hungry. But I will never be full, but very satisfied. You can still take gold out of the rivers in California. You just can’t dredge them. There are still rivers like the American river and the Yuba that you can take gold out of legally. But you can pan and you can use a very small sluce. None of it can be mechanical, but you can certainly use a sluce and pan for gold in the rivers in California. As well as metal detect.
As someone from this area I've always wanted to look for gold in this area but whats the point if your a law abiding citizen like myself if its indeed "illegal"(?) to prospect California's rivers in the "Mother Lode" area as talked about in this video?
BLM land that is not claimed is fair game - just gotta find those rare areas.
I think I bought a Gold Bug from Ed 30 years ago if he's from Turlock.....

I had a really hard time hearing them talk with the music so loud. That’s kind of annoying.
Still a lot of gold in California, but to file a claim along with the environmental impact statement can be a nightmare.
I believe it, California is tough on miners now.
Fun to watch but not very informative at all.
Nothing worse than etched gold Dipped in acid to dissolve the quartz So unnatural and he did it to all of his gold specimens. Joke
