  • Taking my annual hike up Lovers Leap to prepare for backpacking season and I really need it. This is my first journey into the Caldor Fire burn zone.

Always amazed at how quickly the new growth comes along after a burn and can see things not seen in years and years. Fantastic views! Take good care out there. Bruce and Otis

Part of the reason a burned over area will green up so much and so quickly is because the fire retardant used in aerial drops is fertilizer (ammonium phosphate). If you get some rain after retardant, it's like Miracle Grow.

I winter in Tahoe and went down the hill a few times. On the way back up in April, the southern views from the freeway got cut of dead trees and the vistas were distracting. Sierra at Tahoe still looks not ready for Winter 2023
